“I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”
Psalms 119:11
Greetings dear friends from the very warm Appalachian Foothills! It is definitely summer in the South which means the sound of cicadas, tree frogs, and crickets along with glowing fireflies, ice-cold watermelon, and pitchers of sweet tea! These are just a few of the sights, sounds, and tastes that grace our senses this time of year.
With the hot days of July and ample rain, our garden is showing out. Just a reminder, there will be lots of garden inspiration to enjoy at Gardens Galore on Monday, July 16, beginning at 7 a.m. central time.
Grab you hat and take a stroll with me in our July garden!
I love early mornings in the garden especially when it is cloudy.
Sunshine ligustrums provide interesting color and texture.
Bloodgood Japanese Maple leaves are striking against the chartreuse leaves of the ligustrums.
Vanilla-strawberry hydrangeas will change to a pale pink.
Mandevilla is hugging the fence.
Sunflowers will be blooming soon!
Limelight hydrangeas are the star of our July garden…
Vinca and soft touch hollies surround the bronze statue.
Limelights turn a creamy white.
This is a view from the back of the garden. Behind the fence is a couple of rows of sunflowers.
White crepe myrtles and a pair of urns filled with begonias add a little charm to the front of my Renaissance Man’s workshop.
There is a tinge of pink developing on the vanilla strawberry hydrangeas. It is hard to distinguish in the photo.
Last rays of evening sunlight on the tree line behind our pasture.
Painting the trellises white this spring was a good decision.
You can barely see the view of the mountain over the side porch. It was this view and privacy that attracted us to this place that we have called home for over 39 years.
Thank you for taking a walk in our garden. I say “our” because Butch works tirelessly on maintaining. If you look closely you can see I am behind on weeding. Yes, gardening is a lot of work, but its rewards are immeasurable.
I hope you will join me Monday morning for the garden linkup where there will be loads of inspiration and garden therapy! Wishing you all a joy-filled weekend!

Oh what a lovely garden my friend! The stroll was such a delight. I’m ready for watermelon now… 😉
Thank you Nancy! Come on over, I have plenty of watermelon!
The colors of gold are rich with cheerfulness!
Thank you sweet friend!
Pam, your garden is beyond gorgeous. I believe to take it all in, one would need a folding chair to just move from spot-to-spot as to sit and enjoy. You couldn’t begin to enjoy the beauty from one location. Magnificent is what comes to my mind.
Our limelight hydrangea is just beginning to set on blooms. It does its show here in late July to the first of August. It is always a star when everything else is getting tired.
Looking forward to your garden party on Monday and to see all the fabulous blooms and beauty. Have a lovely remainder of the week, dear friend!
Thank you sweet friend! I hope you will be sharing on Monday.
Lovely stroll through your garden. Your garden is so well planned out.
I agree with Nancy watermelon sounds good right now.
I’m excited my limelight is doing well this year!
Look forward to your garden party, Monday!
Thank you Bonnie, I hope you will be sharing on Monday!
I could spend all day in your garden! You definitely have me wondering how I could incorporate a similar round raised bed in our backyard. No mountain view here but we are surrounded by ranches that I love. Nothing better than mountains!
Thank you Stacey. I think you could easily do a round raised bed. Give your gardens another year and you will see a big difference.
Visiting again because it’s so pretty!
Thank you Stacey!
I never tire of the beautiful photographs of your garden. It always brightens my day! We are having a terrible time this year with our plants due to a late freeze followed by extreme heat. I’ve already lost some of my potted inpatients due to disease. I agree with you…gardening is certainly therapeutic, and I am finding this out the older I get with life’s trials and tribulations. I can’t wait to see all of the inspiring gardens on Monday! Happy Thursday, sweet friend!!!
I am so sorry you have had such a bad year with your plants. Gardening is so dependent upon the weather. We had a late freeze which zapped my snowball bushes. Wishing you a wonderful weekend sweet friend!
Your gardens are beautiful!
Just beautiful! It is wonderful to have a succession of color through the summer.
It is just glorious, Pam! What a haven. And wonderful things to pick. I’d hoped to have a post for today’s party but it will have to wait till the next time. Which will come before we know it! Or maybe come late and do it in a couple of days!
Hi Jeanie, thank you. You have time, the party isn’t until Monday. I hope you can join me. Have a wonderful day!
Your garden is an inspiration to all of us. I remember when you first started laying the garden out and the pictures you showed us when it was in the making. It would be nice for those that didn’t get in on the beginning to see before and after because it is stunning. I’ve found that when working in the garden that hours past without me recognizing it. It’s that thing that happens when you love what you are doing. I miss the crepe myrtles here in Colorado as they can’t take the cold. Yours are beautiful.
Thank you Alice. As you well know it is a lot of work. Crepe Myrtles are beautiful all over our city this year. Have a wonderful weekend!
Absolutely stunning!! Your flowers are so lovely!! we have lived in our little townhouse for 40 years now…
Hugs,
Deb
Wow, you have been in your home a long time. Happy gardening, Deb!
I think building a garden is somewhat like building a house. Having a plan, making necessary changes as you proceed and the final project is exactly what you want. You have done this beautifully and your followers are treated to unbelievable beauty. Stunning!
Thank you sweet friend! It is definitely a labor of love!
Your yard is simply breathtaking. Be still my heart 🙂
Thank you Connie, have a wonderful weekend!
Pam, your garden is beautiful. I didn’t plant zinnias this year (thought they might reseed) and I miss them. The neighbors crepe myrtles are blooming (yes, pretty) and making a mess in my pond. That’s ok! Hope you have a fun filled week.
Thank you Snap. Have a lovely weekend!
Like you, Pam, I really enjoy the morning hours in the garden. We’ve started walking much earlier due to the heat, but the pleasure is all mine when we return and I can still work a couple hours before the sun hits hard in certain sections of the garden. And my work continues……
I enjoy the various color schemes in your garden, and the fullness that shows in the photo frames you capture. Tell Butch his garden is definitely a reflection of his hard work. It’s beautiful.
Thank you Rita, don’t get overheated while you are gardening.
Pam,
Love your garden and Appalachian Mountain view! Abundant rain is such a blessing. We are in drought conditions again which means gardens are burning up from the sun and heat. Seeing your garden was such a respite. Everything looks lush and glorious.
Judith
Thank you so much Judith for your visit. Happy Weekend!
So stunning, you are living in paradise! These summer rains have made everything so happy!
Jenna
Thank you Jenna. We had a big rain this afternoon.
Just DIVINE!!!Thanks for sharing!Blessings!
Thank you Maristella!
Wow Pam! Your garden is still gorgeous. Mine is struggling in this heat. I don’t have much blooming. My Strawberry Vanilla Hydrangea is just starting to get a few blossoms. It is still small. My Limelight doesn’t bloom for a while yet. Thanks for sharing with SYC.
hugs,
Jann
Thank you for SYC, Jann!
Beautiful Pam! I especially like the juxtaposition of the white of the crepe myrtle & the red of the begonias in the pots.
Jennifer
Thank you Jennifer!
A pleasure!
I go back and forth between being drawn to colorful arrangements and all white. The vanilla hydrangeas are stunning. I planted hydrangeas in my yard this summer and some are pink and others are blue – but no white! Thanks for the good ideas.
Thank you Leslie Anne, Have a wonderful weekend!
Bonsoir magnifique à photos de jardin…qui lui aussi est superbe !!! Bravo et bon week end ! Coucou de France ?
Merci Catherine pour ta jolie visite et tes commentaires! Passez un merveilleux week-end!
A garden to be proud of. I know it takes a lot of work to have it look like that, it is beautiful.
Thank you Karen, it does take work!
Just beautiful Pam! Everything looks so lush and happy and I love the contrast of the chartreuse foliage of the ligustrums and burgundy of the Japanese maple. I always start my day early in the garden before the heat is overwhelming. We’re behind in rain so I’m spending more time watering than normal with our 90+ degree temps. Looking forward to seeing everyone’s gardens tomorrow, Happy Sunday. ♥
Thank you Mary, we had a few storms last week. I love getting rain, but wind can wreak havoc. Happy Sunday to you❤️
You have such a beautiful garden! I love the combination of colors and textures. It is such an inspiration!
Thank you for visiting with me!
Oh Pam…I adore your garden with all the splendid colors. I know how hard it is to keep up with the weeding and watering and dead heading etc so congrats on your success with those endeavors. I also love the way you incorporated all the colors and the different plants. I love zinnias and had two plants in a pot but they didn’t fare well no matter how I babied them. Mom used to throw seed out and where ever they landed…they grew. I have not had that kind of luck here in SW Florida. God Bless you and your family.
Kari, thank you so much. Gardening is so much work, but I love the results. Blessings sweet friend and have a wonderful Wednesday!
The crepe myrtles are always a favorite of mine. Just beautiful, all of it! Thanks for sharing at Home Sweet Home!
My pleasure, thank you Sherry!
Love your garden. I live in North Central Texas and rain is something dreams are made of. I am afraid I will lose most of my garden this year as our city has increased our water. My water alone was over $500.00 last month. I need to move close to you. I noticed your had a lot of shrubs, maybe these wont require as much water. My Vanilla Strawberries die this summer from heat or lack of water, I don’t know. If you have any ideas for my garden, please share. Our temps this week will run from 105 to 108. Happy Gardening Sandy Smith, Bridgeport Texas.
Wow Sandy, bless your heart in that Texas heat that is relentless. A $500.00 water bill is astronomical. Sandy, we have had our bouts with drought, but our temps are normally in the low 90’s but we can get a week or two of high 90’s. How terrible that you lost your vanilla strawberry hydrangeas. I have no experience with that kind of ongoing heat. I wouldn’t know where to begin. Stay inside for sure in that heat. If I come up with anything, I will let you know. I am still a novice gardener.
Your garden is always so inspiring to me. I am finally going to have space to plant next early next year and I can’t wait, although, I doubt my garden will ever compare, but I love visiting your via Everyday Living and your lovely photos!
Thank you Chloe, I am excited for you to plant your garden.
So glad you joined our Garden Party! My limelight hydrangeas have just started their blooms! It’s interesting to see how our different areas are in the gardens.
Jenna, what an honor for you to paint from my blog. I love everything you do!
Liz, I love a good garden party!?
Your garden is always breathtaking! Thanks for sharing it wit the Garden Party.
hugs,
Jann
Thank you Jann, I love a garden party!
Always such a beautiful garden to visit. Whether it is a pic of the whole garden or close-up shots, it is so amazing to see your garden. Your work is such an inspiration to all of us.
Judy, thank you for your visit and your kind words. We both know that gardening is hard work!
You have a lovely garden with so much happening. Hydrangeas have such beautiful blooms. – Margy
I so appreciate your visit, Margy!
