“Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.”
Philippians 2:3
Hello dear friends! It is another hot and humid day in our Appalachian Foothills! It is way too hot for weeding the garden so today I am running errands and meeting a dear friend for lunch.
It has been a couple of months since I shared a This & That, you know just the stuff of everyday life. So what has been happening on the home front? Let me catch you up…
It is no secret that this is my favorite magazine…
…and was I ever surprised to see Everyday Living (once again) on Southern Lady’s social media page! I know it is just a little photo on the top row, right side, but it is still exciting to open my subscription and find this. Their last 3 issues have had a little Everyday Living feature. I am hoping to see more!
The photo they used for their latest issue was last year’s 4th of July Tablescape, A Star Spangled Evening!
Is there anything better than girlfriend time? My long-time friend Kathy (on my left) celebrated her birthday in May. With other sweet friends Joann and Pam (yes, two Pam’s), we had lunch at a wonderful downtown spot. This historic building, with its original wood floors, houses a wonderful antique mall and delicious cafe. These precious ladies are all long-time friends! We stayed forever and had way too much fun! Apparently the owner, who happens to be a friend, thought we would be good advertisement and placed this photo on their business Facebook page.
If you are new to the blog, this is our only grandchild. Her Mommy teaches school and the precious Princess stays with me three days a week. I knew I would miss her so much during the summer so I asked if I could have her at least a half day each week. Recently she spent the night and as she was waiting for PJ to serve breakfast on the patio, she pointed to her tummy and said “Mae is a hungry girl!”
After breakfast we took a little walk in the garden and I noticed she had put her shoes on the wrong feet!
We are doing some interior painting this summer. I am trying to decide if I want to paint my powder room…I still love the hand painted artwork on the walls, so I am unsure. You can see more of what I call my little jewel box here.
Our daughter-in-love made this cute cake for the Dads in our family! Mr. Renaissance Man loves his John Deere tractor and a moist cake with buttercream icing…it was delicious!!!
Last week we took Ella Mae to Noccalula Falls where there are so many fun and interesting things for adults and children. Ella Mae has named it “the duck park!”
She isn’t that interested in the ducks or the ninety foot waterfall…
…she has one thing on her mind…the “twain” that runs through the park with stops along the way!
We said goodbye to this adorable great nephew and his mommy and daddy last weekend as they left the U.S. flying to the mission field in Asia. It was a tearful goodbye for our family, but knowing they are obeying the call on their live to spread the Good News makes it bearable.
This past Sunday we enjoyed our annual reunion of my Mother’s family. Mother and all of her siblings have passed away, but the extended family got together at my aunt’s home. The family has three surviving aunts and one uncle (my dad) who are all related by marriage. I am one of twenty-one first cousins with fifteen still living. We only had eight of us that could make the reunion but we had lots of laughter and plenty of good food. Sharing old memories and creating new ones made for a special afternoon!
On Monday, the four girl cousins and two aunts traveled forty miles to the old country cemetery where our grandparents are buried. There is an old Southern tradition, usually in the month of May, called Decoration Day where you place flowers on the graves of loved ones. We are continuing the tradition that our parents had faithfully done year after year. I admit we were a month late, but we did it!
I loved this sweet photo taken for Ella Mae’s second birthday in May…
…my girl loves flowers, maybe she will help me in the garden. But for now, she only wants to pick them!
Thank you for making my day special with your sweet visits and comments! Wishing you a joy-filled day!

Such a wonderful post, Pam. I enjoyed it so much. First congratulations on your photos in “Southern Lady.” That is quite an honor, but so well deserved. I am waiting for them to do a feature about you, I know they will!
About Ella Mae, she is so precious and in the photo of her in her pink pj’s – to me, she really looks like Butch in this photo.
Pam, I also love your hand painted walls in your lovely powder room. But, I am sure whatever you decide it will be gorgeous.
Wishing you all a most happy Fourth of July! Again, I thoroughly enjoyed this post!

Thank you sweet Sandra. Have a beauty-filled Thursday!

I was so excited when I saw your tablescape! And how I love each and every photo of your beautiful (and equally adorable) family. What grand times together. That cake is adorable. And if you still love the painting in the bathroom, I’d think twice. I’d not seen that before and it is simply stunning.

Pam, congratulations, again, for being in Southern Lady Magazine. That magazine only has the most beautiful pictures, and yours are always so beautiful. I just love keeping up with the little princess. She could have anyone wrapped around her little finger. You have so much to teach her, considering all of your many talents. Oh, I just love the wallpaper in the powder room. I would keep it , but I know how sometimes one just wants a change. Thank you for all of your lovely posts. Betty

Thank you dear Betty. We are having so much fun with the little princess. It is all about playing. Wishing you and yours a wonderful 4th of July celebration!

Love, love, love, this post. Ella Mae and her cute shoes on the wrong foot made me giggle. She has the most sweet smile and her tummy knows just how to get her attention. Twain riding is a good thing. My puppy barks at the twain when he hears it. Family reunions are a thing of the past in some parts of our country but our family still has them every five years. It’s so wonderful to see cousins that we haven’t seen in a very long time and reminisce. Our parents, aunts and uncles are no longer with us but our memories ifthem haven’t faded.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
It is so much fun to reminisce with family. Alice, we are having so much fun with Ella Mae. Happy weekend, sweet friend!
Alice says
This is Alice again. I love the wallpaper in the powder room. Would hate to chage that.
Alice says
Sorry, not wallpaper but beautiful art.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
I still love it, but we are painting some rooms!
Dolores Velasco says
My dear friend, congratulations for your professional successes. The problem is that the table presentations are very beautiful and, of course, they must be published in specialized magazines. Congratulations.
Very good all the photos … all. Special mention of Butch and Ella Mae in the park, it is a very special photo with the reflections of the water.
And what about those four beautiful and elegant ladies who take a joyful day?
In general, it is a very beautiful publication in which you show your whole family, and it is very pleasant to participate with you despite being far away.
