“Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body.”
Proverbs 16:24
Before we head out to the garden today, I want to express my deepest sympathy for all the thousands of people that have been devastated by Hurricane Harvey! The pictures are heartbreaking, and my thoughts and prayers are with you all during this tragedy. We can pray and donate to reliable charities that will be meeting the needs of all those who have been affected…may God give you all peace and rest during this difficult time.
It doesn’t seem like it can really be the last day of August, does it? If you have been following along this summer you know that every other Monday, we have been partying in the garden with my Gardens Galore link-up party…a place for all things gardening! Monday, September 4, will be the last one for the summer season, and I am excited to see your last gardening posts of the season!
As the days of summer are waning, it takes on a whole new look…still beautiful and awe-inspiring. The colors become softer, the light cast different shadows, while butterflies and hummingirds are flitting all around! Let’s take one last summer stroll today…it’s the garden’s last hurrah!
The pair of sioux crepe myrtles that mark the side entrance into the garden are still in bloom!
The sunshine ligustrums’ unique foliage will last until the first frost!
Hydrangeas are changing into their softer colors…you can see them in their summer glory here!
Sunflowers are still showing out with their dinner-plate size blooms. You can read more about them here!
A peek at the pergola-covered patio!
Zinnias offer so many breathtaking colors to enjoy…
…their colors pop against a background of lantana!
Butch works hard to keep the thick zoysia grass manicured…it really feels like carpet!
This is the first time we have planted vinca between the soft touch hollies.
Okra will continue bearing until late October. We plant it for my sweet Daddy, he loves it fried very crispy!
You can see how large the ligustrums have grown on either side of the Japanese maple!
Thank you for following our garden posts this summer. We love sharing our little haven with you. Don’t forget the link-up party and even if you aren’t a blogger, there is so much garden inspiration for you to enjoy!
This week has been full of fall fun! Be sure to check out all of the talented bloggers that are participating in our week long tablescape blog hop!

I love seeing your garden in all its seasons Pam! We were out of town for several days and the heat and lack of water took its toll. I’ve always loved the contrast of bright yellow/lime against reddish/purple foliage and your ligustrums really shine in next to the Japanese maple.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much, Mary! The skies are very dark and we are in a slight tornado risk today. Happy Thursday!

Your gardens are gorgeous Pam! It is hard to believe that they are on their last hurrah as the gardens look so amazing….the sunshine ligustrum truly adds such a happy color and so great that it lasts through the summer…The temperatures and lack of water really took a toll on our flowers this year. Have a great day Pam!!!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Gardening is a challenge especially if you are away for a week or two. We haven’t taken a trip during the summer, we are planning an October trip. Happy Thursday!
the Painted Apron says
Your photos and garden are stunning Pam, each one a work of art! Your post is a big ray of sunshine as we sit in the dark and pouring rain this morning. Stay safe as the rains come your way, hopefully they won’t affect your late summer blooms~
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Jenna, you must be without power! This storm has been unbelievable! Stay safe~
Maristella says
Oh my, wonderful…Best wishes.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much Maristella!

Honestly, I don’t see how you guys do it. Your garden is so stunning — it really does take my breath away and I am in awe of both the flower design and the overall layout. I love the hydrangeas — yes, they are as wonderful in fall as they are the rest of the season. Knocks my socks off — you need to give yourself a big pat on the back (or a massage, if you’ve been spending some time weeding!)
Carole @ From My Carolina Home says
I love fried okra too! Oh, please continue the Gardens Galore through October, there is much to enjoy in Autumn!!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Carole, thanks so much! Maybe I reconsider about an October party!
Sandra @ Maison De Jardin says
Your gardens are beautiful, Pam. Things here are looking as though they would like to go to sleep. I have already cut back a few of my peonies.
Having Mississippi roots, I also love okra. I especially like to leave it on the plant until it is dried and use it in fall and winter wreaths.
Have a great day and weekend!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks Sandra, wishing you a beautiful day and weekend! ?
Joanna says

Your gardens are simply awe-inspiring. This takes a lot of work and planning to create something like this. I will be joining your Garden Galore 6. I join you in sending my thoughts and prayers to everyone affected by Hurricane Harvey.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Dianne, I am so glad you will be joining me at Gardens Galore on Monday! Blessings~
Leslie Anne Tarabella says
It may be the end of summer, but your garden still looks fresh! I wish someone would invent year-round crepe myrtles like the encore azaleas!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Oh year-round crepe myrtles would be awesome!
Kim says
Your garden is how I picture Eden! The mixtures and colors are so heavenly. It’s sad to realize it will be dormant at some point and no longer colorful. But, here in the south, we have two or three more months of warmth (mostly), a few new blooms, and beautiful colors during the fade into winter. It seems to be happening earlier this year. And, we always know that another spring is around the corner – actually, a couple of corners. Ha! Happy Thursday, Pam! 🙂
Pam @ Everyday Living says
How sweet, Kim! Autumn is my favorite season and I love the brilliant leaves!

Pam, I join you in prayers for all those devastated by the storm. It has been heartbreaking and such a feeling of helplessness. We have elderly relatives in Houston that had to leave their home. Wonderful neighbors took them in. Fortunately they had power and for that I am thankful.
Your garden is beautiful and we appreciate all the garden parties. I hope to join you on Monday.
It has rained and rained hard here yesterday, last night and today. Thankful we are getting it and not Texas. It’s been a busy week bloghopping.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Bonnie, I am so sorry to hear about your relatives! So many heartbreaking stories. I am so hoping you can join on Monday! Blessings sweet friend!
lulu says
I’ve love having my own cutting garden and I’m sorry that it is on its last legs. It continues to be a work in progress and I can’t wait till next spring to try a few new things.
Thank you for your sweet words. Houston needs all the good thoughts/prayers it can get.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Linda, you have done a great job gardening! I hope you will share your friend’s garden on the link-up on Monday.

That is the prettiest garden ever!! We just planted a dwarf Sunshine Ligustrum and we are so excited about the bright foliage. Your garden really is just stunning. It has a formal look to it but it’s planted with things that I do not consider formal. Love that! I’d never go in!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Stacey, thank you so much for your sweet words. As you know, gardening is a lot of work, but we love it! Happy Labor Day Weekend!

Pam, your gardens are as beautiful as your tablescapes. Girl, I have no clue how you manage to keep that garden so beautiful. I love the pictures. They need to be in a magazine. Hoping you have a great day and please do keep us in prayer with Irma. I am needing that old gal to go the sea! Hugs and blessings, Cindy
