“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path”
Psalm 119:105
Santorini is a Greek island in the southern Aegean Sea, approximately 120 miles southeast of the mainland. It is the largest island of a small archipelago that is the remnant of a volcanic caldera.
I had seen many pictures and read about the beauty of Santorini, so it was a thrill to finally see it in person!
We rode a bus up the winding and steep road until we reached the town of Fira, which is the capital of Santorini. We rode the cable car down with a panoramic view of the caldera!
Fira is perched on the edge of an impressive cliff!
Oia is considered the most picturesque village on Santorini, being famous for the magnificent sunsets and blue domed churches. This is a great view of the white washed houses and if you look closely there are two windmills in the photo!
Church of Panagia of Platsani is the central church and located in the center of town.
A view of the homes built into the edge of the cliffs! It has been described by one writer as a snow drift of white Cycladic houses lining the cliff tops and, in places, spilling like icy cornices down the terraced rock!
You often see this very picture when viewing travel sites!
Our photography did not capture the color of the sea…which is indigo…breathtaking!!
Impressive Bell Tower overlooking the sea!
The blue domes of the churches are pronounced against the white buildings!
A favorite photo
Santorini is the most visited of all the Greek islands!
I can always find time for a little shopping!
There is a gorgeous view around every corner!
Butch and I ate the best baklava at an outdoor cafe and watched the amazing sunset. Could I say…just so romantic!!!
Again we are unable to capture the moment on camera!
Santorini is one of two locations in Europe to feature a hot desert climate! Due to its unique ecology and climate, and especially its volcanic ash, Santorini is home to prized produce. Their cherry tomatoes are renowned!
We visited this Greek orthodox monastery founded in 1711. This is also the highest point on the island, located in the southeastern part.
Thank you, friends, for traveling with us!
