A morning of sunshine and blue sky seems even brighter and bluer after the previous day of clouds and snow!
A pleasant surprise as earlier rain changed to snow with a little altitude as we approached Highlands NC!
This forsythia was possibly also surprised by a late February snowfall.
It was perfect timing to arrive with no travel problems, have a day of snow, and then follow that up with several days of all sunshine!

This was beautiful and the colors made us feel “Christmasy” at least for a moment!
Neat courtyard areas were plentiful and none were crowded!
Leaves on Mountain Laurel collect a lot of snow!
These early bloomers probably don’t mind the white invader as long as it doesn’t hang around too long!
We were in Highlands at Old Edwards Inn for a few days to celebrate our 47th anniversary. Sitting together and rocking for a while did not seem altogether like a bad idea. But with 3 or more inches of snow to plop down on, we decided to move on to a place by a nice hot fire!
Step inside to a nice reminder that spring is only a month away!
Dessert is permissible when it’s your anniversary!

Happy Anniversary! I thought about you all day as the weather turned bad and am so glad you made it safely. You two kids look way too young for 47 years of marriage!! My favorite spot at the Old Edwards Inn is the outdoor restaurant, in the summer it is so cool and beautiful. Several times we have seen weddings in full Scottish regalia come out of that Episcopal church. John and I honeymooned in Highlands (too young and broke for anything more exotic!), so it holds a special place in my heart.

February snow is a gentle reminder that spring has not yet arrived. Though there are signs of spring appearing, the thermometer reminds us not to give up on winter.
Sometimes the first of March can be the worst part of winter.
