It is time for another installment of our “designer series”! I always enjoy putting these posts together because they show the talent and style of such great designers! Today I want to introduce you to Sarah Bartholomew! Sarah grew up in Virginia and was influenced by the classical architecture that surrounded her, especially by Thomas Jefferson….as you will soon see! She has an approachable design aesthetic that can be described as timeless, simple, classic, and all American. I, personally love her work and style…and I think you will too!

I love Sarah’s mix of pattern in her own home. The batik-style wallpaper and the leopard print runner in the entry says that this designer is not afraid of mixing it up!
The French chair wears a sweet pinafore and sits next to a chinoiserie garden stool.
The dining room walls are covered in grass cloth with panels of hand-painted de Gournay.
Beautiful shades of green in the dining room highlight the classic furnishings.
The living room, though elegant, is not stuffy. A pair of striped club chairs and a poofy footstool offer comfortable seating.
I love a center table, and paired with slipcovered French chairs, it is perfection. Stacked design books always get my attention!
The fabulous chinoiserie highboy adds more interest to this living room.
The master bedroom also has a mix of blue and green. A snow leopard print is used for headboard, bedskirt, and curtains.
The same snow leopard print with a green border covers a vanity chair.
Neutral striped sofas pair with club chairs in the family room. The touches of green are seen in pillows, wicker chairs, and plants.
I love bookcases…leather books, baskets, and art make for an interesting display!
Classic chippendale chairs, shiplap walls, and a banquette occupy the family breakfast area.
Marble counters and Shaker cabinets work beautifully in the light-filled kitchen.
This laundry photo has been seen all over blog land…with the climbing hydrangea wallpaper and lovely plants, who wouldn’t enjoy doing laundry?!!
The powder room is not bashful with its green lattice wallpaper and matching trim! I love drama in a powder room!
The blue and white palette with the accents of green continue in this bedroom with matching twin beds!
The floral sofa sits opposite the beds. Even though she uses pattern, her rooms are clean and crisp!
We have left her home to show you a few of the lovely rooms she has designed for her clients. Wood paneled walls with her signature blue/white/green make this room so warm and inviting!
The coffee tables adds a Neo-classic element.
This bedroom has a fun vibe, classic but not too serious!
Love this mix of pattern on the headboard and pillows!
The designer uses wallpaper often…in case you haven’t noticed, it has made a huge comeback. I promised myself years ago I would never wallpaper again, but I have been known to change my mind!
French bistro style bar stools add that je ne sai quoi to the kitchen!
A pleasing neutral palette for this space
A very calming and serene bedroom
What I love about Sarah Bartholomew is she learned from visits to Monticello, Mount Vernon, and from studying at the University of Virginia where she was surrounded by classical design with its rotunda, pavilions, and serpentine walls. Then she taught herself by studying the works of some of the great designers like Albert Hadley, Oscar de la Renta, Bunny Williams, and Hubert de Givenchy. I think her research and study has served her well. Her version of traditional style with crisp colors and patterns will be timeless.

It’s always interesting to see how others express their creativity. As much as I like mixing things up, some of this is too much for me.
Linda, I do love the creative process and enjoy when someone dares to color outside the lines! Happy Thursday!
Such beautiful rooms! I think the living room is my favorite…how pretty! Thanks for sharing all the beautiful inspiration! I hope that you have a happy and blessed day!
Thanks sweet Shannon, happy Thursday!
Beautiful rooms and fun to view and contemplate. I’m off to find something I have and use the pics reminded me of.
You have that je ne sais quoi too. You can put more in one or two sentences than anybody I know.
Have a great day.
Thanks so much, sweet friend! Have a wonderful Thursday!
Oh happy pattern lover, she is my new favorite Pam! LOVE the way she’s not afraid to liven up the traditional and classic! Wonderful colors, thank you!
Jenna
Jenna, I love the way she mixes it up!
Her love for color makes her rooms very exciting – yet clean, like you pointed out. Seeing these beautiful rooms inspires me to clean out, form a huge donation pile, and start fresh with white walls. I love blue and green, together, separate, and with a little red or yellow splashed in! Thanks for sharing this talented designer, Pam.
Kim, I like ve the blue and green combo as well!
Beautiful and classic. Exquisite! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Valerie…Happy Weekend!
Some of it I like, some of it, eh, not so much, but I’d never heard of Sarah before, so I’m glad you filled me in!
Leslie Anne, thanks and Happy Weekend!
I so admire this Designer …
She creates beautiful spaces . She is not timid to mix and match in any theme of decorating , but somehow she magically blends and creates gorgeous spaces ! I am able to learn a design element from each of her rooms . Although I love to see a calming , neutral space … I must have some color in my life !
I also appreciate that she is not afraid to use wallpaper !
I would enjoy seeing more of her talent .
Christine, I so agree…I have to live in color! Neutrals are always beautiful and calming, but color and pattern is just my preferred style!
I visited Sarah’s website for more inspiration and some “close up” photos . She may be my new favorite Designer !
Christine, I am so glad you enjoyed the blog and it created interest for you! Happy weekend!
I could never opt for all of that wild wallpaper but it feels so good to see color and pattern. That’s always what I love. 🙂
She is definitely bold in her color and pattern selections!
Her design is gorgeous! Love the blues and whites.
Thanks so much, Carol
