Autumn On The Kitchen Porch

October 3, 2019~ Autumn, Everyday Living, Faith

“O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭8:1‬ ‭

Happy Thursday dear friends. I was finally able to find heirloom pumpkins yesterday. The shop owner said they were very hard to get this year because so much rain hindered planting and then drought conditions ensued. I was excited to finally decorate my small kitchen porch for autumn and for Ella Mae to enjoy.

I love stacking colorful pumpkins!

Yellow pumpkins were in abundance, and I immediately was smitten.

Our temperature yesterday afternoon, October 2nd…about twenty degrees above normal!

Orange pumpkins will always speak fall!

“I would rather sit on a pumpkin and have it all to myself, than be crowded on a velvet cushion.”
-Henry David Thoreau

I have had a couple of mums to die in the heat, hopefully these on the porch will survive a few weeks!

“I can smell autumn dancing in the breeze. The sweet chill of pumpkin, and crisp sunburnt leaves.”
-Ann Drake

The wreath isn’t new, I can’t remember where or when it was found (am I getting old?)!!

No witches, goblins, or scary things for Princess Ella Mae!

RM placed a small section of picket fence against the brick…perfect for a cotton boll wreath!

Thank you for your sweet visits. Have you decorated your porches and patios, or has it been too hot? Wishing you a beautiful autumn weekend!

Oh, Pam, I love your porch – absolutely everything. I am also “smitten” with your yellow pumpkins, and also your cotton wreath. You know, cotton is special to me. I agree about the witches and goblins, I have never been overly fond of them. This heat is really something, we had 95 yesterday. Unheard of for an October day in WV. I hope your mums survive. I have not purchased any due to the heat and am worried a little about my pumpkins.
Again, your porch is just perfect! Wishing you cool autumn days – soon! 💛

Pam, A beautiful porch! I love all the colorful pumpkins. The yellow, white & green ones blend so we’ll with the traditional orange ones. Your mum’s are so pretty. It’s not surprising you’ve gone through some mums due to the heat. They bloom out so quickly in the heat it seems. I have only put out mums as it’s just so hot. I do believe we’re getting cooler weather (high 80’s) by the weekend! Yay! I must admit the heat has really affected my fall decorating. Somehow adding Fall warm colors when the heat index is hovering around 100 is not inspirational for me personally. I’ll be glad to retire the summer decorations when we have a couple of days in the 70’s. Have a wonderful day! Clara ❤️

Your Fall decor has so inspired me!! So adore the yellow pumpkins as well as the stacking of pumpkins!! Looking forward to cooler temps next week…99+ degrees here in the ‘ham is not delightful. We had some luck with our Mums we purchased from Costco and cut off the buds & Re fertilized them. Hopefully they will be full again.

Goodness, I hope the weather cools soon for everyone down there. We have had highs of 50 this week and freeze warning east of us. Your porch is my favorite this year because I don’t care for witches any time of year. I haven’t seen yellow pumpkins so will keep and eye out. Pumpkins have always made me smile and want to hug all of them. Will send a prayer up to heaven asking for Jesus to interven and send beautiful Fall weather with blue sky’s and cool temps.

Your porch looks so inviting and I can imagine how thrilled Ella Mae probably is. I haven’t seen yellow pumpkins but I haven’t been anywhere to look. I think it is great you have places to try growing pumpkins yourself. A friend of mine threw out her heirloom pumpkins and they sprouted the next season. It is worth a try if you have a sunny spot.
Since you asked about decorating I will answer honestly and that is no. It is way too hot here but I also have not been at home for several weeks. Our scrubs and lawn have taken a beating and we have irrigation. We need rain badly! I have never seen azaleas turn brown.
    Praying for rain.

Dear friend, a few days without commenting on your beautiful posts. This weekend I had my grandchildren Marcos, 10, and David, 8, because his parents had work problems. Well, David, he got sick with almost 40º C of fever… can you imagine the panorama of the weekend… a horror!
Well, calm has come to my serene life every day and here I am to admire the pumpkins and their beautiful decoration.
Autumn decoration is always beautiful because its colors are varied and beautiful. I love pumpkins with such varied colors.
He has achieved a wonderful, fun and elegant porch.
I observe the outside temperature and I am amazed … very hot !!!! Here we have good weather, but it does not rise more than 25 º C maximum per day.
Autumn begins to take things seriously and we will soon wear those clothes that I like so much for autumn.
    A hug

Will be out today (yeeks – we also are in the upper 90’s) cannot cancel or postpone what was
scheduled. I will be on the outlook for yellow pumpkins, but am still postponing the mums until the heat takes a vacation. Your porch is Autumn glory and EM will find fascination in the colors
and textures (sans the goblins and scary items -EM has class) What Halloween has become, no
longer appeals, I think. True Autumn is just what you porch is about…simply love it.

Each year we get some and after they start to fade I plant them in the flower beds-they come back each year(or most of them do). We do harvest decorating, not halloween and I love all your touches. We had some warmer than normal days, but fall is definitely here now.

My precious Daddy passed away peacefully on March 26th at the age of 94, surrounded by his beloved family! He was born during the depths of the Great Depression. That may have been part of the reason he was always content and loved the simple things.

“A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold.” Proverbs 22:1

After high school graduation he signed to play professional baseball with the Cleveland Indians Organization. His baseball career was cut short when he was drafted in the army. He was seriously wounded in the Korean War and was awarded a Purple Heart and two bronze stars. Upon returning home, he married my beautiful Mother and they shared 54 wonderful years together before she passed away suddenly.

My brother and I grew up in a Christian home, bathed in love, calm, security, and contentment, under the care of the two finest parents anyone could have. Daddy was known as Pawpaw to his three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

My heart is broken, he was the best Daddy a girl could have. I know he is present with the Lord and I rejoice in that promise, knowing too, that my Mother is also in the eternal presence of our Heavenly Father.

Welcome to Sunshine Cottage and the March edition Welcome to Sunshine Cottage and the March edition of Tea on Tuesdays. My inspiration for teatime is the beautiful linens from @april.cornell With the celebration of their 50th anniversary, many Heritage Prints from the archives have returned. Eden is one of the beautiful patterns that has returned. It is a soft purple paradise where butterflies float, roses bloom, and soft sage leaves levitate. As an April Cornell Brand Ambassador, I was gifted these gorgeous linens! I have been a collector of @april.cornell linens for many years…the floral patterns resonate with my love of English Country.

I am serving my favorite, Earl Gray tea, from an Eileen’s Reserve teapot. Teacups by Grace Teaware and vintage Rose Chintz salad plates by Johnson Brothers add more floral patterns to the mix. Japanese Magnolia blooms were cut from my garden and placed in a lilypad teapot!

Happy Monday! With March bringing the promise of s Happy Monday! With March bringing the promise of spring and looking forward to our garden awakening, I planted a blooming bulb garden in my Sunshine Cottage! The butcher block countertop under a window, was a perfect place for a mini garden. Muscari, hyacinths, tulips, and daffodils danced in the sunlight and filled the cottage with an amazing fragrance!

Happy Tuesday! Welcome to the Sunshine Cottage whe Happy Tuesday! Welcome to the Sunshine Cottage where it is warm and cozy on this cold February day. It is Tea on Tuesdays and I have set a tea table with the “Blue Roses” collection that was a collaboration between @victoriamagazine and @april.cornell The exclusive porcelain pattern and matching linens have been used many times and I still enjoy their blue and white beauty. Instead of fresh flowers, porcelain ones require no arranging. Sweet treats pair perfectly with a traditional English Breakfast tea. Happy first Monday of February! After so many cold Happy first Monday of February! After so many cold days, we are experiencing a tease of spring with a 73 degree day that is forecast. After the gray and cloudy days, I needed a dose of color and decided to set a colorful citrus themed brunch! Using a bird gold and pewter stand, I mixed a citrus medley of lemons, oranges, and limes with pink and white carnations as the centerpiece. The table is highlighted with blue and white dishware. Fresh squeezed orange juice, French-pressed coffee and sweet treats of lemon poppyseed muffins, lemon cake with lemon icing, and lemon pastries are perfect for a small brunch. A faux lemon topiary belonged to my beloved Mother and seemed a perfect addition to a citrus-themed table! You are invited to join me and my Monday Morning Blooms friends, Lidy @frenchgardenhouse Sarah @sjpa48 and Mary homeiswheretheboatsis.net by clicking the LINK in my bio!

Welcome to Sunshine Cottage where I have been fluf Welcome to Sunshine Cottage where I have been fluffing for Valentine’s Day! For many years my Sweetheart and I have celebrated February 14th at home where it is quiet, no reservations are required, and we always have a table by the window!

I love the traditional colors of red and pink! Frilly carnations fill a vintage Staffordshire, ‘Charlotte’ pitcher which rests on an antique Limoges plate with a velvet gold-crowned heart. The plate stack consists of a Royal Stafford ‘Asiatic pheasant’ dinner plate, American Atelier ‘Baroque’ luncheon/salad plate, Johnson Brothers, ‘Winchester’ salad plate, and a vintage pierced Bavarian rose plate! I am a huge fan of mixing colors, patterns, and textures for a collected look.

I have joined 17 table stylists for a Valentine’s Day Blog Hop. Click the LINK in my bio to see all of the Valentine inspiration!

Happy Tuesday! On this very cold winter’s day, I Happy Tuesday! On this very cold winter’s day, I am serving my favorite tea, Earl Grey, in the Sunshine Cottage where it is warm and cozy! The magic of dancing sunlight enhances the table that is dressed with a warm tartan plaid throw repurposed as a tablecloth! ‘Winter Fauna’ bird salad plates from Pottery Barn (many years ago and now discontinued) remind me of the birds I watch from my kitchen window during the winter season. The Grace Teaware set adds more blue and white to the Spode ‘Blue Room’ dinner plates. Sweet treats were placed on a stack of Bordallo Pinheiro plates! A darling Hummel ‘Icy Adventure’ depicts a scene of an outdoor frozen pond with a pair of sweet ice skaters, a rosy cheeked boy and girl who have fallen down on the ice.
