“Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord:
though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow;
though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool”
Isaiah 1:18

And guess what?! It is in our forecast for this weekend! For parts of the country where snow is common during the winter months, the words “wintry mix” would be no big deal. But for us southerners, we take no chances and raid the nearest grocery store for the two essentials: milk and bread! Since snow is such a rarity for us, it’s not uncommon for schools and businesses to shut down and for time to stand still! In hopeful preparation of a weekend of winter weather, I wanted to share with you all what a snow day might look like for me here in the Appalachian foothills!
We always love our view, but there’s just something about the winter snow that brings a calm!
There’s always the chance that we will lose power when it snows and accumulates…so a french press is a must for this coffee lovin’ girl!
The photo opps are endless when the white stuff covers the ground! This was taken two years ago in our downtown area where the train tracks cross over the Coosa River!
Every snow day calls for a big plate of comfort…chicken pot pie!
Next to the fire with my sweetheart is where I want to be on a cold wintry day!
Grilled cheese and tomato soup are the perfect combo!
We will all want to have this recipe handy…is there anything better than real snowcream?!
Our downtown area was picture perfect when the snow fell a few years ago! Doesn’t it look so peaceful and timeless? Almost like a postcard!
Anyone know who this is?
If you said James Spann, you are correct! Even Spann the man grabs his milk and bread when he predicts wintry weather! Who knows about James Spann and his suspenders?
A big cup of hot chocolate is a must!
I sure do hope our weather forecast is right! Does it snow often where you live? What are some of your snowy day activities or traditions?

Unfortunately, snow is rare in northeast Florida. But having lived in the north many years, I miss the beauty of it.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Nancy, of course, it is pretty rare here! But, occasionally it is fun! Have a wonderful Thursday!
Alice says
Pam I’m in Boulder, Co and the high today is 9 degrees with snow falling since early yesterday morning. Looks like we have 10 to 12 inches at the time. The snow is suppose to stop by noon. Our 12 pound Cavalier King Charles spaniel doesn’t like it so my hubby goes outside and shovels paths for him to go potty. It’s pretty as it falls but so dangerous for those who have to go out into it. It’s currently just about zero so I’m by the fireplace staying warm and thinks Of a big cup of coffee. Hope you get enough snow to enjoy and no power outages.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Alice, I know where you live it is dangerous and hard to deal with. We have been in Colorado many times and dealt with white-outs and conditions we weren’t accustomed to. If we get any significant amount, everything here shuts down. I guess every part of the country has weather to deal with. We deal with tornadoes yearly and a recent drought. Please stay warm and safe, and keep your sweet dog warm! Happy Thursday!
Rita C. (Panoply) says
Ugh, I am not a lover of snow, even though we are accustomed to getting it in winter months. We are predicted to get around 4″tonight. My thoughts turn to my [adult] kids working and driving and in it (texting messages of safety), home maintenance issues (sweep the brick rowlock on the steps and walk before anyone walks on it and it freezes), and sunroom weight of snow (turn up the heat). I prefer viewing snow from a distance or traveling to be submerged in it (after the danger of travel subsides). It is pretty to see in the garden, I admit! Enjoy your southern blizzard. 😉
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Rita, I know snow is horrible for so much of our country. I guess no matter where we live, we all deal with weather issues. Ours in the Deep South is tornadoes, we had tornado warnings last week. Happy Thursday!

Snow is rarely part of life in Houston, and when the white stuff does fall it completely shuts this town down. While I prefer not to live where snow is common, I do enjoy a few days of it and try to make that happen every year.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
A few days of snow is perfect, Linda!
Gary Jo Ann Hodges says
Just seems like we are there already reading your blog. ❤
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Jo Ann, do you have your bread and milk? ???
Gena says
I love the snow! Here in Canton, GA, we’re supposed to get 1-3″ and I hope they’re right. It cracked me up this morning, though, when WSB called this “Preparation Day”. Enjoy your snow!! I’m headed to the grocery store after lunch. ??❄️❄️
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Gena, we are supposed to get up to 3″. We know that will close most everything! Enjoy and stay warm!
the Painted Apron says
Go away snow!! Not a fan! We’re in town until after the Bama game, but I wish we were heading south today! James Spann was tweeting yesterday that we could get 3 inches, so I’m sure that will shut everything down. We already had to cancel a dinner party Friday night, boo, but my grandsons are waxing the sled in excitement…always interesting when snow is in the forecast. Your photos are gorgeous and aren’t you smart to have a french press! Let’s hope we get enough to be pretty for a few hours but not enough to endanger anyone!
Jenna
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Jenna, they have already closed schools here for tomorrow! I love to see it for a day or two, then I am over it completely! But, we have bread and milk, but we always do!
Karen says
I hope you get just enough snow to made it pretty. There is something magical about snow and it makes everything beautiful but I’m happy that I’m not dealing with it on a daily basis anymore…shoveling, snow blogging, etc. After we had over a 100 inches of snow 2 years ago, we said “goodbye” to New Hampshire and moved to Florida.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Karen, I wouldn’t want to have to deal with snow all winter, either. They have already closed schools for tomorrow, and we may or may not get snow. We get panicky here with just the mention of it!
Karen says
The kids always look forward to snow days. If the weather was bad enough to close the schools that meant that I stayed in as well. 😀

Loving your coffee set up! Oh I wish we could have just a tad of snow but very unlikely in Florida. Awe…nothing like sitting in front of the fire with your feetsies propped up. I love it! Happy New Year Dear Pam. Hugs and blessings, Cindy
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Happy New Year to you sweet, Cindy!!

Your snow-covered arbor picture is a wonderful welcome to winter! I don’t know if we’ll actually have snow, but the possibility gives me hope! I’ve always loved going through Gadsden (any time of year) because it has that quaint small-town feel we all love to see on a Christmas card – light posts and all! I hope you get plenty of snow, time for hot chocolate, and fire-side snuggles. 🙂 Fingers crossed!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Kim, they have all ready closed schools here tomorrow and who knows of the snow will materialize. Stay warm!
Pat Monteith says
Pam, I had to chuckle reading your post. We are anticipating 2-4″ in South Carolina and are so excited! Already been to the grocery store so ready to be locked in! Be safe and enjoy?
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Pat, it is Friday evening and the snow has just started falling. Stay warm and safe!
Deb @ Frugal Little Bungalow says
LOL Pam as far as stocking up it is the same up here in the North and you forgot to check and make sure that you had enough toilet paper to survive 🙂
Pam @ Everyday Living says
LOL, Deb we always stock ample toilet tissue!

Snowcream! Thanks for posting this recipe, Pam! Its one of my favorite childhood memories. My mom made the best and since she died when I was young, I never knew her recipe. If we get snow [which it sounds like we definitely will] in the Atlanta area, I am definitely trying your recipe. Thanks for sharing the lovely photos too! Stay warm!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Faith, it only started snowing about an hour ago 6:30 central time). So I am sure you will get some a little later. Stay warm and safe!
marmeladegypsy says
Be careful out there! I hate winter driving — and I live in Michigan where we have a lot of it! But you’re right — it’s the ultimate pot pie weather! Stock up and huddle in with good books, hot cocoa and some nice wine!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks Jeanie, have the books and the hot cocoa!

Living in N FL we don’t get snow, we have before but maybe every ten years. I do believe that Atlanta will get snow over the weekend and we are four hours south of Atlanta. We will get a blast of cold air but no snow. Your pics of the snow are breathtaking. The pic with your hot chocolate, the two cookbooks are two of my favorite books, love Frank Stitt. I enjoyed your post.

I am a lover of all the seasons and have always felt that if it must be cold, we might as well have a beautiful, magical dusting of snow (note that I said dusting, not blizzard depths lol!).We got our first real snow last night–everything looks so beautiful, especially with me inside all cozy and warm by the fire. I live in SE PA now but once spent 26 years in central FL and so missed the beauty of the changing seasons of my youth–so happy to live amongst these glorious rolling hills that look especially lovely in autumn and covered with snow. Hope you get your dusting.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Bobbi, always love hearing from you. We only got a little snow, but 60 miles south of us in Birmingham, they probably received three plus inches. Enjoy yours and stay warm. Blessings
Joanne Rawson says
We’re getting buried today… I think we have more than 6″ so far and it’s not supposed to stop for a few more hours. Depending on the type of snow we like to go sledding, make snowmen, warm up by the fire and eat comfort foods like mashed potatoes and meatloaf (we had chicken pot pie this Wednesday). Though I’ll fully admit that we went to the grocery store in the middle of the storm today to pick up the fixings for a salad; luckily us northerners don’t have to hit up the grocery store for milk and bread. The plows are well used to keeping up.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Joanne, sounds like you definitely got snow. As it turned out, we got a few teaspoonfuls at our house but it has been so cold over the weekend! Enjoy your snow and stay warm!
Roseann Hampton says
Love looking at your snow pictures! We rarely get any here in southeast Texas!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much, Roseann! We only got a little dusting on Friday night!

I love a love/hate relationship with snow….I love the beauty of it…how it blankets everything with pure white delight..then again, we experience ice conditions here when it snows and it keeps up sequestered for days…you know the cabin fever thing!…..Love the pics and you had me at grilled cheese and tomato soup!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Shirley, we are warming up today and supposed to have rain. Birmingham had a lot of ice, but we didn’t! Stay safe!
Carole @ From My Carolina Home says
Still snowed into my mountain home, today is day four, and I may be able to get out tomorrow if it warms up enough today to melt the driveway. I don’t mind, I have a full pantry, a generator in case the power goes out, and lots of time to create and play.
Chloe Crabtree says
I love all of the snow pictures! I live in Florida now, so I don’t get this often, but I am up in Ohio this weekend at a condominium we have up here and have enjoyed seeing the ice on Lake Erie. I am so fortunate to get to peek at it now and then, but I don’t really need to shovel it! Thanks so much for sharing at Celebrate Your Story!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Chloe, I love to see snow about once a year and that is enough for me. We usually get snow once or twice, but usually no more than a couple of inches.
Debrashoppeno5 says
I loved looking at your pictures but I don’t miss the snow. I moved to Florida before I learned to drive so I have never even driven in snow. I will look at your pictures if I start missing it.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Debra, fortunately we very rarely see snow, but is certainly fun to enjoy occasionally!
Jann Olson says
Yup, we can get lots of snow here in UT. One of our states slogan’s is, “The greatest snow on earth”. I love curling up by the fire and hunkering down. But snow does not slow us down. The plows get out and we do too! 🙂 Thanks for sharing with SYC.
hugs,
Jann
