Delighting In Blue And White…And A Winner!

“And this commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭4:21

Who does not like the clean and crisp look of blue and white?  It simply looks beautiful with any other color…yellow, red, green, orange, purple, you get the idea!  I love to incorporate blue and white into vignettes and tablescapes in my home.  I thought it would be fun to look at this magical combination as I share a few photos from my house.  Then we will take a tour of an entire home designed in this always perfect color combination!

One of my all-time favorite design books is “A Passion for Blue and White” by style-setter, Carolyne Roehm.  She takes us on a private tour of her dazzling homes that she has decorated in blue and white…a must have book for any fan of this color combination!

A blue and white wallpaper for my iPhone!

Spotlighting some of my blue/white collectibles in a foyer vignette!

One of many blue and white tablescapes that I have featured.  I love how crisp the blue and white looks with the colors of Christmas!

Blue and white is even Thanksgiving appropriate!

Blue and white pairs beautifully with the green outdoors!

The colors of autumn work perfectly with blue and white!

If you are a regular blog follower, you know that I love color.  Our bedroom is swathed in peacock blue, but I added white Euros with blue embroidery and Spode Blue Room plates on the wall.
“Whenever you place any color next to blue and white, something magical occurs:  all of a sudden, the focus sharpens and the visual field has clarity and power.”

Adding a few touches of blue and white to my antique French coffee table!

via Traditional Home

The center-hall foyer boasts a bronze antique chandelier and an 1800’s table with antique English benches.  Notice as we tour this home with its antiques and beautiful furnishings, the blue and white palette keeps it clean and fresh without being stuffy!

In the living room, a beautiful blue and white fabric dresses the window!

French bergeres are pulled up next to a lovely fireplace mantel. The gold mirror and crystal sconces add formality to the French blue grass cloth!

Rich wood furnishings, an opulent chandelier, and gold leaf ceiling make for a dramatic dining room.  But, the indigo sisal wall covering and skirted chairs lend a casual feel to an otherwise formal space!

An antique server shows off more blue and white flanked by beautiful knife boxes!

A collection of blue/white vases fill a wooden display cabinet!

The kitchen with its crisp white walls and cabinetry would be the delight of any chef!

The breakfast room has a casual feel with RH chairs and another fabulous chandelier – this one is nickel and leather!  I love the layering of the rugs!

A hallway that leads into the kitchen is an attention grabber with an entire wall of blue/white plates.  Can you imagine hanging all of these and getting them straight!?

A comfy family room has a pop of red from the rug!

The husband’s office has a sailing theme!

Many of the upholstered pieces have unique designs!  Antique pond yachts on the wood paneled wall!

A writing table and stools stand in front of the master bedroom fireplace!

I have always loved the juxtaposition of casual and elegant in a room.  The master bedroom is the perfect example – an antique Baccarat crystal chandelier with textured wall covering and sisal rug!

The master bath is a study in pure elegance…marble, crystal, and gold gilding!

Do you like a blue and white palette for a room, or just adding a touch of it in accessories?

I love blue and white, but I only have one room devoted to it. In most other rooms, I have a touch of something blue and white, like a planter or vase. Thanks for this load of inspiration! In all the pictures, the most striking things are the white upholstery pieces with that wide navy (or navy print) stripe. I love that look! Someone sure is blessed to receive the book. :-)

  5. I LOVE blue and white and have had it in most of my rooms for years. I am a big fan of Carolyn Roehm and drool over her rooms and gardens.

About the plate wall, I wouldn’t have even tried to get them all straight. If you’ve ever noticed some of the photos in my Maine dining room, you’ve seen how I resolved the problem.

    • Everyday Living says:

I love plates on a wall and I have had quite a collection before, but never an entire wall! I like how you resolved it, Linda!

  10. Linda says:

    Liebe Pam,

Mein Pozellan ist u. a.
