“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:9
Hello sweet friends and welcome to another edition of Tablescape Tuesday! I am very excited to share my new (to me) pottery. I recently acquired from my friend, Rita at Panoply, 58 pieces of beautiful Quimper faience pottery in the “Soleil Yellow” pattern. I have long admired Quimper and am more than pleased to have added this to my collection of dishware. I have 8 dinner plates, 8 luncheon plates, 10 salad or bread/butter plates, and 16 cups/saucers. According to Rita, this pottery came from a single estate, manufactured sometime after 1930, likely during WWII. It was a popular gift from soldiers, who were stationed in France, to their loved ones during that era. Each piece is hand-painted and is made in the Brittany region of France. You are invited to join me in the dining room for a vintage Quimper pottery tablescape!
You all know how much I love color, the sunny yellow pottery mixes well with the red walls!
The dark blue stemware highlights the blue in the Quimper faience.
This is such a happy pattern, it reminds me of our lovely trips to France…
…I haven’t visited the Brittany region, but I think I should. I will have to discuss that with my Renaissance Man who probably will not be in favor. I will let y’all know.
I bought this pitcher at TJ Maxx a couple of weeks ago. It was made in Portugal and is hand painted. A very easy to find flower is alstroemeria. The grocery store had just the right colors to complement the Quimper faience!
The octagonal shape of the plates adds more interest!
I had to hurry and set the table (we will talk about that later), so it was easier to set four places rather than six or eight.
On each plate are a male or female Breton, the peasant countryside people dressed in traditional attire.
Each piece is hand-painted and decorated and then marked Henriot, authenticating its uniqueness and manufacture.

Lots of character in that pottery. Lends a sunny character to the room too.
Thank you and I like the sunny feel!
Yes, such a happy pattern perfect for you! The napkins look very nice complimenting the pottery as does the pitcher with alstroemeria. Love anything from France.Very charming table.
Thank you dear Bonnie. I can’t wait to use it in the garden, it is 32 here this morning!
Gorgeous pottery! When I was in the 3rd grade, a zillion years ago, we read about Brittany. I’ve never forgotten that. I still have not been. I got close when we went to Normandy, but still not there. Thanks for sharing your new pottery.
Thank you Nancy, we still haven’t been to Normandy but it is on our list!
I love the vintage Quimper faience and its octagonal shape Pam! So cheery and wonderful to add to your dish pantry and made even more special coming from Rita. I can just imagine at a table in your garden with sunflowers! 🙂
Thank you Mary! I will be excited to use the Quimper in the garden this summer!
I love this, Pam! I have always loved Quimper pottery, and even have a few pieces. This is a wonderful collection, and a beautiful tablescape.
Patti, I knew you would love this. Thank you dear friend!
Beautiful table…yellow and blue are my favorite color combination! I’ve always admired Quimper pottery because it’s so happy. It would be fun to pull that pop of orange out with flowers in the summer!
Roxanne, I can’t wait to use the Quimper in the garden this summer and the pop of orange would be beautiful!
Pam, I am swooning over your vintage Quimper collection. The history behind it makes it even more special. I agree that the bright yellow looks just beautiful with your red walls. I dream of going to France one day. Happy Tuesday, sweet friend!!!
Thank you Shannon, I am so pleased to have acquired the pottery! I hope you make it to France one day sweet friend!
Hello Pam ,
This post really speaks to me for a couple of reasons …
There is a favorite French restaurant here in Ellicott City,Md called “Tersiguels”. The owner is from that region in France . One of the dining room china cabinets is filled with “Quimper”.It is quite a collection
and adds to the French charm in the restaurant-
and nods to the owners heritage .
Have you read the book “A Gift From Brittany” by Marjorie Price ? It is Ms. Price’s memoir of her life in
Brittany during the 1960’s . The memoir is delightful
and is one of my favorite books .
Have Butch read it with you and you may be planning that trip soon … and come home with more
Quimper pottery !
P.S. Let me know when you read the book !
Lovely French post !
Thank you so much Christine. I have not read the book, but I certainly will, it sounds lovely. I will let you know when I read it!
What an exquisite table!Love your pretty flower bouquet!Hugs!
Thank you dear Maristella!
Oh Pam, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a table of yours I’ve loved more. That Quimper is just FABULOUS and all the more special coming from Rita! That colors is just wonderful and it “feels” so good on your table. I especially love the overhead shot of your table. I think you should add Brittany to your list of spots. It’s stunning — some beautiful ocean spots as well as charming towns. Oh, I love Quimper — this just hits the spot. Big smiles!
Thank you Jeanie, I just knew you had visited Brittany. I hope we can plan to go!
Beautiful table with your new Quimper pottery. I, too, love the history that goes with it. This really looks beautiful in your Red Room.
Thanks dear friend!
Pam, your Quimper dishes are so unique and pretty. I love the color combo and the shape. They look so lovely in your dining room. Sharing the history is wonderful. Beautiful alstroemeria centerpiece with the pretty pitcher you found at at TJMaxx. Happy Tuesday
Thanks so much Linda. Have a beauty-filled week!
Pam, such a cheerful and lovely table. The Quimper is wonderful and I know makes you happy when you use it. I do hope another trip to France can be arranged for you in the near future. Have a beautiful week !
Thank you Sandra, I always love a trip!
TJ Maxx, such a great place for irresistible finds that come in so handy for the table. I have a friend who has a large collection of Quimper so I always enjoy what others have collected of the same.
Thank you Linda!
So pretty Pam, I always admire Quimper, but don’t own a single piece…the pitcher was a great find, and looks so good with it! I love alstroemeria too, they last forever!
Jenna

As always, just beautiful! Betty
Thank you dear Betty!
Pam, I KNEW the Quimper would find a loving home with you. It looks fabulous in your dining room and, as others have suggested, I know it will be just as fabulous or even better in the garden. I’m still amazed that I was able to ship it all without damage. What a relief that was. I do hope you get to Brittany. I hope I do too. 😉
Rita, I can’t wait to use the Quimper in the garden. You shipped it like a pro, it arrived perfectly! I would love to go to Brittany.
The dishes definately compliment the colour decor of your dining room…It’s earthy yet elegant .
Thank you so much.
I love your new pottery collection! It is definitely very unique but you are so talented to pull all that sunny yellow together with the blues, reds and magenta ( I don’t know what color to call the pretty flowers! ) Thanks for sharing & continuing to inspire!
You are so sweet, dearest Esther!
I love Quimper! Your table setting is Beautiful…..it will also be stunning displayed in cabinet! Not only is it nice for being French but it also has a Folk Art look I love too. If you tire of it…think of me!
Thank you Nancy, I will definitely remember you. You are correct, it is French but it does have a folk art look!
I love this French country pattern –not only is the hand-painted design charming but the shape of the pieces is really interesting as well. I can imagine using this set for an alfresco dinner or lunch in the garden. I had never heard of Quimper. Thanks so much for sharing it with us on Share Your Style!
Thanks so much, Lisa!
Dear friend you did good, with this adorable Quimper buy from Rita. I specially love the shape they have and the yellow which makes it such a happy dishware. Good for every season.
The table you set is very pretty and yet simple.
Fabby
Thank you so much Fabby!
As soon as I saw Quimper in your title, I had to come over and read this. (I am here via Soulful Home-Sundays at Home.) When I was very young, my Grandmother traveled to France and brought back some Quimper pieces. I still have them; 4 salad plates and 3 bowls. The bowls have little extended tabs to hold them with, and each bowl has a different design and color on their tabs. She bought them in the late ’60’s, and this Quimper is white, not yellow, so I am guessing it may not be as old as yours. It’s always a delight to run across them in a restaurant, someone’s home, or a blog like yours!
Thanks so much! I am so excited to have the Quimper and can’t wait to use it in a garden setting! I know you treasure the pieces from your grandmother. Thank you so much for visiting!
I smiled reading your post. I have always been fascinated by Quimper faience. You are so lucky to have these pieces. Really like your new pitcher, too.
Thanks so much, it was a wonderful discovery!
Beautiful Pottery pattern
Thanks so much!
Pam, I love this table. Your Quimper is beautiful!!
Thank you Angelina!
A beautiful table of beautiful gifts from the heart from sweet Rita!!!!
Yes, Rita has been so generous to all of us!!!
Hi, Pam. I LOVE your table! I only recently became enamored of Quimper and have a couple of pieces in white. While antiquing , we found 2 cups and saucers, 1 salad plate and an egg cup like yours, in the yellow Quimper. We purchased them and the cashier mentioned that she had purchased these pieces and others from the Fess Parker Estate Sale in Santa Barbara after he has passed away. I’m only sorry I hadn’t been to the store earlier to get some more. The pieces make a happy addition to my hutch and blend well with my other Quimper. Thank you for sharing this lovely table.
Rosie @ The Magic Hutch
Thank you Rosie. I was gifted the Quimper, and I love it. Have a wonderful weekend!
