“Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her:”
Proverbs 31:28
Happy Monday sweet friends! Today is a special Monday Morning Blooms as it is our Mother’s Day edition. If you have been following my blog for very long, you know that I often share memories of my beloved mother.
I am blessed to have had a Godly mother who poured her life into me. I was overjoyed to become a mother after thirteen years of marriage and more joy flowed when I became a grandmother!
My mother loved fresh flowers and I so enjoyed taking her a fresh bouquet often. Blush and lavender roses, peony tulips, stock, and honeysuckle fill an ironstone pitcher and grace a table set in her memory.
The links for my friends’ beautiful floral inspiration are at the bottom of my post.
“Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.”
Proverbs 31:30
Mother had the gift of hospitality. As I was growing up there were always people sitting around our table for Sunday lunch. It might be the pastor and his family, a single mom and her children, or someone that was going through difficult times that just needed to feel loved.
The floral tablecloth underneath the lavender topper was made for a surprise party that I gave for my mother’s 70th birthday, seventeen years ago.
My talented mother was known far and wide for her cooking and baking. When you were invited to sit around my mom’s and dad’s table, you not only felt loved but you were fed the best Southern cooking that could be found anywhere.
She baked hundreds of cakes and gave them away to those who were hurting, distressed, grieving, or needed a hug.
Mother mentored so many young ladies and teens. They would sit for hours on her screened porch as she gave them Godly counsel and shared with them the love of Christ.
She loved her family so well. My brother and I grew up in a home where unconditional love was given to us by both parents. I probably didn’t realize it at the time, but that was an immeasurable blessing that many children did not have. Mother loved her three grandchildren and lived to see them become adults. She was so proud of them. During their teen years every Thursday night was their night at her house. She prepared their favorite foods which most often was country fried steak, mashed potatoes, with biscuits and gravy. Nanny always made their favorite cookies…chocolate chip or chocolate-peanut butter-oatmeal! She would pack up the left-overs and send home with them. They loved her and their friends loved her. She would often prepare food and take to their school for the entire class. She had a servant’s heart and I never saw one thread of selfishness in her life. She freely gave whatever she had.
My mother was not only beautiful on the inside, but her heart of love flowed outwardly through her eyes of mercy and kindness, and a smile that would light up any room. She always began her day with coffee, her Bible, and quiet time in prayer. I never remember a day that my mother did not “fix her face” as she called it. Her make-up was applied whether she was leaving home or not. She was a beautiful lady in her younger years with dark eyes and naturally jet-black hair. As she grew older, she became more beautiful with her white hair that signified gained wisdom and grace.
The photo of Mother and me was taken on Mother’s Day in the early 90’s. My love of setting pretty tables was inspired by my mother. She never served anyone on a paper plate or used a paper napkin. She didn’t save “her best” for a special occasion, because she viewed every day as special and those that sat around her table were special.
Mother was a beautiful example of a Proverbs 31 woman. The heart of my daddy trusted in her and she did him good and not harm all the days that she lived. She worked willingly with her hands…cooking, cleaning, quilting, making hand-made crafts, and providing a lovely and well kept home for her family.
She would rise early in the morning to prepare food for her husband and children. She planted vegetable gardens and worked hard making her house a home. She always had an open hand to the poor and needy, giving away what she had to meet their needs.
Strength and dignity were Mother’s clothing. She did not eat the bread of idleness. I never saw my mother when she wasn’t busy, but she always had time to sit down with a friend or her daughter. Her days started early and ended late.
Her children and grandchildren rise up and call her blessed. Her husband, my precious daddy, praises her. Her great-grandchildren are told stories of their Nanny. Ella Mae sees her picture and asks where is Nanny. It is such a joy to tell her she is with Jesus, and this answer satisfies her. The way she lived her life continues affecting people twelve years later. It is a reminder that the way we live our life matters…every single day that we are given will echo into eternity!
You are in for a special treat as you visit Shirley, Lidy, and Mary. These ladies are so talented and gracious and I count it a privilege to be in their company.

Thank you Pam, I enjoyed reading about your memories of your mother so much, she sounds like a truly amazing woman. My mother also lived a life busy with her hands, cooking sewing, setting beautiful tables, and my parents also loved to entertain. It naturally passes down I think, which is why it is so important that we set good examples for our children and grandchildren. Your lavender table topper is stunning with your Monday Morning Blooms this week, and all the more special that you made it for your mother’s birthday and now are using it for Mother’s Day and this beautiful tribute to her life. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree you know, what joy and love you bring to all! I hope you have a wonderful Mother’s Day!

This is one of the most beautiful tributes I’ve ever read. From hearing of your mom — and reading you for such a long while — I’m thinking that apple didn’t fall far from the tree. Her love for things beautiful, entertaining, baking and her joy of life and giving all sounds a good deal like her daughter.

How beautiful Pam. Your mother was truly the kind of woman we all strive to be. What a Godly role model she was, not only for you, but for all the people she came in contact with. Definitely a Proverbs 31 wife, mother and friend. Your table is lovely as was your mother…and all the “gifts” she left you, have made you the woman that you are today. Beautiful inside and out! You ARE your mother’s daughter. God Bless!

role the Lord set for her in His plan. And you, my dear, certainly are your Mother’s Daughter in so many ways. Oh to have known her, but we can in some measure through you. Bless you for

You have set a gorgeous table in your garden honoring her with such a beautiful floral arrangement. I especially love your stunning tablecloth and napkins.

Pam, of course you know how I loved your Mother, named Shirshee by my Tara. Your tribute to her in this post is a wonderful example of how love given so freely as she gave is long remembered. She would be so proud of how you have followed in her footsteps and cook the family’s favorite foods, and host many meals around your table. Shirshee’s food was legendary, but her love for others and the way she showed it in so many ways, was even more legendary. She was the best example of God’s love, which she showed in so many ways.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you dear friend. You and Tara had a special bond with Shirshee, and she had a place reserved in her heart for the both of you. She had a beautiful servant’s heart.

Beautiful table Pam. The topper is my absolute favorite color and looks stunning with the flowers. You are truly blessed to have had such a wonderful Mother. My Mom is also a God fearing woman and works daily to cook, clean and keep her home beautiful for her family. God has blessed her with 85 years and I am eternally grateful for my parents and having been brought up in a Christian home. I remember Mom kneeling at her bedside every night and praying for all her children, and I am blessed today because of those prayers. Happy Mother’s Day to you and your readers.
