Happy Friday sweet friends. This is the first Friday of the month which means Floral Friday with my blogging friends Shirley, Lidy, and Mary. I invite you to have a seat with a cuppa coffee or tea and join me out in the garden as I am celebrating sunflowers! There might also be fixin’s for a favorite summertime sandwich!

Sunflowers are one of my favorite flowers. They are happy and they make me smile! We have been planting seeds for several years and I anxiously await the very first bloom. If you missed my gardening post yesterday, you can catch up here.
You can imagine my excitement when it was decided that sunflowers would be our theme for this edition of Floral Friday. It perfectly coincided with our sunflowers being in bloom. Summertime and sunflowers just go together as do fresh tomato sandwiches and hot weather! I always think of the beautiful sunflower fields found in Provence and Tuscany. So with those pictures in my mind, in celebration of the sunflower blooms in our Appalachian Foothills’ garden, I decided to use an Italian pasta jar and hand painted French plates.
The two varieties of tomatoes are Celebrity and Cherokee Purple and both are delicious.
Sunflowers look beautiful as a stand-alone flower which is how I most often use them. But, pairing sunflowers with a sprig of stock or other flowers can make a nice presentation that is quick and easy.
As you probably know by now, I love blue and white. This large Italian pasta jar was my choice for sunflowers, limelight hydrangeas, and purple stock. I added some rosemary inside the jar to keep the heavy sunflowers in an upright position.
Even an unopened bloom makes a nice photo, by the next day it was fully opened.
I moved my round garden table in order to get a shot of my sunflowers that are planted behind the garden. A bee tablecloth from Pottery Barn was the underpinning for my charcuterie board handcrafted from old European barn wood that I found in the gift shop at Blackberry Farm. Is there anything better in the summer than a BLT sandwich?! Most of us Southerners want it on white bread, with crispy bacon, iceberg lettuce, and we are adamant about the mayo…either Duke’s or Hellmann’s. Quimper faience dinner plates, made in the Brittany region of France and gifted to me by my blogging friend, Rita @ Panoply, were the perfect choice for our tomato sandwiches!
I always love going out to my garden to cut sunflowers…so much pleasure after all of our hard work!
A close up shot of the arrangement blends seamlessly with the background of sunflowers and limelight hydrangeas!
I always like to add basil to my BLT, so I cut sprigs for a small vase…but no basil for My Renaissance Man, he keeps his sandwich traditional!
It was a perfect evening for dinner in the garden…the resident chef didn’t even have to turn on her stove!

Swoon Pam! I know I’m in for a treat when I start my day with a virtual stroll or table in your garden! How wonderful to see those tall sunflowers blooming in background of your garden. Your pasta jar is stunning as a vase for your sunflowers paired with your hydrangeas and pop of purple from the stock. We haven’t had our BLT for the summer yet (Duke’s for me please) and we like basil on our sandwiches too. I spied those adorable watering can salt and pepper shakers right away and recognized that wonderful dish pattern you received from Rita. Thanks for the beautiful start to my day, it’s always a pleasure to join you for Floral Friday.

Such a pretty table! We have an annual Sunflower Festival in a small village near by every year. The farmers plant sunflowers along the roadside for miles with a craft fair and food trucks and such. They are just the happiest flowers and one of my favorites. BLT’s, sunflowers, blue and white and sharing the meal with someone you love is as special as it gets in my book. Thanks for sharing!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you so much Carolyn. A sunflower festival sounds perfect, I would love to see those sunflowers along the roadside. Have a wonderful weekend!

Love your arrangement today with sunflowers that you and Butch grew making it all the more special! I’ve always admired your stately blue and white pasta jar in your kitchen. It was perfect for your arrangement. Adding stock and limelights created a swoon worthy bouquet.
BLT makings look so inviting on your table with the Quimper pottery from Rita.

Such a happy post, Pam! And, that is exactly what sunflowers are ~ happy! Your arrangement in the beautiful pasta jar is gorgeous. The other flowers mixed in with the sunflowers make the arrangement interesting. All placed on the lovely tablecloth, with such an inviting lunch. Our tomatoes are coming in and we have been enjoying tomato sandwiches, also. I say, “we must enjoy them while we have them.”

Sunflowers are just so perfect for Summer and one of my favorite flowers too. I haven’t grown them in my yard for awhile but since I just cleared a huge area in my middle garden, they will be on the list to plant next year. Your blue and white pasta jar and dishes are so pretty with the flowers and background of your table.

Even though I have been busy with family gatherings… I know I can come over to your place for a garden feast for my eyes when I have a moment of rest.
Seeing your sunflowers growing in your garden was the added bonus to your beautiful tablescape! That pasta vase was a lovely accessory to your very own sunflowers! I love your watering can salt and pepper shakers along with those plates from Rita. Isn’t it something how we can forge wonderful friendships from our virtual world as well!
Thanks so much for the blt sandwich. Your tomatoes were perfect. I am a traditionalist with Helmans for me. I’m from Pennsylvania and have never had Dukes. In Arizona, Hellmans is called Best Foods. Same label etc. but name change.
Have a lovely week. I’m off to catch up with your other posts.
