Shout for joy to God, all the earth; sing the glory of his name; give to him glorious praise!
Psalm 66:1-2
We are thrilled that you have joined us for the first Simple + Southern Sunday of 2015! We don’t consider this a “resolution” necessarily – but it is our goal to continue sharpening our senses to be in tune with the unique treasures that we encounter every day. It is so easy to overlook little jewels and valuable nuggets that lie in our path or nearby.
Sunrise at our house…
“…because of the tender mercy of our God, whereby the sunrise shall visit us from on high to give light to those who sit in darkness
and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.”
Luke 1:78-79
“The difference between men and boys is the price of their toys!”
We were privileged to help build this orphanage in Togo, West Africa and to support two special boys who stole our hearts! There are so many ways that we can make a difference!
This big buck did not appreciate our photo stop at the lake. Apparently bedded in the woods nearby, he found our talking disturbing. Strangely, he ran toward us and not away. He crossed the mud flats right in front of us and we watched him for probably a quarter mile!
We love to photograph churches…another one in Birmingham!
Every year Butch plants winter rye grass …I love the pattern it creates on our back walkway!
We are avid readers…new books for the new year!
A rainy and wintry start for the first day of 2015. Nearby Weiss Lake bustles with activity in the summer. But this time of year it seems to convey the message that it’s OK to rest, slow down, and take a break.
Just discovered this interesting Civil War skirmish information last week within two miles of our home. There is so much history right under our noses!!
For those who enjoy photos of barns…this one is very dilapidated!!
Even though Alabama didn’t win, cute Ryleigh and her doll are dressed in their houndstooth and crimson outfits made by Mimi, (Debbie)! Precious!!
“I was glad when they said to me,
‘Let us go to the house of the Lord!’”
Psalm 122:1

Great post and LOVE the dear and the lake shots. Just have to say (and I am sure hundred of others have noticed when visiting the historical site,) the sign contains a major typo, it’s US Cavalry (def. mounted soldiers collectively, Dictionary.com) not Calvary (the place where Jesus died.)
Pam Richardson says
Susan, thanks so much for reading and commenting and your keen eye! You are right, a serious typo. Wishing you a wonder-filled 2015! Pam
