Citrus – Flowers – Blue & White

February 17, 2020~ Everyday Living, Faith, Monday Morning Blooms

“But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭86:15‬ ‭

Hello sweet friends. Thank you for your emails and prayers since I have been fighting this sinus infection and bronchitis that seems to be going around. I am still not one hundred per cent, but hopefully I will be soon. Didn’t my Renaissance Man do a fabulous job filling in for me? He has a unique style of writing and is quite the talented man, hence my nickname for him.

It is the third Monday of the month which means it is time for an edition of Monday Morning Blooms. With all of the gray skies and rain, I think we can all use a little flower therapy.

I love blue and white and use it frequently. It is always classic and fresh whether on the table or dressing a home.

The links for my creative friends are at the bottom of this post.

Our common theme for today is the use of citrus fruit. I found blood oranges at the grocery store (love their color) and paired them with fresh lemons to grace the table.

With last week being Valentine’s, everything was pretty much red roses at the grocery store. Fortunately, I finally found a mix of flowers to blend with lemons and oranges.

An English vase holds white hydrangeas, mini carnations, white mums, alstroemeria, and seeded eucalyptus.

Rather than placing the citrus fruit within the arrangement, I filled an apothecary jar with lemons and blood oranges. I placed a Johnson Brothers “blue willow” platter underneath the vase placing a few oranges and lemons to surround. The princesses came for a visit on Saturday just after I had photographed the table. Ella Mae surveyed the dining room table and her first question was, “PJ why did you cut the orange?” Nothing escapes her big brown eyes!

Forsythia has been blooming everywhere and yes it is too early! I am apprehensive how spring will be impacted by our warm winter.

The lemon cake bites are amazing! They remind me of my beloved mom’s lemon supreme cake that she would make for my daddy. I packaged up most of them for him to enjoy with his morning coffee. I did keep a couple for a little pick-me-up with my afternoon cappuccino. I must confess these delicious bites were not baked in my kitchen!

I found a sparkling citrus juice at the grocery store that is really refreshing. More Vitamin-C is always a good idea and it complements the citrus fruit theme!

“I love fresh citrus and always keep lemons, limes, and oranges on hand; they come in handy for spritzing up quickly grilled meats, seafoods, and vegetables, especially when followed up by a quick drizzle of extra virgin olive oil.”

-Emeril Lagasse

Pam, Your vignette with your blue and white pieces and citrus is stunning! I adore the addition of your forsythia branches in your blue and white vessel and how you used the apothecary jar for the citrus. Such a pretty combination of blooms and you have me craving a lemon cake bite this morning! I’m worried too about what our unseasonably warm winter means for our early spring blooming shrubs and trees as many are beginning to bud. I’m afraid the viburnum will be frost nipped this early. I’m so glad you were feeling well enough to join us today! As always it’s a treat to join you for some flower therapy. Happy Monday ♥

Love, love, love and more love!!….The blue and white are a perfect compliment for citrus. The flower arrangement adds such a beautiful soft touch to the table. Now if those lemon cake bites were at my house, it would be a chore to keep the hubby away from the prop! The forsythia here at the Berry Patch house are in bloom…I was so surprised to see them bloom. Now i would have to buy them at Trader Joe’s! Beautiful table as always Pam! Happy to be joining you today!! Have a wonderful day!

Good morning, Pam. A lovely, lovely table. I am a lover of blue and white and I am especially fond of your vase which holds your pretty arrangement. The lemon cake bites look scrumptious and would be so nice with my coffee right now.
We are seeing signs of spring here in WV as well. Our neighbors huge forsythia, which is in perfect view from my kitchen window, has a tinge of yellow to it. We are expecting temps in the mid 50’s this week so I imagine it will pop soon.
Wishing you a lovely week and so glad you are feeling better. ❤

I bet it smelled wonderful too~ I have a feeling the Ella Mae is going to grow into quite the decorator and tablescaper as she watches you create eye candy with your lovely things 🙂 The lemon bites look so good, did you get them from a bakery? Yes, way too early for forsythia, I pray we don’t have a hard freeze…

Pam, I am swooning over that candlestick, it is gorgeous! There is no such thing as too much blue and white in my little world. It is just the perfect accompaniment to your citrus colors. Strangely, I saw a lot of men in the grocery buying flowers the day AFTER Valentine’s! Did they forget? Were they in the doghouse? Were the they waiting for a sale? So many unanswered questions!

Your vignette is very eye catching and creative as usual. I pinned for sure. Forsythias are so cheerful and look fabulous in a blue and white vase. I would love a lemon cake about now with my coffee. I know your Daddy was pleased to have some.

Citrus is what I craved when sick; drank more orange juice in the past 3 weeks than I have in the past 3 years! Blood oranges are a favorite. Your citrus in the apothecary jar is so pretty. Your trio of arrangements is so refreshing. Love the forsythia but I too am concerned about spring blooms. Your blue and white pairs perfectly with the blooms & citrus. Have a wonderful day! Upon returning home, he married my beautiful Mother and they shared 54 wonderful years together before she passed away suddenly.

My brother and I grew up in a Christian home, bathed in love, calm, security, and contentment, under the care of the two finest parents anyone could have. Daddy was known as Pawpaw to his three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

My heart is broken, he was the best Daddy a girl could have. I know he is present with the Lord and I rejoice in that promise, knowing too, that my Mother is also in the eternal presence of our Heavenly Father.

Welcome to Sunshine Cottage and the March edition Welcome to Sunshine Cottage and the March edition of Tea on Tuesdays. My inspiration for teatime is the beautiful linens from @april.cornell With the celebration of their 50th anniversary, many Heritage Prints from the archives have returned. Eden is one of the beautiful patterns that has returned. It is a soft purple paradise where butterflies float, roses bloom, and soft sage leaves levitate. As an April Cornell Brand Ambassador, I was gifted these gorgeous linens! I have been a collector of @april.cornell linens for many years…the floral patterns resonate with my love of English Country.

I am serving my favorite, Earl Gray tea, from an Eileen’s Reserve teapot. Teacups by Grace Teaware and vintage Rose Chintz salad plates by Johnson Brothers add more floral patterns to the mix. Japanese Magnolia blooms were cut from my garden and placed in a lilypad teapot!

Mary @ homeiswheretheboatis.net and I welcome Nancy @nance_endless_summer as our special guest! LINK in bio for the blog posts. Have a wonderful day!

Happy Monday! With March bringing the promise of s Happy Monday! With March bringing the promise of spring and looking forward to our garden awakening, I planted a blooming bulb garden in my Sunshine Cottage! The butcher block countertop under a window, was a perfect place for a mini garden. Muscari, hyacinths, tulips, and daffodils danced in the sunlight and filled the cottage with an amazing fragrance!

Happy Tuesday! Welcome to the Sunshine Cottage whe Happy Tuesday! Welcome to the Sunshine Cottage where it is warm and cozy on this cold February day. It is Tea on Tuesdays and I have set a tea table with the “Blue Roses” collection that was a collaboration between @victoriamagazine and @april.cornell The exclusive porcelain pattern and matching linens have been used many times and I still enjoy their blue and white beauty. Instead of fresh flowers, porcelain ones require no arranging. Sweet treats pair perfectly with a traditional English Breakfast tea. Happy first Monday of February! After so many cold Happy first Monday of February! After so many cold days, we are experiencing a tease of spring with a 73 degree day that is forecast. After the gray and cloudy days, I needed a dose of color and decided to set a colorful citrus themed brunch! Using a bird gold and pewter stand, I mixed a citrus medley of lemons, oranges, and limes with pink and white carnations as the centerpiece. The table is highlighted with blue and white dishware. Fresh squeezed orange juice, French-pressed coffee and sweet treats of lemon poppyseed muffins, lemon cake with lemon icing, and lemon pastries are perfect for a small brunch. A faux lemon topiary belonged to my beloved Mother and seemed a perfect addition to a citrus-themed table! You are invited to join me and my Monday Morning Blooms friends, Lidy @frenchgardenhouse Sarah @sjpa48 and Mary homeiswheretheboatsis.net by clicking the LINK in my bio!

Welcome to Sunshine Cottage where I have been fluf Welcome to Sunshine Cottage where I have been fluffing for Valentine’s Day! For many years my Sweetheart and I have celebrated February 14th at home where it is quiet, no reservations are required, and we always have a table by the window!

I love the traditional colors of red and pink! Frilly carnations fill a vintage Staffordshire, ‘Charlotte’ pitcher which rests on an antique Limoges plate with a velvet gold-crowned heart. The plate stack consists of a Royal Stafford ‘Asiatic pheasant’ dinner plate, American Atelier ‘Baroque’ luncheon/salad plate, Johnson Brothers, ‘Winchester’ salad plate, and a vintage pierced Bavarian rose plate! I am a huge fan of mixing colors, patterns, and textures for a collected look.

I have joined 17 table stylists for a Valentine’s Day Blog Hop. Click the LINK in my bio to see all of the Valentine inspiration!

Happy Tuesday! On this very cold winter’s day, I Happy Tuesday! On this very cold winter’s day, I am serving my favorite tea, Earl Grey, in the Sunshine Cottage where it is warm and cozy! The magic of dancing sunlight enhances the table that is dressed with a warm tartan plaid throw repurposed as a tablecloth! ‘Winter Fauna’ bird salad plates from Pottery Barn (many years ago and now discontinued) remind me of the birds I watch from my kitchen window during the winter season. The Grace Teaware set adds more blue and white to the Spode ‘Blue Room’ dinner plates. Sweet treats were placed on a stack of Bordallo Pinheiro plates! A darling Hummel ‘Icy Adventure’ depicts a scene of an outdoor frozen pond with a pair of sweet ice skaters, a rosy cheeked boy and girl who have fallen down on the ice.
