“You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”
Psalms 16:11
It seems like our nation, our world has been struck with tragedy after tragedy. I am praying for all of you who may be in harm’s way of Irma or the wildfires that are blazing out west. My prayer is that you all find comfort in knowing that our God calms the raging seas and that He alone is the All Consuming Fire. Very close friends of mine are on Sint Maarten and were unable to get a flight out. The island was hit with the full category 5 force yesterday morning. As I am writing this, I have no word from them…I continue to pray for their safety and for the safety of all.
With all the disasters and human tragedy that is occurring, blogging about home and garden may seem unimportant and insensitive…but it is my hope that it will be a little bright spot in your day. Today’s vignette is simple, but it reminds us that autumn is soon to arrive! I had not planned to make a change on the hand-painted chest in my foyer for a few weeks, but on Tuesday afternoon, subtle hints of autumn just seemed to fit!
I gathered a few things that I had on hand to make a September vignette in my foyer!
Sweet vases of dahlias, hydrangeas and coleus were left over from Tablescape Tuesday, so why not use one!
I love a candle nestled in coffee beans, especially in autumn! I found a bag of mini pumpkins at TJ Maxx a couple of weeks ago, and placed three of them on books to add texture along with a magnifying glass. Books are in abundance at my house, and I not only enjoying reading them, but I love to use them for decorating.
An Italian bowl holds apples and some dried sunflowers!
A pair of vintage Raymond Waites lamps for Tyndale are most often on the chest in the foyer.
I draped a silk scarf under the books to soften the look.
The glow of a candle with its autumn scent is a perfect welcome!
Are you decorating for fall with a few subtle hints, or have you gone into full autumnal mode?? Thank you sweet friends for your visits!

Pam, that’s so pretty. It was the scarf that grabbed my immediate attention – love the texture combination and colors of that -perfect for the setting!
It’s already been a long week watching the wrath of fire and water unfold and envelop our coasts. Your words of prayer in the opening paragraph are powerful. I do hope you hear from your friends soon. I know the Princess Juliana airport in St Maarten was destroyed. 🙁

We had a cold front come through yesterday, just right to get some pumpkins out for autumn decorating. I put out some of my table runners in fall colors and a few ceramic pumpkins and silk leaves.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Carole, I still haven’t taken my fall decor out of their storage boxes, I have lots of work to get done!

Pam, your powerful prayer was a balm to me. Yes, it is God who calms the raging seas and He is the All Consuming Fire. I, for one, really needed to hear this message of hope and deliverance. Together with your beautiful post, it lifted me up. I am praying for your friends and all those in danger’s way. Thank you for your unwavering courage, faith and love. Dianne

With all the hate being spewed in our nation, could it be our Lord and Savior sending these tragedies to get our nations’ attention as we know He is in control of nature? I am praying for the safety of His children.

I love all you put together for your subtle hints! The lamps are wonderful, and the scarf is, too. I’m praying for your friends in St. Maartin. I pray you hear from them soon and with good news! It does seem trivial to be fussing about our homes and decorating them for fall, but it’s the one thing we can control and ministers to our family. If you’ve got cooler temps today like we do, I know you’re outside enjoying it! Happy Thursday! 🙂
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks Kim, we have had two very cold days here!

Pam: As always a most beautiful post. Even though it is hard for all of us, it is in such times as these that we must be sure to see and enjoy the beauty around us.
Everything in this post was lovely. Although, as with all your post, I always have a favorite. Today it is your wonderful vintage lamps – oh they are wonderful !

Not ready for fall just yet, but welcoming the tiny cooler temps in the morning. We’ll probably get lots of rai from the storm, but not nearly the deluge Florida will receive. It’s nice to have pretty distractions like your vignette to enjoy and distract for a moment. There’s always beauty around if we take a moment to find it. Keep us posted on your friends. Praying for their safety along with all those in harms way.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
My friends are safe but still not home. They were picked up on Sunday by a Royal Caribbean ship and taken to Curaçao, but they have not been able to get a flight back to the states, hopefully Thursday!

The fall vignette is so intriguing. I love all of the textures and colors going on. Your ornate mirror and chest make it all so very elegant and yet very homey and welcoming. Your lamps are so unique but go so well with your chest, mirror and vignette items. The fresh flowers, fruit and books are such a lovely touch. Beautiful!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks for your sweet comments, Marsha! Have a great week!

It looks beautiful, Pam. The beginning of your post and the beginning of mine are very similar…it was difficult to decide whether to post or not considering all of the devastation that is going on. I guess we both decided to share something pretty, albeit yours is subtle while mine is “all out Fall!”
Warm hugs,
Carol
