“Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.”
Romans 12:17-18
Hello sweet friends! I hope you all enjoyed the long holiday weekend…we certainly did! We had lots of fun, ate too much food, but did manage a little time for relaxation. It seems that summertime with its heat and humidity has settled over our Appalachian Foothills. I am thinking all things summer like sunflowers and seersucker!. Yes, I said seersucker!
It is summertime, so more than likely you will find me in the garden for Tablescape Tuesday!
Yes, the heat and humidity have been high over the past week, but about an hour before the sun sets it starts to cool down enough to set a table!
My inspiration for the table is a “Picnic Seersucker” table square that I got on sale with free shipping from April Cornell. Seersucker is a thin, puckered all cotton fabric that is definitely for summertime. I remember when I was in junior high school having a seersucker blue and white skirt that I wore with a straw belt and Izod white top…I think I was very much into the preppy look. Years ago Butch had a seersucker shirt that he loved to wear because it was comfortable and cool in our hot summers. It was not unusual to see bankers, attorneys, and business men wearing seersucker suits with bow ties back in the day! Do you have memories of a seersucker dress, shorts, or pants from days gone by, or perhaps you may even have a piece of seersucker clothing now?
Sunflowers are in bloom behind our garden space…of course, they are the centerpiece! We have been planting them for several years and they seem to say summer to me. They have such happy faces!
Vanilla strawberry hydrangeas are also in bloom, if you look close you can see a sunflower in the background!
Using the colors from the table cloth made for a fun table with lots of color! Y’all do remember how much I love color?!!
I have had the cute red placemats forever, they seem perfect for the table! I also have the same placemats in a happy yellow color.
I almost mixed the yellow and red placemats, but then decided there was enough color!
White everyday dinner plates are topped with paper sunflower napkins! Gasp…I did say paper. I wanted sunflower napkins (no cloth ones in my stash) and just happened to have paper ones. Shh…don’t tell the tablescape police! Bordallo pinheiro salad plates, hammered stainless flatware, and amber stemware round out each place setting!
The only problem with the paper napkins was the wind kept blowing them even under the salad plates. You may spot that on a couple of photos.
Cute tassels are on each corner of the table square!
I rarely use this stemware in summer, I often think of it only for autumn.
Sunflowers always make me smile…
…I will be sharing more sunflower photos in my garden post coming on Thursday!
Thank you for your visits and gracious comments. Wishing you a joy-filled day!

Gorgeous Pam! I remember having a seersucker skirt and jacket when I was in high school. Love your pretty plaid and color combination. I had to chuckle about your paper napkins and ‘tablescape police’…your secret is safe with me! 😉
Thank you Mary for keeping my secret😎stay cool!
Good morning, Pam. Such a lovely table. I well remember seersucker. Mike had a seersucker sport coat and wore it several times when we first began dating. This past winter I made new curtains for an upstairs bath from white seersucker. The fabric washes and wears like iron. Back to your table, I love everything about it. The sunflowers are wonderful, the tablecloth is so pretty and I love the placemats. Enjoy your beautiful garden and stay cool. Summer, with the heat and humidity is in full swing everywhere.
Thank you dear Sandra. I just know your white seersucker bath curtains are so pretty. Try and stay cool❤️
We’ve had a few days of heat and humidity, too, which is not fun with no AC. I’m glad it doesn’t keep you from setting a table with your lovely garden as backdrop.
Thank you Linda!
Your colorful table is festive and happy for summer. I love seersucker and have several seersucker summer robes. Two of our pastors wear seersucker suits ( one wears bow ties too) and several of the lawyers in our church do all the time. I made my daughter a skirt and vest from blue and white seersucker when she was small. Her daughter also wore it at age four. I definitely saved it because I made it. Sewing doesn’t call me.
I like the amber stemware on this table. It fits well. If you had not said the napkins were paper I would not have thought it as you always use cloth napkins. Your garden looks beautiful as a backdrop. I look forward to your garden post on Thursday.
Thanks so much Bonnie for sharing that seersucker clothing is still alive and well in the Deep South. I love your memories about the seersucker vest and skirt that you made for your daughter and then granddaughter wore it, so sweet! Try and stay cool!
I love love sunflowers too Pam, they are so happy! And seersucker is one of my favorites, my husband had a seersucker sport coat that I loved! All the elements you combined for your table are so bright, cheerful and summery! Your grasses always take my breath away, gorgeous!
Jenna
Thank you Jenna. I love that you shared about your husband’s seersucker sport coat, I know he looked so dapper wearing it! It is very hot today, stay cool!
Oh Pam, what a beautiful tablescape! The tablecloth is so refreshing and colorful (love it!). Seersucker slacks or shirts are lightweight and comfortable; a welcome relief in this heat. We still have pieces in our closet. Your sunflowers are so pretty & just make you smile when seeing them. I love your placemats! The moment I saw the napkins, I wanted to find some like them; they don’t appear to be paper in the photos (your secret is safe & perhaps I can find some also!). You have a very inviting table in your luscious garden. Have a great day! Clara
Thank you Clara. I love that readers are sharing about seersucker. It appears to still be very popular in the south. I bought the sunflower napkins at Tuesday Morning. Try to stay cool in this oppressive heat😎
Your garden is so beautiful. I would love to enjoy that pretty tablescape.
Aw, thanks so much Marty!
What a super fun table! I especially love those placemats with the baubles. They’re loads of fun. It’s all lovely — I’d be delighted to dine there any time!
And I would be delighted to have you anytime Jeanie!
Dear Pam, I have been missing these days, but I did not go to the beach … until now there was nothing in my mind! I have been busy in my houses in Madrid that have changed tenants and I always have to renew some things to maintain the good condition of the house.
Well, now I find the word “seersucker” … and I have not found a translation into Spanish. But in one of his photos he explains what it is … well, I have already admitted that it is a cloth bla..bla..bla … but there is not a word in Spanish that defines it.
Well, the seersucker tablecloth is very beautiful and summery, everything is perfectly as you always do.
A big hug
Hola Dolores, parece que has estado muy ocupado. No me di cuenta de que tenías propiedades de alquiler. Te he echado de menos y siempre me preocupa mi amigo. No pude evitar reírme de que no hay traducción para “seersucker”. Es un tejido liviano y fresco para nuestro clima cálido y húmedo en el sur de los EE. UU. Me emocionó descubrir que el mantel y los girasoles siempre me hacen sonreír. No te esfuerces demasiado … bendiciones y abrazos. Con amor pam
Love the colorful tablescape! It just says Hello Summer….AND the Sunflowers are smiling! Love me some Sunflowers!!! I remember when seersucker was the fashion icon! My mom loved that fabric…..
Thank you Nancy, I think we all loved seersucker!
I always love my seersucker outfit in high school. Straight skirt with jacket made by mom. She was an amazing seamstress. Wore it with a Peter Pan color white blouse and white low heeled pumps. I thought I was the bomb!! You have an absolutely gorgeous yard and love your tablescapes. Thanks for sharing, you are so very creative
Jeannie, your skirt and jacket sounds amazing and I am sure it was so special being made by your mom. Thank you for your sweet comments!
What a beautiful table! Sunflowers just make me happy!! Growing up in Charleston (in the days before AC), all the men wore seersucker suits to work and church. John and I have been enjoying games of gin rummy on the screen porch about 8:30 every evening. The heat of the day is gone, the sun is sinking behind the pond, and the fireflies are out in force. It’s magical!
Thanks Roxanne. Seersucker was a staple for our hot climate. Your porch sounds so lovely and magical!
How lovely. The sunflowers are beautiful.
Marion
Thanks so much Marion!
Pam as usual everything is gorgeous. I love that tablecloth. Thank You for sharing.
Marilyn
Thank you Marilyn!
How pretty, Pam! I love seersucker in summer. My Dad wore seersucker suits in summer and it is my favorite image of him. ♥
Thanks Rita. I am enjoying all the comments about seersucker!
For sure, seersucker and sunflowers go together like milk and cookies.
;-}
Ooh, milk and cookies sound great!
What a beautiful garden of a table!
Just love the placemats! The sunflower napkins are gorgeous- I don’t care if it is paper or linen!
I would prefer paper around my bunch…simply because it is better for my 4 under-12 munchkins! It is so much easier!!
The sunflowers are awesome…when my daughter was a little girl, her bedroom was done in sunflowers!
You are an inspiration as always!
It is so good to hear from you sweet friend. I hope all is well with you. Thanks so much Esther…blessings always❤️
How beautiful and inviting!Gorgeous tablecloth,so happy with the adorable sunflowers!Hugs!
Thanks Maristella! Hugs~
My Rob wore seersucker suits during Manhattan Summers…just as hot and humid …and continued to wear them when we
moved here…. such a cool look. Your tablescape is so inviting and the happy faces of the sunflowers polish off the look.
Love that photo with the sunflower poking out its head in the background of your lush garden; a joyful surprise…
Mary, apparently you lived in Manhattan. I would love more of that story and how you got to where you live now. Seersucker has been a popular topic, it seems we all have a history with the fabric❤️
What a happy table! The Sunflower is summer perfection!
Paper napkins are okay in my book! As long as they are pretty!
I had a gorgeous red and white seersucker jacket… loved it!
Happy Week to you!
Thank you my friend. It seems everyone has a seersucker memory!
Such a lovely, inviting corner, so perfect for those long summer evenings.
Amalia

Thank you dear Amalia!
Pam I don’t think seersucker ever went away….I know it is still alive and well in the Midwest…but then it seems my family and friends, still back there, are always a little behind the times….either that or they just don’t give a whit what high fashion says on the Paris runways. LOL Here in SW Florida, I see seersucker almost every day…especially at church. (I had a blue and white seersucker skirt that I adored)
As for your beautiful table…each time I see your lovely gardens I want to come and sit at your table and just enjoy the view….add to that the brightly colored table setting and you have a perfect quiet time retreat.
My eyes went immediately to the placemats…how adorable are they. I almost saw M & M’s and wanted to slowly remove them one by one, hoping you would not suspect a candy thief. LOL
Of course I would love the sunflowers as I was born in the sunflower state. They will always have a special place in my heart.
God Bless you my friend.
I have loved reading everyone’s comments about seersucker. It is perfect for our hot weather. I would love for us to be able to sit and chat, I think we could talk for hours. Blessings sweet friend❤️
Love seer sucker and this happy table. Cute placemats!
Thanks so much, Happy Wednesday!
I LOVE seersucker! As I read your post, my mind immediately went to a pretty, sky blue and white gingham type seersucker dress I wore as a teenager. It was my favorite dress in the world. I wore it with these cute, little wedge burlap sandals that were just adorable. Your beautiful tablescape just draws me in, sweet friend. I really love the tablecloth and those placements are just the best. So wonderful to visit with you today! Many blessings to you!
A perfect summer table. Love the seersucker cloth. The sunflowers are perfect. This table sitting in your garden is picture perfect. Would love to be there.
Hi Pam, You sure do bring back all sorts of memories with your use of seersucker. Your tablecloth is gorgeous and so perfect for a summer outside setting. Your beaded placemats are a sweet detail to your plaid tablecloth. And your use of sunflowers are my favorite. I am back in my high school days. Have a great summer.
Marsha, how very sweet. I enjoyed the conversations about seersucker, so many readers have fond memories of clothing made from the iconic fabric. Happy Summer!
This table just makes me smile!! Love, love, love the tablecloth!! You have created such a cheerful setting here!!
Thank you Ann. Have a wonderful weekend!
Such fun! Lovely & festive Pam!
Bless you,
Jennifer
Thank you Jennifer!
Stunning gardens and tablescape. I remember seersucker too from back in the day.
Happy summer,
Kippi
Thank you Kippi. It seems we all have a seersucker memory!
Hi Pam,
First time posting to your blog but always lurking. The seersucker brought back a fun memory and made me laugh out loud! Back in high school (1969) my BFF and I made a sleeveless dress from seersucker to show off our tans we had from the summer (we thought the boys would love this!). I’m sure no one even noticed but we thought we were so cool. haha Good memory from seersucker.
Stay cool and happy summer,
Vickie
Thank you Vickie, it is so nice to meet you. I hope it won’t be the last time you post. I read every comment and always try to reply, sometimes it takes me a couple of days. I love your high school memory of seersucker, I know you and your BFF were quite stunning in those dresses with a summer tan. Have a wonderful weekend!
