“But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”
Isaiah 40:31
Hello dear readers and welcome October! Be sure to read to the bottom of this post for the winner of our giveaway. This is my favorite month of the year for so many different reasons. We will celebrate my precious Daddy’s 89th birthday this coming Sunday at our home. My birthday comes at the end of the month, and if you saw Sunday’s post you saw my fabulous early birthday surprise from Renaissance Man! I love October, not just for birthday celebrations, but because it is the month that leaves begin their colorful display of reds, golds, and oranges. The sky turns to a brilliant shade of blue and the autumn light is magical. And of course, I love all things pumpkin! Join me at the table as we welcome October!
“I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.”
-L.M. Montgomery
Using the warm colors of autumn, I set my garden table for a late afternoon dinner.
“My favorite color is October.”
-Unknown
The plaid throw that is often used for fall tables was my inspiration!
A lovely embroidered table topper that I brought home from a trip to Italy sits atop the plaid throw. A hand-carved dough bowl that was made many years ago by a family friend takes center stage as it holds pumpkins and dried sunflowers!
Faux leather chargers and resin tortoise-shell flatware add texture to the table.
Johnson Brothers “harvest time” vintage dishware was an excellent buy last year from a friend who sells antique and vintage dishware, linens, and furniture. The multi-color brown fruit and leaves pattern with its scalloped edges is perfect for the fall season.
“There is no season when such pleasant and sunny spots may be lighted on, and produce so pleasant an effect on the feelings, as now in October.”
– Nathaniel Hawthorne
Gifted pumpkin napkin rings hold plaid napkins!
“ I have been younger in October than in all the months of spring.”
-W.S. Merwin
I call this my jewel stemware…the colors remind me of semi-precious stones…peridot, amethyst, and citrine!
“In the entire circle of the year there are no days so delightful as those of a fine October.”
-Alexander Smith
A better look at the table topper with its embroidered olive branches and olives!
Now to announce the winner of the beautiful six inch golden green velvet pumpkin…congrats to Bobbi T!! Thank you to all who entered and I so appreciate each visit and your sweet comments.
Wishing you all a joy-filled day!

Just beautiful Pam! I love your pretty topper and plaid throw as a tablecloth. Harvest Time by JB was my grandmother’s pattern so it holds a special place in my heart as I can remember the meals she prepared and served on it. I’m always happy to pull up at a table in your garden but more so when the weather is twenty degrees cooler! I’m so ready for a break from this heat and humidity. Stay cool. ♥
Thank you Mary! We are predicted for a cool down by Sunday, I certainly hope so!
“October’s bright blue weather”, something I think about each year. I love the Fall shadows and the colors of the trees on my walks. Today the high will be 55 and so I will pull out a light jacket to make my rounds. Pumpkins are everywhere reminding me to chose a pie pumpkin for Thanksgiving. Yours are picture perfect.
Alice, I know your winters are so cold, but I long for a little cooler weather, I feel like I am melting. Enjoy your walk my friend!
I love autumn, your table is so cozy. I want it to get cooler, dreaming of plaid wool skirts and chocolate brown boots, curling up with a quilt, pumpkin bread in the oven.
You painted the perfect scene! Thank you Carole!
Pam, your table is pure October gold. Perfection. Your centerpiece is so pretty. I made a centerpiece for our table yesterday in my grandmothers wooden dough bowl. We must have been thinking similar thoughts.
Happy birthday to your dear dad and congratulations to Bobbi T. Have a beautiful month, my friend.💛
Great minds think alike 😊 thank you Sandra. I know your centerpiece is beautiful.
Gorgeous fall table!
Thank you Penny!
So pretty, Pam. I love that Johnson Bros. pattern. I have the huge platter. Happy birth month!
Thanks so much Rita.
Your Harvest Time dishes were quite the find. I love all the elements of this table. The stemware reminds me of rare jewels also. Happy Birthday to your precious Dad. It is still so hot in the mountains. The leaves are swirling and twirling to the ground and I always love watching. Love you friend.
Thank you Dianne. Happy October and love you!
Gorgeous table! I love that you can eat outdoors in September and October! We pull it off sometimes — but not often! And I wonder — did Johnson Brothers EVER make a pattern that just didn’t capture the heart? I don’t think I’ve ever seen one of their I don’t like and yours might be a favorite!
Thanks so much Jeanie. I agree JB patterns are always fabulous!
Another beautiful table! The table topper is gorgeous and a great souvenir from your travels. Being the winner of the velvet pumpkin has made my day! Enjoy October, it will go by soooo fast.
Thank you Bobbie and congrats!
Good morning and happy October, Pam! Your autumn table is gorgeous with the beautiful linens, pretty china, and jewel stemware. I think the Johnson Brothers China is perfect for this time of year. Your table topper is stunning. Such rich colors and the yarn has a lovely sheen. You do such a good job designing your tables. The dough bowl is artfully arranged with colorful pumpkins. I love your dishes, glassware, and cutlery.
We are driving home today after being gone for 13 days. I am the hostess for my garden club Tuesday. Thankfully I reserved the library as a back up meeting place last year.
Loved your birthday present. Happy celebrating with your Dad.
Thank you dear Bonnie. I know you enjoyed your time with son and family. Safe travels!
Sheer perfection is that Autumn tablescape…. The mellow colors, enhanced by the light of a Fall
day, set the ideal stage for your plaid cloth, JB dinnerware, the jeweled goblets and Oh that tortoise flatware (another Pam-inspired wish list item) A most blessed birthday to your revered
Dad and congratulations to Bobbi. How October mellows the heart…as does your creative
centerpiece. Blessings ~
You are so gracious and your comments are so meaningful. How are you doing with therapy?
I am in Tennessee with my daughter and it’s way too hot to consider eating outside! That being said, I will enjoy your garden tables as long as you set them.
I am planning a party this Sunday afternoon for my Dad, and it is supposed to cool down, hopefully!
Pam, please wish your father a very happy birthday. October is a busy birthday month! Are you still planning a trip to Charleston? Hubby’s birthday is also this month. I surprised him with two sets of concert tickets…the Platters and the Drifters! Your table is the perfect hint of Fall. I’m glad you showed the beautiful topper by itself, it is exquisite. Congratulations to Bobbi!
Thank you so much Roxanne, and I will share with my Dad. Butch has had pneumonia and can’t shake it, he goes back to the doctor tomorrow. I am unsure about a trip, maybe by the end of the month. I want to revisit Charleston, it has been too long since we were last there. Best hotel recommendation?? Preferably historic and smaller! I have a couple in mind.
Pam your throw of plaid is gorgeous. Everything looks Fall like.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOUR DAD

Such a lovely Autumn Tablescape! I am looking forward to arriving at our Winter Home and making a new Autumn Table!! You are always my inspiration!
I love how you celebrate the different seasons in your decorating Pam! It’s not our custom to do so here in Australia unless it’s Christmas.
