“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28
I know I have said it many times, but I am so glad that it’s finally fall! I have seen a few pictures on Instagram of fall foliage in the northern states, and that means those beautiful colors will be bursting around our Appalachian foothills really soon! But that’s not all I love about this season…there are so many reasons why! Today we will be taking a look at 5 fabulous reasons why fall is my favorite! You may want to grab a cup of coffee or tea and have a seat…there are a lot of pictures coming your way!
The autumn skies are the prettiest! In the fall, you’ll see everything from cobalt blue…
…to the unbelievable and breathtaking colors of a sunset…
…to a brilliant cloudless sky…
…to an amazing orange sky!
What’s not to love about a short drive to enjoy all of the beauty that fall has to offer? The colors of the leaves are unbelievable in places!
You’ll see fields of white cotton and occasionally an unexpected gift of a rainbow painted on the sky!
Reflections of beautiful fall color surrounding an old boat house!
A roadside stop with a view of a rushing waterfall!
The splendid autumn palette of orange, gold, and red leaves are found only a short drive from home!
Nothing tops Christmas decorating, but fall is a very close second! My small front porch is dressed for autumn!
A vignette of pumpkins, shed antlers, and majolica warms up my family room on an autumn day!
A bountiful vignette!
My kitchen porch is always graced with its fair share of pumpkins! Heirlooms are gorgeous, but I still love a traditional orange pumpkin!
With the arrival of fall comes its fabulous food flavors! A creative dish of oxtail ragout, butternut squash agnolotti, roasted vegetables and green apples!
A risotto of gulf shrimp, butternut squash, and mushrooms!
Pasta with pumpkin, sage, and hazelnuts!
And of course, a pumpkin spice latte!
We are blessed with pecan trees in our area and the nuts fall from the trees during autumn, a warm slice of pecan pie with a scoop of ice cream is the perfect fall dessert!
Asheville, NC is a great place to explore anytime, but especially in autumn. We had a lovely few days at the historic Grove Park Inn and although it rained for two days, it was nice to rest and relax!
Old Edwards Inn in Highlands is a favorite of ours. Since I have an October birthday, we have made a couple of trips in the fall to celebrate….their spa is amazing!
Last year we took a trip to New England which included a stay at the truly remarkable Charlotte’s Inn on Martha’s Vineyard. We were welcomed as family…I would love to return someday!
Remember when I took you for a walk to see all the historic homes in Edgartown?!
We spent a rainy day on Nantucket, but it didn’t dampen our spirits! Brant Point Light was beautiful in the mist and fog!
Boston is rich in history and we loved our three days walking the city and seeing the Federal-style homes on Beacon Hill! We are making a fall trip to Aspen this year…stay tuned for upcoming posts!
What about you, is there a favorite drive, food, decor, or trip! Please share with me! As always, thank you for your sweet visits!

I’m not holding my breath for a spectacularly colorful fall just yet, since it’s been so warm and dry. A little rain last weekend had a lot of leaves falling, just because they were so crispy. We’re heading out for a couple days elsewhere in the state to try to capture the essence, hoping rain holds off and we get to enjoy some of the glory you’ve captured in your photos. Looking forward to traveling Aspen with you, vicariously. That risotto looks delish!

Hope you are enjoying your get-away and are finding fall color!

Today we are heading to the north of Maine where we will enjoy some spectacular views. Like you I love the richness of sunsets this time of year and all the things that make me feel warm and cozy. It’s a wonderful world we are lucky to experience.

You’re so right…Fall decorating runs a VERY close second to Christmas decorating! And Fall is just my favorite time of year hands down. You named exactly the features I love most about it! I’m always excited about it!

Thank you so much Alycia!

Your home is decorated beautifully. You have captured fall at its best with its boundless beauty. You have taken us to some amazing spots, two of which are my favorites also. Living in Asheville, I don’t have to travel far to enjoy both the Grove Park and Highlands. I am craving a day or two at Old Edwards Inn. Charlotte’s Inn is now on my list. Bob and I are going to Chatanooga this weekend for Davis’ regatta. Lookout Mtn. should provide some pretty foliage. Enjoy Aspen. Happy Birthday to a very special person!!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Joy, I hope your weekend is going wonderfully with lots of autumn color! Blessings~

Pam, this is a beautiful post. Fall’s bounty is so plentiful, and you capture it so well. BTW, I just cooked three recipes from Southern Lady’s October issue. The Parmesan Roasted Cauliflower was a major hit. The pumpkin dressing in Arugula-Radicchio Salad with Creamy Pumpkin Dressing is yummy, and the Maple-Orange Mashed Sweet Potatoes are a nice change from my usual sweet potatoes.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks my friend! Sounds like you are entertaining with all those wonderful recipes!

I SO agree that Fall decorating is almost a tie for me with Christmas! It is my favorite season but it has been so warm here this year. TODAY is chilly then the weekend will go back to the mid 80’s again. Mother Nature seems to be cranky:):) LOVE your posts! Wish so much my hubby liked to travel like this. It is like pulling teth to get him out of the house:(

I’m always amazed by the fall colors. I think the color palette is the most varied of all the other seasons of the year. I do not understand why some people say that autumn is sad …
And I also make the same reflection when I observe the beauty of our home that is the Earth: “If there are aliens there is no doubt that they should be totally surprised by the beauty of our planet,” possibly blessed by God.
Spectacular pictures, your very beautiful porch.

Dolores, es preciosa en Aspen Colorado ahora mismo. ¡Los álamos están vivos con el color dorado! ¡Pensamos que sería demasiado tarde en la temporada para los vivos colores otoñales! ¡Feliz sábado querido amigo!

My son and his friends just spent time in a cabin in Ashville and he loved it and got so many great photos. All I can think about is shrimp risotto! Mmmmm!

I do enjoy your kitchen porch so much! Those lined pumpkins up the steps is a wonderful, unified look. Your front porch is just as adorable. I love that pumpkin wreath! The beautiful skies and rainbows are breath-taking this time of year. The colors that some areas get to experience cause me to envy! I agree with your five favorites, Pam. I hope you’ve had a glorious week!

Thank you Kim! I am seeing unexpected color in the Rocky Mountains! I thought it would be too late!

Your photos and fall favorites are just beautiful Pam! They would make beautiful notecards or pages for a autumn calendar!

Notecards would be a fun idea! Maybe, I should do that!

I wish I could borrow you for a week (or more) at my house here in Arkansas for a re-decoration party. My talent is very limited, as in nil, when it comes to decorating. Oh well, I’ll get it done someday. Blessings to you. Belinda

Your pictures are incredible! I love all those same things, but we don’t happen to live where we get all of that Fall beauty. We are desert rats here in the AZ desert, but an hour or two north of us, we can be reminded of Fall’s glorious beauty in Prescott, Sedona or Flagstaff. I really like how you’ve decorated your porches with all the pumpkins and mums!
