Bedroom Tour: Blessings In Bloom

September 21, 2015~ Decorating

“This God—His way is perfect; the Word of the Lord proves true;
He is a shield for all those who take refuge in Him”
Psalm 18:30

Have you ever been in a situation where you felt like the Lord was just telling you to “wait”?  Waiting on the Lord can be hard, because our time table is not always God’s.  But we can look back and see that during those waiting times, He was working everything for our good and certainly for His glory.  Without fail, God draws near and invites us to rest in Him!  Katy (our chosen daughter) had been living in a one bedroom loft apartment for about a year and a half when she started praying that God would open up doors for her to move.  She loves everything about the outdoors and although her small apartment had a great view overlooking our city, Katy felt the itch to find somewhere that would allow a little garden space and give her more of a “home” feel.  For over a year, she would visit apartments or rental houses, and just know they weren’t the places God had for her.  So she waited.  And she prayed.  And she kept an open hand.  This past July, God placed Katy in the most adorable house- and it just so happens to be perfect for her!  She has gone from one small bedroom to three-and you can only imagine the fun we are having decorating!

We started in her bedroom and are so excited to share it with you all today!  Come along as we count our blessings!

We decorated the bedroom on a very limited budget…using most of the furnishings from her loft apartment!

I found the duvet and shams last spring on Pottery Barn’s website.  The mirror was brought from the apartment and serves as a headboard! The lamp was recently purchased at Hobby Lobby for 50% off.  Katy had the idea to use a straw hat with a scarf for the wall.  Great idea and very inexpensive!  I love the added texture of the hat and the pop of color on the neutral walls!  Home really is where she hangs her hat!

The gray Euro shams, the yellow/white striped pillows, and the coral pillow were all purchased from TJ Maxx at great prices!

The small table that Katy painted is from her grandmother.  We added books and accessories that she had on hand for a sweet vignette! The white gauzy curtains are from TJ Maxx!

The white cross is a gift from one of the girls in her small group!  I love Hershey’s Kisses and maybe I enjoyed a few while taking these photos!  Hopefully it will go unnoticed!

Katy planted the zinnias and their happy faces are perfect for the bedroom!

Any guesses as to what the “K” is for?!

The chair was a great find at a thrift store and it was brand new!  A colorful pillow and a bright orange throw make for a comfy corner!

All you thrifters will probably be envious of this find…Katy bought the floor lamp at a yard sale for $3!!!  She used chalk paint to give it a vintage look and we found a burlap shade at Hobby Lobby for 50% off!

The pillow is a gift from a friend and it reminds us that we all have so very much to be thankful for and should be counting our blessings!

Snickerdandy coffee and an inspirational book are great ways to start a morning!

The black chest is a piece of furniture that Katy had!  Friends gave her a sweet housewarming party a few weeks ago…so many friends made beautiful and thoughtful gifts.  One of these is the “it is well with my soul” plaque!  I added a platter from a thrift store, a handmade cross, and a blue pumpkin!

We hope you have been inspired and encouraged to decorate, even if your budget seems a little tight!  Shop your house, visit the local thrift store, and maybe you could even take up a new found hobby of chalk painting!

We are just getting started in Katy’s house!  We will be taking you along as we make her house a home!

What a lovely room! Everything is so pretty, and even better that you two worked together to prepare her new space. The colors are gorgeous, the thrift and clearance finds are perfect, and the hat idea is, too. My daughter and I had great fun prepping our kids’ apartment for school. We loaded up on bedding and pillows at TJM, too. Aren’t they the best? Thanks for sharing your daughter’s room. I hope we get to see more in the future. Looks like she’ll be very happy in her new space of answered prayer. Our sweet Lord loves us so perfectly!

    Dear Pam,

There is just something about your blog and how your sweet daughter waited upon the Lord for HIS amazing provision. As I looked at each picture I could see the hand of God; so much it brought tears to my eyes.

I have my own amazing testimony of God’s provision for a beach cottage in one of the most exclusive areas in the Central Coast. The beach cottage is one house from the beach and a price that was unbelievable and one I could afford. When I was looking, folks would ask me my budget and where I wanted to live and when I told them, their eyebrows would raise and say, well, that area is quite pricey, I just don’t know if you’ll find a place like that. But my wonderful Lord said He would give us the desires of our heart and He went way beyond anything I could have ever dreamed about. I’m so grateful and I’m so grateful for your daughter.

The room is beautiful. What a mighty God we serve.

    Blessings, Paula Bradshaw

Paula, I love your beautiful testimony and thanks for sharing it with me! The Lord is faithful and He can be trusted with every small detail of our lives. What a blessing to share His provision and answered prayer. I am so glad we have had the privilege to meet each other and my prayer is that God would touch the heart of each reader. Would you join me in that prayer? I praise Him for giving you the desires of your heart! Blessings and hugs, sweet friend!

Sarah Bernhardt was relocated last year and gave us some gorgeous blooms in spite of being moved. Several Spirea are in bloom as well as Clematis Jackmanii! What is blooming in your garden?

Mother had the gift of hospitality and shared it with everyone. Karl Rosenfield peonies from my garden fill a treasured keepsake pitcher handed down from my grandmother! A beautiful floral April Cornell ‘Lillianna’ tablecloth and Famille Rose salad plates elevate the status of the old picnic table next to our woodlands. I have collected bejeweled enamel trinket boxes for many years and shared a few on the table for whimsy and fun. For memories of my Mother, click the link in my profile.

With glorious weather, the table next to our woodl With glorious weather, the table next to our woodlands was perfect for teatime! It is Tea on Tuesdays with blogging friends Mary and Kitty. The table is enhanced by views toward the mountain, woodlands, and the large Snowball Viburnum. The verdant rye grass appears as a green carpet that has been spread for Easter! Vintage Fitz and Floyd ‘Herb Garden’ teapots, sugar and creamer, and oval tray are suited for springtime with their embossed bows, vegetables, and words. A bouquet of Kwanzan Cherry blossoms add more spring color to the setting.

I am serving a simple teatime with Earl Grey tea, savory egg salad filled phyllo cups, and sweet vanilla cupcakes with cream cheese icing, and macarons! A favorite cottage rose tablecloth and Essential napkins are by April Cornell.

We are most blessed to celebrate the resurrection of Christ, being the source of new life, yet new life that is eternal. The beauty of this spring will again give way to another autumn in a few months, but the significance of His empty tomb will never change! Happy Thursday! I love setting a table next to our Happy Thursday! I love setting a table next to our woodlands and this is the first one of the season, an Easter/Spring table! I love all the sweet bunny decorations, but Easter is so much more. We celebrate Easter because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. His bodily resurrection enables all those who choose to follow Him to have assured victory over our greatest enemy…death!

I look forward each year when some of my favorite blooms display their amazing beauty in our garden. Snowball viburnum in its full glory with large creamy white blooms. Climbing Lady Banks Rose is covered in hundreds of miniature yellow blooms cascading to the ground. An old-fashioned Bridal Wreath Spirea with its branches arching to the ground in a fountain-like growth habit is loaded with showy double white flowers in clusters of three to six that resemble a bride’s wreath. I still claim the Kwanzan Cherry tree even though it is now on our son’s property. Its ruffled pink double pink blossoms are some of my favorite blooms. All four of these blooms make up an arrangement with a few tulips from the grocery store.

A fluffle of moss bunnies hopped up to the picnic table. A ‘Charming’ tablecloth with Mary Lake-Thompson napkins and Williams Sonoma enchanting ‘Famille Rose’ bunny plates!

I often shared my sweet Daddy and his stories on m I often shared my sweet Daddy and his stories on my blog. My precious Daddy passed away peacefully on March 26th at the age of 94, surrounded by his beloved family! He was born during the depths of the Great Depression. That may have been part of the reason he was always content and loved the simple things.

“A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold.” Proverbs 22:1

After high school graduation he signed to play professional baseball with the Cleveland Indians Organization. His baseball career was cut short when he was drafted in the army. He was seriously wounded in the Korean War and was awarded a Purple Heart and two bronze stars. Upon returning home, he married my beautiful Mother and they shared 54 wonderful years together before she passed away suddenly.

My brother and I grew up in a Christian home, bathed in love, calm, security, and contentment, under the care of the two finest parents anyone could have. Daddy was known as Pawpaw to his three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

My heart is broken, he was the best Daddy a girl could have. I know he is present with the Lord and I rejoice in that promise, knowing too, that my Mother is also in the eternal presence of our Heavenly Father.

My inspiration for teatime is the beautiful linens from @april.cornell With the celebration of their 50th anniversary, many Heritage Prints from the archives have returned. Happy first Monday of February! After so many cold Happy first Monday of February! After so many cold days, we are experiencing a tease of spring with a 73 degree day that is forecast. After the gray and cloudy days, I needed a dose of color and decided to set a colorful citrus themed brunch! Using a bird gold and pewter stand, I mixed a citrus medley of lemons, oranges, and limes with pink and white carnations as the centerpiece. The table is highlighted with blue and white dishware. Fresh squeezed orange juice, French-pressed coffee and sweet treats of lemon poppyseed muffins, lemon cake with lemon icing, and lemon pastries are perfect for a small brunch. A faux lemon topiary belonged to my beloved Mother and seemed a perfect addition to a citrus-themed table! The magic of dancing sunlight enhances the table that is dressed with a warm tartan plaid throw repurposed as a tablecloth! ‘Winter Fauna’ bird salad plates from Pottery Barn (many years ago and now discontinued) remind me of the birds I watch from my kitchen window during the winter season.
