“But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.”
Galatians 4:4-5
Happy Thursday, dear friends and welcome to Tablescape Thursday! Yes, you read that right…Tablescape Tuesday is coming two days later this week! Between hosting Thanksgiving, loads of cooking, Christmas decorating, participating in a fun Blog Hop, and most importantly keeping my sweet Ella Mae I just ran out of time and energy! That happens more often that I’d like to admit these days!
Do you love tartan as much as I do? It’s so classic and it is perfect this time of year! We’ve all seen Scottish kilts made up of the criss-crossed horizontal and vertical bands called tartan. We visited Scotland a couple of years ago, and I must admit their wool tartan scarves, blankets and kilts were amazing! You can see more of our trip to Edinburgh here.
I’ve combined two different tartans today to bring you this week’s Christmas tablescape! The table covering (that is actually a throw) and the napkins are a recent find at TJ Maxx. You will also notice a few different trees today…flocked slim trees with their twinkling lights in the bay window that are magical during dinner, my oldest Christmas china made by Nikko, and my favorite ceramic Christmas napkin rings made by my mother and dated 1979. I guess you could say that today’s theme is obvious: Tartan & Trees!
As the sun began to rise, I decided to take a few photos of the table…I love the sunlight and shadows that dance around my dining room!
The vintage red stemware is perfect for the season!
It seems the sun was spotlighting jolly ole Santa’s bag of toys!
My mother gave me the “Happy Holidays” pattern in 1986, the year it was introduced. It was discontinued in 2014.
The centerpiece is composed of some of my old world Santas and rustic lanterns nestled in fresh sprigs of Leyland Cypress.
The Sweet Christmas tree napkin rings will always be a favorite!

Worth the wait, Pam. How magical! Your capture of the sunlight is just as wonderful as seeing the trees at night in their twinkle. This table setting makes me very happy – tartan, vintage pieces (with love, from mom! ♥), and the natural light – perfect!
Thank you Rita! I love the way the sun hits our dining room this time of year.
I agree with Rita. Your dining room is magical. Gifts of China and napkin rings from your mother fills your heart with memories I know. The Santas and lanterns are so beautifully placed on your table. Just love your flocked trees in the bay window and your use of light. Tartan is a favorite for me also. Your schedule sounds demanding. Get enough rest. This is an early morning treat!
Thank you Dianne, hopefully I can get rested over the weekend! Blessings~
Yes, Magical is so descriptive of this room. I have to admit to craving the vintage red stemware though.
Thank you Libby! Have a wonderful weekend!
Magical is the word of the day! All the trees in the bay window start the magic! I do appreciate a good tartan since I am descended from Clan McGregor. You’re not going to believe this…just as I have the same nativity as the one your sweet mother made for you, I also have the napkin rings! They were made for me by my late sister-in-law back in the late 70s. Another family treasure for sure.
Roxanne, how ironic that we share the same napkin rings and nativity! Ceramics were really big in the 70’s and I still love all that my Mom made! Thank you for your sweet visits and comments…Happy Thursday!
Pam: Your beautiful red dining room is certainly a Christmas room. I do love your china and those sweet napkins rings – so pretty. Also love the trees in the bay area of the room along with the greenery on the chandelier. Just lovely. The tartan is the icing. As always Pam – a beautiful post.
Have a wonderful day and a great weekend !
Sandra, thank you for your always sweet visits!
The tartans work beautifully with all the red tones in your dining room. With everything that’s going on I like the way you kept the tablesetting quite simple.
Thank you Linda! I do love a mix!
Very pretty, Pam. I need to be a fly on the wall at your house to see how you do everything.
How clever to use the tartan throw and mix and match the plaids. I love your early morning light on your table and the candle light showing through the star and tree on your wooden boxes.
Your mother’s napkin rings are a treasure as are her gifted Christmas dishes to you.
Loved the pic of you in Scotland.
Thank you my friend!
Pam, your tartan tablescape certainly has the Wow Factor! And your home is the perfect background for it! Tartan or no, I’ve always loved red plaids.
Thanks so much, Jean!
I always love your table Pam they are warm an welcoming and I often get good ideas for mine…. I sould have a tartan scarf somewhere (I only need to remember where….?) and it will be a table runner for my Cristmas Eve dinner. Thank you?
Just perfect! Everything is beautiful and cozy…Love your post, how delightful!
Thank you sweet lady!
Maristella is right, everything perfect! I can not say anything else … The table has been regal, elegant, original … I loved it.
I have also taken a walk through the link to the trip you made to Scotland, a place that is always in my desires to visit, it is magnificent, I will have to find among my friends someone who wants to share a trip because alone it is very sad.
Thank you for always showing kind, beautiful, creative things …
Dolores
Dolores, ¡siempre eres un soplo de aire fresco! Gracias amigo mío por tus visitas y por tus agradables comentarios. Abrazos, Pam
You captured this beautifully- the sun shining in casting a lovely glow. I do love tartan too- and your napkins are so festive. I haven’t used my Christmas tree dishes in a long time. I used to remove my everyday dishes and replace them with that set. I should do that again!
Liz, thank you. I love using the Christmas tree dishes each year.
Love the plaid! Its bold colors and pattern are always festive. Your Christmas tree napkin rings and plates combine perfectly and your old world Santas are the icing on the cake. Thanks for sharing you lovely holiday table!
Thank you so much Lisa!
Beautiful table setting. The napkin rings are elegant.
Marilyn
Thank you Marilyn.
Everything is elegant. Love the plaid items.
Marion
Thank you Marion ~
What a beautiful table and lkike you, I love to capture some shots as the sun comes across our table too! Love your tartans and the napkin rings made by your Mom are such a treasure, I love them! Have a beautiful weekend.
Thank you dear Pinky!
I see or hear the word tartan and have an immediate physical reaction…part good, part bad. The good is because I LOVE to decorate with tartans and WISH I could go to the UK to pick out some authentic stuff. The bad is because it always reminds me of 1st grade through high school with our school uniforms!!!!!!!!!! 🙂 HOliday Wishes was introduced way back in 1986??!?!?! Wow…didn’t realize it had been around quite that long! It is timeless in its beauty and relevance. Too bad it’s discontinued now. It’s sweet that you remember that as a gift from your Mom. Those are always the BEST dishes!!!!!!!
Thank you Alycia. My thoughts and prayers are for you.
Oh my gosh this table is stunning!….I do have a love for Tartan…I guess it is because of my Irish/Scottish heritage…the table is so very warm, elegant, and filled with beautiful details. It must be so very special to set the table with the dishes your mom gifted to you….such beautiful memories.
Thanks my sweet friend! I have a little Scottish heritage also!
This is incredibly gorgeous Pam! However will you do another table for the hop next week! It doesn’t seem like you’ve run out of gas at all! I am mad for plaid and your dining room is always a stunning background. I love the way you use the snowy trees in the window, and yes the sunlight is wonderful!
Jenna
Jenna, thank you my friend. Yes, I have a table on the blog hop tomorrow. I have run out of steam. I woke up Friday morning with severe lower back pain…ugh!
Pam, I always love seeing your gorgeous dining room. The sunlight beaming throughout the room is just beautiful! The plaid throw surrounded by your collection of trees and adorned with your pretty china is perfect for the Christmas Season. Take care, and I hope you have a wonderful weekend, sweet friend!!!
Thank you Shannon! It is a busy time of the year for everyone! Blessings~
Your tartan table is festive and fun.
Very well done!

Thank you Amalia
I have the same napkin rings I made in the 80’s as a youngster. My set has the tree, Santa, turkey, and angels. I also have china very similar. It’s like looking at my own dining room so I love your selections. i have been making wreaths this week and have selected traditional this year for the most part.
Wow, so you have the same napkin rings! My Mom made the turkey and angel ones and she gave those to a dear friend of mine! I know your home looks beautiful!
Beautifully done Pam. You captured some beautiful photos of the sun shining in. Love the tartan look, especially because my background is Scottish. Everything looks so festive in your lovely red dining room. The dishware is perfect, especially with the red goblets. Looking forward to seeing what you do for the tablescape blog hop. Happy Sunday.
Thank you Linda. I am looking forward to seeing your table for the blog hop!
I love everything about this table, Pam!! The two different tartan plaids work so well together, along with your red stemware that makes the perfect punch of red. Your fresh greenery with the rustic lanterns make a great runner and the trees at the end really set it all off. It just looks fabulous!!
Pam, your images are perfect. I love the play of light on your beautiful table set with tartan and trees makes my heart sing. Yes, I love tartan too! I pinned your mosaic.
Thank you so much, Sarah!
I wish I had a functional dining room! This is adorable!
