“Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?”
Matthew 6:26
Brrrr…it’s cold here in the Appalachian Foothills! Happy Tuesday dear friends…I hope all of you are staying warm and cozy! Today is definitely a wintry day…and according to our weatherman extraordinaire, we should see some snow! I know some of you see it daily and probably get tired of it, but here in Alabama it’s a big deal. Schools shut down, workplaces close, and everyone rushes to buy milk and bread. I’ve always wondered why milk and bread are the two items of choice, but I guess nothing beats a milk sandwich when you’re snowed in?! During these cold winter months, I enjoy bird watching out my windows. Occasionally I will see the bright plumage of the male cardinal against the bare landscape…a beautiful sight! We enjoy feeding our little feathered friends when they come for a visit! Since it’s so cold out, I thought we could do a little bird watching and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate today at the table! Pull up a seat and join me for Birds Of A Feather!
*
I know I have mentioned it several times, but the winter sunlight in the early morning plays magic in the dining room!
*
I have used the wooden box several times as a container for flowers! Today it is holding pheasant feathers, pillar candles, and pine cones with a few sprigs of seeded eucalyptus.
For texture and a lighter-colored surface for the box, I placed it on water hyacinth mats.
The “Winter Fauna” salad plates were found at Pottery Barn a couple of years ago.
Buffalo checked placemats anchor each plate setting that includes twig flatware from Pier 1 and white napkins cinched by silver napkin rings with a tucked-in feather.
“A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in a setting of silver”
Proverbs 25:11

One thing you do so well in your tablescapes is a formality that still feels warm and enveloping without being claustrophobic. It’s elegant and I love the feathers and warm tones, yet it doesn’t feel stuffy or “oh my! I’m wearing the wrong shoes to this dinner” kind of table. I just love what you do every time. This is no exception.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Jeanie, what sweet and kind thoughts! I never would want anyone to feel uncomfortable at my tables. Your words are so encouraging and affirming. Thank you dear friend!
the Painted Apron says
Your plates are gorgeous Pam, what a wonderful table and theme for these cold January days! Love the red and black buffalo check place mats and the other warm woodland elements you’ve used. Whenever I am lucky enough to spot a cardinal in the yard I feel like I’ve been given a gift! Fingers crossed you don’t get snowed in or loose power today!

Barely a dusting of snow, but it melted and froze upon contact of roads. Schools are closed again tomorrow. We may have single digits tonight. It feels bitter outside.

Oh, Pam, how I love these plates. The feather centerpiece and the place mats pulls it together beautifully. I always love the way you tell a story and your description of seeing a cardinal in the snow. So beautiful my friend. Can’t wait to hear your news! We are suppose to get snow tonight. We have a weatherman extraordinaire also.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Dianne. We got a little snow, but the temperature is so cold that it immediately froze into a solid sheet of ice. Schools are closed again tomorrow. We may have single digits tonight! Stay safe and warm!

Pam , you are so creative in styling your tables !
Where do you purchase the feathers ? Whenever I find them , they are always very expensive .
Beautiful , warm winter post !
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Christine, I can’t remember where I purchased the feathers and they can be expensive, but I do remember I got a good price on them.

Pam, what a nice winter table. In winter there is a very special sun, I have also observed it because the first rays of sunlight enter through my window and illuminate the chimney exactly. When it is Christmas it makes a very beautiful effect because they illuminate the figures of the Nativity that I put on the mantelpiece … it is magical !!!
I love your dishes and I have noticed the cutlery that is very original and beautiful … what beautiful things you show us !! Thank you, friend, your posts are very much desired by me.

Dear Pam, I don’t take the time to enjoy your blog often enough, but it struck me this morning, as I’m opening a new ENG 101 course, that I need to pay respect to my friends who are actually out there producing beautiful material and not just teaching it! Please continue to share your travels and table elegance with us! Luann
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Luann, thank you for sending encouraging words today. Best wishes as you open a new ENG course. I know you are a wonderful teacher and mentor! Blessings~

I love the pretty light in your dining room! The buffalo check placemats really make the bird plates sing! The twiggy flatware are so appropriate for your theme.
I’m intrigued by your upcoming post. Curious to see if you get snow today!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Bonnie, we got a smidgen of snow, but it did freeze and has left icy conditions. Schools are closed again tomorrow. We could possibly have single digits tonight.

Pam, such a lovely table. I am so in love with your salad plates and when I saw them all I could think of was my mom. She would have just been over the moon about them. Also, love your centerpiece and the light in your dining room is quite special.
Will be looking forward to your news on Thursday. Until then, have a lovely week!

Thank you Sandra. My mom loved birds~

Beautiful, beautiful Pam! Your neck of the woods sounds like ours….with the hint of snow coming the bread and milk disappear from the shelves…We always need a great peanut butter and jelly sandwich with a glass of milk in front of the fire!…Yes, we too are predicted to have some snow but we will be a day later than you…Love those PB plates, especially the Chickadees! Gorgeous table as always and love how you capture the light streaming in! Happy Snow Day!

Hi Pam, As a fellow bird lover, I love the winter nesting at your table! The Winter Fauna plates are my favorites and the sunlight is so welcoming in your DR on a cold winter day! It’s snowing here this morning. I hope you’re tucked inside warm & cozy ♥
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Mary, I am definitely nesting on this frigid day.
Katie Clooney says
Yup… you did it again. Another gorgeous table setting!! I love everything about it.. the china, feathers, pine cones, and plaid place mats. Your photography is always the cherry on the sundae. Enjoy your week, Pam.

I would love to join you for hot chocolate and feel the warmth of winter sun on my face. It’s all perfect for a chill day.

It is so cold today, all I can think of is hot tea or cocoa!
Sandra @ Dinner at Eight says
Ooohhh, I love your wintry table! It would be a cozy place to settle in for a long chat over great food. I’m surprised you don’t see more cardinals. I’m just north of Atlanta and for several years we have had a pair of cardinals nesting in the holly bushes next to the driveway. The male’s favorite perch is the side mirror on our car!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Sandra, we do see cardinals regularly. We even have all eagles on occasion! I love seeing birds out my windows!
Linda says
Love your bird theme. i adore birds. i could sit for hours watching all of the different birds that come to feed. The bird plates are lovely. Love the Buffalo check. Your dining room is so pretty with the winter sun. Have a blessed day Pam.

Thank you so much Linda…Happy Thursday!

I always swoon over your lovely tablescapes! I laughed at your comment about the food items purchased in anticipation of snow. Here in Virginia, eggs fly off the shelves- in addition to milk and bread. We joke that obviously everyone craves French toast at the first hint of snowflakes! (TP is also a hot pre-storm commodity!)
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much Margie. We had very little snow but minus wind chill yesterday! Stay warm!
Barbara Windle says
Just lovely, Pam. I am such a bird lover so naturally I am drawn to your plates. I like the idea of using pheasant feathers at this time of year. I packed mine up after Christmas. I may have to unpack them again.

I used to enjoy the winter season. Table decoration looks good. Feel happy to sit and watch the birds giving present to me.

Our winter has been very cold, minus wind chill yesterday in the Deep South!

Pam, that light is gorgeous! I especially love it hitting on the feathers. While you are getting cold, us that normally have a lot of snow for winter, have none and it was in the 50’s today. We are suppose to get some this weekend. We really do need snow! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
hugs,
Jann

Sweet Pam, what an elegant and beautiful table honoring our feathered friends! I am swooning over those bird plates. Your centerpiece of candles and pheasant feathers placed in the wooden box make such a pretty statement on your table. We love our birds too! We enjoy feeding them, but we have been battling squirrels. They keep stealing our bird seed. Mr. Bleu came up with a clever plan…he sprays the pole with cooking spray. It seems to work. However, we now have a opossum eating the seed! I hope you have a Happy Thursday! Take care, and stay warm!!!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you sweet friend. We have all kinds of wildlife that visit. The cardinal is my favorite bird to see during the winter months. We do see bald eagles on occasion because we are near a river.
Liz @ Home and Gardening With Liz says
Elegantly handsome! I love to capture the sun at our table too. Your setting is so cozy and warm and the capture of sun adds the perfect touch! The way you presented the feathers is brilliant and I adore the bird dishes! Your wood box is a wonderful way to display creative centerpieces and you’ve created some fantastic ones. Stay warm!
