“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
John 1:1
Warm greetings dear friends! I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and holiday weekend. I must say I love having an extra week after turkey day to get my house ready for Christmas, I certainly needed it this year!
Many of you have been asking about my dining room and when would I be sharing it. Butch and I painted the walls, ceiling, and trim in July and I absolutely love the new color. As you all know, I had very dramatic red walls that I still loved. I also had yards and yards of silk window coverings. Since I am not one to go with trends, I am more traditional, I have always kept my home in a design that I love. I only changed because the upkeep of the silk was getting hard to maintain.
The plan was new paint, window treatments, dining table, and chairs.
The walls were painted Palladian Blue by Benjamin Moore, a soft color that I have always loved. Instead of elaborate window coverings, I have simple pleated linen panels on my double front window and pleated toppers on my bay window, with no trims. I haven’t found my perfect table and chairs so there is no change yet. Years ago this would have stressed me not to have finished a room in a timely manner, but I didn’t even let it bother me.
Christmas tablescapes certainly look different in a soft blue room, I will be sharing more on Thursday. Now join me in the dining room for blue & white with tartan!
The new tartan throw that I found at TJ Maxx was my inspiration for the tablesetting.
I have loved this blue and white Queen’s Seasons Greetings Blue dinnerware ever since I discovered the six place settings several years ago at Tuesday Morning!
I was definitely surprised to see it on pages 59-60 of the Southern Lady Special Edition Christmas magazine. They certainly styled it elegantly!
A bowl of apples and a pineapple, the symbol of hospitality, are an easy centerpiece!
Adding a pair of sterling silver candlesticks to the casual setting gives it a touch of elegance.
We have had several days of clouds, so the walls did not photograph as well as I had hoped! I kept all of my art work the same, why change what you love?
Red napkins are held by a Christmas ornament. Tip: you can find these for a smidgen of the cost of napkin rings.
Antler sheds are perfect for the holiday and winter season!
Last year I finally broke down and bought the twig flatware!
“A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in a setting of silver.”
Proverbs 25:11
My sweet Renaissance Man cut fresh cedar to add to the chandelier again this year. He refreshes it weekly!
Thank you for your sweet visits and the comments that you leave. You truly make my day. I will share my little Christmas change-up in the bay window on Thursday! Have a most wonderful day.

I,to,love Paladium blue. Your China is so pretty with the plaid. I love that you do what you like in your decorating. Sometimes I feel very intimidated because I don’t follow every trend. We need to do what makes us happy.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much, you are correct. It is our home and we should make it work for us.
Kari says
Love your blue walls Pam and your table is lovely as usual. The blue dinnerware is gorgeous and I wish I had found them at our Tuesday Morning but for some reason our store is a bit limited. I hope you are staying warm during this time of snow storms and blizzards in some parts of the country. My kids have been shoveling snow for the past few days and our residual here in Florida has been cooler weather. Blessings sweet friend.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Kari. It is a little colder than normal right now, but I know some areas of the country have had winter blasts. Blessings~
French Ethereal says
Dear Pam, this is just what I needed: scripture verses mixed in with your table setting! I can’t “feel” Christmas yet and I know it is because I need to be more “in the Word.” <3 Going there immediately.
Your newly painted walls are beautiful and soft with this blue ~ very pretty! The artwork shows very well.
Funny how just a simple change makes everything new and fresh again. 🙂 I had Ralph Lauren Barn Red on my living room walls for 9 years before I went with a soft Dove Grey. Loved both for their different looks!
Thank you for a lovely Christmas table! Your husband is a dear to refresh the greenery for you weekly. Isn’t that the nicest thing about marriage? Doing something wonderful for our spouses. <3
Happy decorating in His Love,
Hugs and blessings,
Barb 🙂
French Ethereal says
p.s. I forgot to say how cute your teddy bear tableware is! Adorable!!! Pinned several pics for you, too. <3
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks for pinning, Barb!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you so much for your sweet comments Barb. And yes, I hope to always decorate in His love, it is the only reason to celebrate. Wishing you a lovely week❤️?❤️

Finally we get to see the new color. It totally changes the room and like you I would not change the art. I only buy what I love and most of mine are oils my dear sweet departed cousin painted for me. I told my hubby that if the house caught on fire to get my painting before anything else. I cherish her work and now that she is with JESUS I love them more than ever. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the room. I have a question Pam about the twig flatware. How does it feel to the hand when you eat? It looks round.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Alice for your kind words. I personally don’t like the way the twig flatware feels in my hand. I love the way it looks and I have only used it a few times. Over all, it was probably not a good purchase. But, it is fun to see on a table!
Mary says
Swoon Pam! I’ve been anxiously waiting for your dining room reveal. While I loved your dramatic red walls, your new blue color is a soft and beautiful backdrop to artwork. I bet you’ll love how reflects the light and changes color during the day. Love your tartan throw as a tablecloth and your sweet ornaments as napkin rings. Your blue Queen’s Seasons Greetings is such a fun pattern for Christmas and your pineapple fruit centerpiece is a perfect centerpiece. ♥
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Mary, the room is certainly a change but as we are getting older I find that I want easier maintenance.
Shannon@Belle Bleu Interiors says
Pam, I love, love, love the new blue walls! I loved the red, too. They are both beautiful. After Christmas, we are going to paint our dining room. I have tried to live with the dark green that was original to the house, but it is just too dark. You have inspired me to make the change. Your table is gorgeous with the tartan underpinning providing the perfect backdrop for your pretty blue and white collection. Happy Tuesday, sweet friend!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Shannon. I know your dining room will be beautiful whatever you paint it. Happy Tuesday to you my friend!
Rita C. says
Lovely, Pam! I hope you will share your bay windows with treatments as you complete your Christmas decor. That was always a favorite view of mine in your DR. You will love the versatility of the twig flatware from fall through winter. Love your tartan with the dishes, and the centerpiece is classic Southern.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Rita. I will be showing the bay window on Thursday. It is definitely different!
Sandra at Maison De Jardin says
Pam, your table is absolutely gorgeous. And the new color on your walls is beautiful. To me, it looks like what I would call a ‘seafoam green.’ It is lovely and your art shows more against the lighter background. Also, your chandelier is fabulous with the cedar, tell your sweet hubby I think he is a marvelous talent. Looking forward to seeing your changes in your bay window area. Have a lovely week, my friend.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you sweet Sandra. I could never do my Christmas decorating without him, he is definitely a talent in so many ways!
marmeladegypsy says
That’s so pretty! I’m having a yen to hit TJs or Home Goods for a bit of plaid! I got out a plaid runner and thought I might need to add another (different room, different tartan!). Looks so pretty with the dishes and I love your flatware too.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Jeanie, I simply adore plaid!
Roxanne says
Beautiful! I always love a tartan (Clan McGregor here!). My living room/dining room are painted SW Windy Blue. I absolutely love it because my husband and I are both “blue” people, but sometimes I doubt myself because you never see blue rooms in decorating magazines. Then I think “my house, my money” I should have what I love! Can’t wait to see Thursday’s post!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Amen, Roxanne. I have tried to not be swayed by current fads, but to stay true to what I love. Homes are like fashion, they who are the trendsetters will always be changing in order to push consumer buying. I say it is your house, please you and your hubby!
Liz @ Home and Gardening With Liz says
Ooh I do love the new color of your dining room! Great table- love the tartan throw. Those are fabulous dishes. You got a real treasure when you found those!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks Liz, I wish I had two more place settings!

So beautiful, so elegant!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you so much Kay. Have a wonderful week!
Bonnie Morgan says
I love your new color. You were brave to make the change. I have done that moving to different houses. I am slowly working up the energy to tackle taking down my foyer wallpaper and painting my DR and LR a lighter color. Change is good.
Being the blue lover that I am I really like your blue Christmas pattern. It looks great with the plaid throw and blue and white bowl filled with fruit.
Looking forward to the rest of your reveal. It really looks nice.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
I think knowing all that is involved in making changes can be overwhelming, I find that just getting started is half the battle. Thank you Bonnie!
Nancy Brantley says
Your table setting is pretty…mixing blue with red tartan! The blue walls are pretty but I loved your red walls and silk curtains. I love Classic Elegance.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
I always loved the red and silk, just needed easier maintenance. Thank you Nancy!
Dolores Velasco says
Dear friends Pam and Butch, congratulations on a day as important as the celebration of “Thanksgiving” and congratulations on the new image of the dining room.
You have to change from time to time, “renew or die”, says a popular saying … The fact is that I love the renovation. You have chosen a very beautiful wall color that highlights the beautiful paintings you have.
The very elegant table with the contrast of the tartan tablecloth and the softness of the walls, very elegant … together with the highly successful decorations.
I love…
Dolores
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Dolores, gracias querido amigo! Es un gran cambio del rojo al azul suave, pero realmente lo estamos disfrutando. El tono más claro y suave es un cambio agradable! ¿Estás decorando para navidad? ¡Espero que tengas una semana maravillosa! Abrazos, Pam
Dolores Velasco says
This year we celebrate Christmas at my home in Madrid. Normally it is done in Granada at Leticia’s house, but this year I want to be the hostess.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Dolores, sé que disfrutarás siendo la anfitriona este año. Solo sé que eres una cocinera increíble. ¡Espero que compartas algunas fotos conmigo! Mucho amor Pam

Absolutely beautiful tablescape! I love your blue & white dishes and that chandelier is stunning!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Elizabeth, and have a great week!

Pam… I am in love with the plaid mixed with the blue and white. I bought a red plaid tablecloth at Marshalls a few weeks ago. I wasn’t sure what dishes to use. Thanks for solving my holiday dilemma. I will use my blue and white! Have a wonderful week. Btw… Love your new paint color in the dining room. I had a red dining room for years. Now it is a Wedgewood Blue.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Katie. I love mixing blue and white with tartan, stripes, or checks. Go for it!
Libby @ Beauty Without Within says
Your new wall color did freshen and lighten up your already beautiful dining room. And I love the titan plaid with the blue and white. I can’t wait to see all of the completed room.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you sweet Elizabeth!
CarolMaeWY says
Love the blue dishes Pam. I’m a blue person so I love your new wall coloring. It shows more pale green on the blog. I could never be trendy with wall colors. That would be too much work. My Christmas decorations will be limited and “up” this year. We have two puppies and two kittens ~ˆ..ˆ~ and I don’t want anything broken. I hope to have a tree ?for at least a week though. Thanks for getting me in the Christmas spirit. Where do you keep all your table settings?
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Take care of yourself, and enjoy your tree for whatever time you can have it up. I have a lot of cabinets, and those that are seasonal are stored in Rubbermaid bins. Have a good week!

Wow, this is quite a change from your previous look, but it, too is lovely and has a warm feel. I would expect nothing less. I am thinking a lot about color these days as we are moving sometime next year and I want a very different look so that leaving our house won’t be so painful.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Yes, this is a big change, but we like it. Leaving your home can be extremely difficult.

Pam, your dining room is quite lovely with the new paint. I love red too. The blue china is so pretty. I don’t have a lot of blue in my home, but I do admire it so. The plaid provides a lovely compliment with the blue. Fruit is always welcome and the pineapple for friendship. Can’t wait to see your Christmas table for the upcoming blog hop..
the Painted Apron says
What a beautiful soft color Pam, you have opened up so many possibilities for new tablescapes! I would have never paired the blues with the tartan plaid, but it really works! The room just screams festive holiday! You have incorporated so many different elements, fresh and faux, and it’s so welcoming! I am so glad to have this “extra week” too, I’ve got Christmas lights on the entrance railings, but pumpkins and spent mums are still there too ?

I love everything about your dining room and tablescape. Could you please tell me where you found the blue stemware? I’ve looked almost everywhere, to no avail! Thanks!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Aw, thanks so much! The stemware came from Horchow.com several years ago. They no longer have it and I wish I could find it somewhere, but so far I haven’t!

I love the Queens Seasons Greetings. Are the Myotts?
Pam @ Everyday Living says
On the back it only says Queens, made in England!

I love the peace you bring to the table. Simple, yet elegant! What a powerful message of God’s word through the simple setting of a table for a holiday season that begs us to remember God’s love and his commitment to us. I see it in the simplest way in your table of treasures and colors. Bless you in the new year! I look forward to seeing the changes of the seasons!
