“Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom.”
James 3:13
Well, hello February…you sure snuck in on us! So far, we have had very little winter in our Appalachian Foothills. We had a few days here and there, but I wouldn’t say it has been a normal winter for us!
By now you know I don’t move things around in my home very often….but it hasn’t always been that way! As a matter of fact, when we first married Butch never knew where his chair might be! It was almost like a game…and after many years of that, let’s just say I got tired so I stopped! These days I rarely move furniture, but I do enjoy moving a few accessories just to enjoy them in a more prominent place! One of the things I like to change up a bit is my coffee table…adding a little something here, some fresh flowers there! So today, I’m sharing our simple winter coffee table with you! You’ll notice a bronze sculpture that I have had at least fifteen years as the focal point…it remains one of my favorite pieces! I will enjoy it for a few weeks and then return it to its home. It is extremely heavy, so moving it is a chore! It’s a fun piece and I just love the children at play!
The bronze sculpture features five children holding hands, notice the middle child is much smaller and they have her suspended in the air. Do you remember the carefree days of childhood? So many children no longer play outdoors…they are glued to video games and electronic devices! I remember playing hide-and-seek, mother may I, hopscotch, red rover…who needed toys?!
Children jumping and skipping…such simple play! The cast bronze sculpture rests on a piece of marble. Combining cast bronze and marble means weight for sure!
Fresh flowers are usually found in our home…cut from the garden in spring and summer, from the grocery store in winter. Spray roses in a peachy-melon hue satisfy my well-known love of color!
Ordinarily, I have something sweet and yummy on my coffee table…today, it is dry roasted almonds…Whole 30 is our February plan!

Our coffee table is never without books to read or just peruse. A cup of Earl Grey tea is a simple afternoon pleasure.

Are you familiar with the Whole 30 diet plan? Have you ever tried it? I would love to hear your stories, recipes, tips, etc if so! We are trying the plan to help relieve inflammation of joints and to reset and cleanse our systems. I will let you know if we see a significant change in how we feel!
Thank you for joining me at coffee table talk…I am so sorry I couldn’t offer pistachio macarons or red-velvet brownies, maybe next time!
What about you…what is on your coffee table today? I would love to know!

Hi Pam, loving your coffee talk. The children at play are adorable. There something special about fresh flowers in the house and also enjoying a lovely cup of tea or coffee. I haven’t heard of the Whole 30 diet plan. Good luck and be sure to let us know how it works.
Thanks so much, Linda. Will definitely blog about the Whole 30 diet. Happy Thursday!
I love the children at play. Gorgeous. Your room is lovely too. I can’t seem to get my creative juices flowing for my coffee tables in the living room and family room. They are kind of blah right now. Thanks for your inspiration.
Thanks so much, Nancy. I understand how difficult it can be to be get the creative juices going. Wishing you a wonderful Thursday!
Such a cute statue, a reason to smile as you sit, for sure. I always have large books on our old tool chest/coffee table and a candle or something small. Not much fits on top of the chest. I didn’t hear of Whole 30 until you mentioned it yesterday in a comment. I hope you get good results and reduce that inflamation! If it works, let me know. “Arther” and I will thank you. I hope your Thursday is a fun one! 🙂
Thanks so much, Kim…I really like my coffee table to be functional. Butch decided to give Whole 30 a try to see if it would help his arthritis, which has suddenly flared a couple of months ago. He has been a runner for 35 years and he hasn’t been able to run, so hopefully this will help. I will let you know, happy Thursday!
Pam,
I so enjoy your blog! I am in love with your statue. I would love to buy one. Is there a mark on it that would help me find it? Thanks so much!
Patricia, thanks so much for your kind words. The sculpture has no markings, I looked to make sure…wishing you a happy weekend!
What a wonderful statue Pam, it captures the joy of childhood so perfectly! I used to move the furniture around all the time too, my husband would tell people he had to look before he sat down to make sure something was there 🙂 These days I finally have things exactly the way I want them and feed my redecorating urge with changing out pillows and accessories. Your coffee table is so welcoming with the beautiful books, fresh flowers and almonds, what a great place for a spot of tea! I haven’t tried the whole 30, but we have been eating lean since the holidays. Can’t wait to hear more about it!
Thanks Jenna. I agree with you, I change the small stuff, so much easier. We have made it through day 5 of the Whole 30 diet. We are hoping to see results with allergies and inflammation. I will let you know…Happy Weekend!
Pam, you styled your beautiful coffee table perfectly. I am swooning over your gorgeous living room. It looks like it belongs in a magazine. I adore all the wonderful color and pattern. It looks like such a warm and happy place. I haven’t tried the whole 30, but I have been trying to eat healthier. It is hard with kids though. I like to bake for them, and that is my weakness. I hope that you have a beautiful and blessed day!!!
Shannon, thanks so much. With children, it does make it harder and baking is so much fun. We are hoping for good results…Happy Weekend!
Your comments about the children remind me of how much energy I and then my girls expended playing not games on a screen but outside where so many fun activities were invented. Guess that dates me.
Our son played outside all day and he and my hubby still spend so much time outdoors!
Your statue is.beautiful. I too have a round coffee table. They are more of a challenge to style but we have had ours for 43 years and don’t plan to replace it. Age and mobility have curbed my interest in moving furniture so I am content with a number of key surfaces that I find much joy in changing frequently. My table always has books (they are everywhere in my home) three small crystal spheres that have a sentimental value a marble box and a candle. Always flowers in summer. You have a beautiful style full of colour looks happy from where I sit. Blessings
Jacqueline, round coffee tables can be somewhat of a challenge. We also have books everywhere, your display sounds beautiful and thanks for sharing with me! Happy weekend!
Today the coffee table is done in blue and white. Who knows what it will be next week! Love all the color in your home and how it blends so beautifully. As a child we, my sister and I, were outside all day long climbing trees, making doll houses and decorating them, riding our bike, singing, singing, singing. We slept together and every night we would sing ourselves to sleep. She sang soprano and I sang alto. We lived across the road, out in the country, from the church we attended and every time the doors were open we were part of whatever was going on. The organist would practice on Saturday afternoons and we would go over and listen. She played beautifully and one of her favorite pieces was Danny Boy. She would play that every now and then during the collection and people would tear up it was so pretty. Me too! Thanks for this post and letting me go down memory lane.
Alice, I always think blue and white works, it is a favorite of mine. Thanks for sharing your beautiful childhood memories…sounds so familiar. I play piano and organ…music has been a major part of our lives. Danny Boy is a beautiful melody! Happy weekend!
Dolores
How lovely is your coffee table. Everyhting looks so cosy at your place!
Thanks so much, Cristina!
My childhood play was very much like yours. We would be outside until dark and it was so much fun.
Your sculpture of the children playing is lovely and I believe is an original art piece. You’ll have to tell us it’s story sometime. It was fun to see other views of your pretty room too.
Your flowers are so pretty and made me smile. I adore any fresh flowers. I would certainly enjoy having a cup of tea with you around your coffee table and there would not be a lull in the conversation.
I would like to know more about the Whole 30 diet.
Bonnie, thanks sweet friend! It would be wonderful to spend time sharing tea and conversation. We must do lunch again in the near future. I will be sharing the results on the Whole 30! Happy Weekend!
Ps Pam I can attest to the removal of all processed food, gluten, diary, oats, soy as I’ve been on this detox for eight months. At Christmas I cheated once with beef Wellington and a day later I couldn’t move my shoulder because of the inflammation. Took about four days to get movement without pain again. Gluten was the culprit. I am on this because of an overactive thyroid and the fact that I can’t take the drugs to slow it down, guess what? The detox has done its job and The thyroid has calmed down. Good luck !
Alice, thanks so much for sharing about you detox and how it has affected your health. We are hoping for good results…my husband and I both have allergies and Butch is dealing with lots of pain with inflammation. You have encouraged us greatly! Blessings~
My blog is on the fritz and driving me crazy, so I’m just now catching up with you. First of all, I’ve always loved the look of orange roses. So pretty! Your children remind me of the “Puddle Jumpers” sculpture at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival in Montgomery. It’s very much like your sculpture, only life-sized. We stopped there once and our dog growled at it! The bowl of nuts on the table made me laugh because with a Beagle in the house, no food can be left lower than shoulder level! I can just see Lois Lane standing in the middle of your table now! Aaagghhhhh!!!!
Leslie Anne, I would love to see the life size “Puddle Jumpers”!
Pam, I always love seeing your blog, all the colors and fun stuff. I remember the outside games very well in our little neighborhood growing up and playing outside till dark. Those were the good ole days. Love and hugs!
Thanks so much, Lynn…we had a perfect little place to grow up! ❤
Love the statue….yes the kids now don’t know how to play & enjoy life. I love how your room is decorated! Love, love all the color!!!! Very pretty!
Thanks so much, Nancy! I have a thing for color…Happy Weekend!
This bronze is so very beautiful. Just makes me happy looking at it. Lovely series of photos.
Thanks so much, Jeanie!
I love that bronze sculpture…reminds me of my siblings…there are 5 of us…4 girls and 1 boy….I had to look closely to see the gender…If there was just the one boy, then I would have to have that sculpture. Yes, kids are not at play these days…they are fixed to their devices. Pretty table Pam!
Shirley, I didn’t realize your had 4 siblings…how wonderful! Thanks sweet friend!
Pam, I just think you have the prettiest home. I love the way you mix and match patterns. That blue chair, the leopard carpet, and the green couch all work together so well. Love the little statue! Children at play are so precious and the sculpture is a great reminder.
We’ve never done Whole 30 but I keep reading about it. We are currently doing WW trying to lose a few pounds. The structure of Weight Watchers works well for us. 🙂
Stacey, thank you so much for such kind comments. Weight Watchers has worked for me several times and I think it is a program you can live on. We are hoping Whole 30 will have health benefits… we will wait and see! Have a wonderful week!
Such a sweet sculpture. And the colors and patterns in your room are beautiful!
You are too sweet, Julie! Wishing you a wonder-filled day!
Love the statue of the children playing
Thanks so much, Carol…have a wonderful week!
Your coffee table looks beautiful. Your sofa is the it color this year! I have been pinning green sofas for a while. I haven’t looked at Whole 30 but Terry Whals MD has a plan (called The Whals Protocol) that does reduce inflammation. She was in a wheelchair with MS and now she runs marathons. She did it all by changing what she eats. I follow that pretty close but I do add white potatoes and sometimes beans. You have to have some carbs to make your hormones work. Dr. Whals stays in a state of ketosis and I don’t have a medical reason to do that but she does it for her MS. Diet is everything. Thanks for sharing at Home Sweet Home!
Sherry, that is amazing about her MS. What we put in our bodies nutritionally makes a difference!
When we were first married I used to move the furniture around quite often. By the time we reached our 20th anniversary I became very content with where it was. During those days our kids played outside all of the time. Your children at play sculpture reminded me of those days. My tween granddaughter rarely goes outside because she’s glued to her phone and tablet. The times they are a changing! Thank you for sharing with us this week at Celebrate Your Story, have a great week.
Thanks for your sweet comments, Sandra!
The bronze is gorgeous! I bet it is very heavy. I think we spent our entire summer outdoors. I know that a lot of kids hardly go out now days. Thankfully most of my grands are very outdoorsy. I’m thankful for that. I’m looking forward to hearing about the diet. Hubby and I are trying to eat healthier, but we both love sweets! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
hugs,
Jann
Jann, we also love sweets…I will be reporting on the diet!
Love your statue and room. Looks beautiful. I love the coloring on the bronze as it truly brings it to life. As an educator, I’d love that statue! Thanks for sharing and if you find out where to get something similar, please do share.
