Trees are going up and the halls are being decked…that can only mean one thing…it is, indeed, the most wonderful time of the year! Whether you are one of our daily readers or finding yourself here for the very first time, we welcome you to our Everyday Living! It won’t take very long before you see that I enjoy sharing a wide variety of topics…from gardening to decorating to travel, and always a new tablescape every week!
Christmas calls for family gatherings and dinner parties…the perfect time to set a beautiful table! It can be as elaborate or as simple as you want, but what will stick with your guests is the love they feel when they put their feet under your table. Today, we will take a look at a table I put together using what was readily available from right here in my garden and yard! At first glance it is a fun table, but I think you will agree that when the lights go down, it brings about a rustic ambiance that ushers in the season!
A special thank you to Chloe from Celebrate & Decorate for organizing this fabulous party! Be sure to scroll all the way to the bottom to see the full line-up. I hope you will take the time to visit them all this week and get ideas for your Christmas tables! We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and send Plaid Tidings to you and yours!
A white linen tablecloth offers a background for all the festive colors and patterns of Christmas!
As you can see, I’m all about the plaid with my placemats and tartan napkins!
The Better Homes and Gardens “Woody” salad plates were the inspiration for the tablescape. These are the first ones that I have collected and I am sure they will make their way onto my table many more times!
Katy found the Adirondack chair ornaments at Walmart, and they make the perfect place card holder…so cute!
*
A cinnamon stick, a sprig of rosemary, and wrapped with twine…so simple and easy. Most of my tables involve special people and memories, like the silver-plate flatware that was a wedding gift from my parents many years ago (more years than I am willing to admit!).
The centerpiece is a wooden box that is holding fresh cedar with red and white pillar candles nestled inside.
*
A refreshing drink…sparkling white grape juice with a twist of orange, fresh cranberries, and a sprig of rosemary
I am so thankful to still have my 86 year old Dad sitting at one end of our table and Butch at the other.
Wicker chargers lend texture to the setting…I love mixing patterns, colors, and textures!
Finishing the center of the table are pine cones and fresh Loblolly pine
My hubby (aka Butch) cut the cedar and decorated the chandelier…we added the pencil trees last year and love them in the bay window.
*
*
Candlelight always adds ambiance to a setting.
Adding greenery to the back of each chair adds even more festivity!

Proverbs 25:11

Great minds tablescape alike Pam, I’m sharing Plaid Tidings too! I always enjoy seeing your beautifully appointed dining room and tables and this one is no exception! I have the BH&G Heritage Collection salad plates and add one every year so I had to run out and pick up a “Woody” to add to my collection. I love your rustic box with your cedar and candles as a centerpiece at your table too 🙂
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Mary, thanks so much. Plaid has definitely been the rage for the past several years, but I have always used it at Christmas. Wishing you a joy-filled week!
Rita C. (Panoply) says
Pam! Love your table and the affordable woody plates as your springboard for this tablescape! Wow, that chandelier is really gorgeous with the cedar, and the addition of the pines in the windows really complement the overall theme. Very nice details with the little chair ornaments and natural sprigs of cinnamon and rosemary (subtle, seasonal fragrance). Of course, your base dinner plates, stemware and flatware are all beautiful too. This is my favorite way to do a table – mixing high and low elements. I purchased a few of those woody plates too. They reminded me of my childhood – my dad always had a station wagon for hauling us, the groceries, and pretty much everything a truck would otherwise be used for. 😉
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Rita, thanks for sharing your sweet memory of childhood, I am enjoying being a part of such a talented group of bloggers!
Jewel says

You have thought of every detail for this festive tablescape. I can smell the fragrance of the pine, cedar and rosemary. There is nothing better than the natural scents of nature.
You mix patterns, colors and textures well and your plates are so cute. Makes me want this pattern but I have NO ROOM for anymore dishes!
I especially like your fresh greenery in your chandelier and on the backs of your chairs. Love the glow of candlelight too!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Bonnie, I love fresh greenery and the smell fills the house…that is why I always wanted fresh trees. But with allergies and asthma, I can’t do that anymore. Blessings sweet friend
marmeladegypsy says
It’s gorgeous, just gorgeous, Pam! And yes, I might take that idea of the WalMart adirondack chairs if I can find them here. Of course, it means going to WalMart which is always a little large for me, but it might be worth it! I also do the cranberries in water or champagne — it’s so festive! And your Woody dishes are fabulous. How did I miss not adding those to my collection? (And where would I put them if I did!) We also share the chandelier greenery habit! But it is so elegant and lovely, whether in daylight or by candlelight. I know every guest will feel so special sitting down to dinner here!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Aw, thanks for your sweet and generous comments. Walmart is too large for me, always a last resort. I love fresh greenery and cranberries, they say Christmas! ~Blessings

Pam, I already know that this will be my favorite Christmas tablescape of the year. You’ve got everything cozy and inviting together in a red room with candle flame. The plaid, the smell of pine, and the darn cutest salad plates I’ve ever seen. Your entire family will aglow. This is the knock-down, drag-out cat’s meow. ~Ginene

Martha says
This table is so lovely! You have given so much attention to detail from your napkin rings, garnishment in your drink to your cedar-wrapped chandelier! Delilghtful! I, too, ordered 8 of these woody plates. My family had a Ford sedan (not a woody) just like this that we used to go get our real fir tree. My dad strapped it on the top just like this. These plates evoke such warm memories for me. Your table and dining room are just perfect, and the best of all is the gift of your father at the head of your table! What I wouldn’t give to have another dinner with mine. Merry Christmas!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Martha, thanks so much for sharing your personal story, that is what I enjoy the most about blogging is hearing stories from a reader’s heart. What a sweet memory and I know you will enjoy the “Woody” plates. Having my Dad is really a blessing, my Mom passed away over nine years ago and he still lives alone and has a very sharp mind. Thanks again
Lori says
What a festive table to sit at and enjoy! The plaid is perfect – I always struggle with mixing patterns but you’ve done a terrific job incorporating the different plaids. Love your centerpiece with the wooden box and candles with greenery and oh, those pics with the candles lit are definitely my fave. The special décor on the back of the chairs adds to the charm of the whole dining room as do those pencil trees in the bay window and the greenery on the chandelier. Going back to see if I can narrow down which pic to pin….great job!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Lori, thanks so much for such sweet comments. I love doing the blog hop and can’t wait to see your beautiful table. I really enjoy using fresh greenery that we cut from the garden!

I love everything about your tablescape and dining room decor. Do you possibly remember where you found your placemats with the plaid strips? My Christmas table will be a mix of Noritake Royal Hunt and I have Georges Briard The Hunt as my salad plates. The plaid ribbon in your placemats would complement my mix perfectly for next Christmas.
Thank you, and Merry Christmas!

Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Pat. The placemats are quite old and I bought them from a local department store that is no longer in business.
