“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
John 3:16
Hello sweet readers. I can hardly believe that Christmas is two weeks from tomorrow. There are still presents to be bought and wrapped, goodies to be baked and shared, and most importantly time to be spent with family and friends. Tomorrow is our son’s birthday. I shall never forget that Christmas morning thirty four years ago when we placed him under our Christmas tree. We wept tears of joy for God’s answered prayer for a child. We will celebrate on Thursday evening with dinner at our house. The menu never changes as I prepare his favorites…manicotti and red velvet cake. Today’s tablescape was set with him in mind!
The table is set for four, but will change on Thursday to accommodate nine smiling faces. For many years I entertained all during the holidays. Often I would invite three or four couples, but there was always something special when there was only one couple sitting across the table from us. It allowed time for meaningful conversation.
The Lynch Creek Farm “woodland birch” centerpiece is still fresh, so once again it is making an appearance. I removed it from the blue and white bowl and placed it inside a wicker tray in keeping with an all natural look running down the center of the table.
Red delicious and Granny Smith apples, lemons, and oranges are placed on fresh cut Leyland Cypress and a few sprigs of rosemary for a table length centerpiece that is so easy to assemble. A pair of antler candle stands, made by our son, flank the LCF arrangement!
My beloved Mother’s ceramic Christmas tree napkin rings hold beautiful April Cornell napkins that were used in an Instagram collaboration. For fun, a peppermint candy cane was placed on top!
“I heard the bells on Christmas Day,
their old familiar carols play.
And wild and sweet, their words repeat
Of peace on earth, good will to men.
-Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
…and beautiful stemware gifted by a sweet friend one Christmas season long ago!
My first set of Christmas dishware, “Happy Holidays”, with its scalloped edge and depiction of a traditional Victorian Christmas tree, was a sweet present from my parents!
A sparkling punch for all to enjoy!
“Christmas, my child, is love in action. Every time we love, every time we give, it’s Christmas.”
-Dale Evans Rogers
“Christmas is a season for kindling the fire for hospitality in the hall, the genial flame of charity in the heart.”
-Washington Irving
Thank you for your visits and gracious comments. Wishing you the most joyous Christmas Season!
Congrats to my winner, Sandra L., of the Lynch Creek Farm centerpiece of her choice! A special thanks to all who entered.
