“A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.”
Proverbs 15:1
Hello sweet friends. We have enjoyed the most beautiful weather this week and have been able to complete several outside chores and projects. I am excited to report that some zinnia seeds were planted, but not all. Hopefully the seeds that have been planted will not wash away as our forecast calls for rain and some possible storms.
Today, I am celebrating strawberry season, in honor of the red juicy sweet fruit that is at the heart of so many wonderful desserts! Maybe we should proclaim another National Strawberry Day? The “official” day is February 27th but what is wrong with two? Or at least we could call it Regional Strawberry Day!
This photo is a few years old, but strawberry pickin’ is always a fun outing, especially when you eat a few straight from the vine!
I shared this photo on Sunday’s post, a basket of fresh strawberries from our local farm last year!
The farm opened a couple of weeks ago with Covid-19 regulations. Before this pandemic you could pick your own strawberries or buy them already picked. This year you can only purchase them that are pre-picked and they are delivered to your car.
The first day they opened there was traffic lined up on the country road for quite a distance with some people reporting they waited for two to three hours. That is how good their strawberries are. I decided I would allow things to settle down before heading to the farm. My plan was to go yesterday, but before leaving I checked their FaceBook page.
My version of strawberry shortcake…my Mother’s pound cake recipe, sweetened strawberries, and whipped cream. For the recipe, you can click here.
Strawberry tart at our favorite French Cafe, Chez Fonfon!
Strawberry cheesecake from Bottega Cafe. The above dessert and this one was baked by pastry chef, Dolester Miles who won the prestigious James Beard 2018 award for Outstanding Pastry Chef. Both restaurants are owned by Chef Frank Stitt, whose Highlands Bar and Grill won the James Beard 2018 award for Outstanding Restaurant in America. We love dining at all four of his Birmingham restaurants.
Fresh strawberry cake with cream cheese frosting was made for one of my floral presentations…Hydrangeas, Roses, & Strawberries.
A bowl of strawberries makes a beautiful presentation!
A pitcher of orange juice, sliced strawberries, with sprigs of mint is a perfect pick-me-up for anytime of day!
Strawberry cobbler is one of my favorite strawberry desserts!
An easy, but delicious dessert…Walker’s shortbread, Nutella, and a fresh strawberry!
The cutest berry in the patch! Two year old EM enjoying a vine-ripened berry.
What are your favorite recipes using strawberries? Perhaps, you may prefer just a bowl of sweetened berries. Thank you for your visits and gracious comments. Wishing you a “berry” delightful day!

Ella Mae IS the cutest berry in the patch but you’re pretty cute too in your hat and blue and white checked shirt toting your buckets of berries. 🙂 My heart goes out to the farmers and other small businesses whose livelihoods are impacted by this virus. I still drool when I see that beautiful strawberry cake! Is it any wonder I’m craving strawberries now?! Happy Thursday ♥
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you dear Mary. Yes, farmers are having a tough time. It has been so wet here, they will definitely get their crops in the ground late.
Sandra at Maison De Jardin says
Love this post, Pam. Brings back Virginia memories, there were ‘Pick Your Own’ strawberry fields everywhere. My favorite strawberry dessert would be strawberry shortcake, made with a good pound cake such as your mom’s. It can’t be beat, in my opinion. Yes, Ella Mae is truly the ‘cutest berry in the patch.’
Glad you are having nice spring weather, we are still cold and rainy here. Have a great day and weekend, dear friend. Enjoy those berries!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Sandra. I hope spring shows up soon in WV with all its beauty! Happy and safe weekend!
Alice Genzlinger says
May 8th is my dear sisters birthday and one of my greatest joys is to go to NC to share her day with her and going to pick strawberries with her. So I’m sad knowing flying there wouldn’t be best and it takes two days plus to drive there. Will this virus ever end? Starting EM early in the strawberry patch created precious memories for you and her. My favorite strawberry desert is called “Strawberry Shortcake Pumped Up” and it’s a winner. I’ll be glad to share it with you.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Alice, I love that you share memories with me. I would love if you would share your recipe with me.🍓

This whole post is to die for! My grandparents grew strawberries at their farm and I was a good picker because I was so low to the ground in those days! Now I have some strawberry plants and so far the leaves look perky so maybe I’ll bear fruit. Nothing like this thought — I don’t know if I’ll get enough to make a single shortcake but I will love every bite. Grocery strawberries are always like eating packing peanuts but those fresh picked from the ground are really wonderful. Lucky you! Oh, it looks like heaven!
Sandi Magle says
We had fresh strawberries grilled on French Toast this morning. Having not been shopping for over three weeks, I couldn’t resist a big container of strawberries. We love them on salads instead of tomatoes, too. And I think you have covered all the baking, lol. Strawberry Rhubarb is a favorite around here, also!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Sandi, your French toast with strawberries sounds so delicious. Stay healthy!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Being low to the ground is much preferred if you are picking strawberries. Thank you Jeanie!

Oh that sweet girl is a cute little strawberry. Love the pictures and I love strawberries. We have a strawberry farm about 45 minutes away from me and had all intentions on going with my girls and grands but there was a death in the owners family so could not go on day we had planned. My oldest grandgirl loves to go strawberry picking. Hugs and blessings, Cindy
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much Cindy. Wishing you a safe weekend dear one!
Roxanne Bernard says
Pam, you have me drooling for one of those fabulous desserts! I have 2 quarts in the fridge, so I’m feeling inspired. I had a beautiful strawberry patch years ago. I was out weeding it one evening, picked up the hose to throw it out of the way…it wasn’t a hose, it was a BIG black snake!!! That ended my farming career. I decided other people grew much better strawberries than I ever could. You and Ella Mae were quite the fashionistas in your berry picking outfits!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Roxanne, your mishaps and shenanigans could fill a book. Have you thought of writing one? Thank you my friend. Have a safe and happy weekend.
Shannon@Belle Bleu Interiors says
Oh my, all of those strawberry desserts look absolutely delicious! I adore strawberries! How I wish I had one of those yummy treats with my coffee this morning. There is nothing any better than cake for breakfast. Happy Thursday, sweet friend!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Shannon. I would always choose cake for breakfast. Have a wonderful weekend sweet friend 🍓

I think pound cake is my favorite cake and you can do soo much with it! It was my mother’s favorite too! I can’t wait to try your recipe. April is my favorite month — the flowers blooming, strawberry season, the birds singing. I would love to try your mother’s red velvet cake mentioned in the pound cake post. Take care and be safe and healthy.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you so much Kate. April is a beautiful month as spring unfolds.
Nancy says
I loved seeing you in the strawberry patch! You and Emma are the cutest berries out there!
All the desserts look delish but the shortbread with Nutella and strawberries are calling my name! Oooooooo I would love that with my coffee right now.
Strawberry Season in Pennsylvania is in June… I hope we will be able to get there by then. Still have no idea when… because of this darn virus!
Stay well my friend! And hugs to you!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Hopefully you will make strawberry season in PA this year. Stay well and hugs back to you🍓
Karen (Back Road Journal) says
You shared so many delicious and beautiful ways to enjoy strawberries but I think my favorite has always been a simple fresh strawberry shortcake with whipped cream. The strawberry season here in Florida is just ending and sadly I didn’t have a single berry this year.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Karen, I am so sorry you missed out on strawberry season. Stay safe!

EM with her bandana on is such an adorable pic; it should be used on the farm’s fb page! The strawberries look heavenly! The strawberry desserts look delicious! My mouth is watering. We usually eat ours with angel food cake baked fresh and served with whipped cream. We also incorporate them with other fruit around chicken salad. We’ll have to settle for store bought ones but they definitely won’t be as tasty as fresh from the farm! Have a wonderful day my friend ❣️ Clara ♥️
Pam @ Everyday Living says
I love strawberries with chicken salad or with a garden salad and poppy seed dressing. Thank you my friend ♥️🍓
Penny at Enjoying The Simple Things says
I love strawberries. It should be season here too, but I don’t know if there are any roadside stands open.

This pandemic has been hard on everyone, especially our farmers.

This is a strawberry lovers delight. I love strawberries and often serve with pound cake and and whipped cream. Your images are so inviting. Love seeing both you and Ella Mae in the strawberry field sampling the strawberries. Quite the treat for us today. Little blessings I have taken for granted comes into perfect view like going to the strawberry patch. Thank you for this beautiful post.

I have your beloved Mom’s recipe at hand and planned to make it with the strawberries, but have to check our farm stand.
What a privileged legacy to be called a Proverbs 31 woman…as she certainly was. Thank you for including the brand labels…often a key to success. I hear storms are slated for AL and pray all will be safe. You and EM make perky pickers…
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Mary! I highly recommend the pound cake with fresh strawberries or peaches. The bad weather has stayed south of us today.

dear friend, if I had to define in a few words your publication would be: “beauty and elegance of nature”
What you show is not only exquisite for the palate but it is exquisite for the soul, because when presenting such beautiful compositions with these beautiful and tasty fruits and those seductive cakes … the soul smiles …
I love the photos they are beautiful.
A big hug

I try to avoid white, refined sugar, so I have gotten used to eating strawberries with a little honey drizzled on them. After it soaks in and becomes syrupy, they are so delicious! I also love to make strawberry smoothies with vanilla yogurt, honey, and ice. I never met a strawberry I didn’t like and enjoy them any way I can get them! Your photos are SO beautiful. Would you care to share what type camera you use? Everything so always so vibrant and uplifting here. So thankful to visit with you today!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Strawberry smoothies sound delicious. Thanks so much Cheryl!

And Em looking so cute, hasn’t she has grown since then!
My favorite strawberry dish is our freshly grown strawberries on blueberry pancakes with maple syrup, topped with a dollop of Greek yogurt & flaked almonds, delicious!

All these look mouth-watering delicious! And love the sunshine you have shared. My mother made the best rhubarb strawberry pie and rhubarb strawberry crisp (which I think is much like cobbler). It’s been forever since I had this combination, and now inspired to make it a summer treat.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much for visiting. The rhubarb strawberry crisp sounds delicious…I love cobblers!

You are the cutest strawberry picker ever. I love strawberries, especially in desserts. I also love them with a savor balsamic drizzle. Happy springtime picking to you!

Yes, strawberries with a reduced balsamic drizzle are perfect!

Pam dear, I read your post early Thursday morning and had to hurry out to walk before it rained. By the time I got back I forgot I had not commented. So sorry to be late.
I enjoyed your lovely trip to the strawberry patch. Love your pics. I can taste how good the strawberries were.
I enjoyed seeing your strawberry cake and the pretty vignette with the blue and white vase filled with roses again. It is one of my favorites.
Now, I am dreaming of a fresh juicy sweet strawberry! Strawberry cake would be good too.
Have a great Sunday. It is a beautiful sunny day here but the wind is strong. The big trees in my yard are really swaying. I think we have winds at least 14 mph. It is cool unless you are sitting directly in the sun.
Blessings to you and Butch.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Bonnie. Our weather is the same, but 20 mph winds. It was just as strong yesterday. I sure wish we lived closer to one another!

My sister lives in North Carolina and was just talking about strawberry season today (and how different picking is this year). I LOVE strawberries but we don’t have them fresh until the summertime up here in New England. I don’t think I have a favorite recipe as I love just about anything with strawberries in them. I do have a tasty strawberry/ white chocolate chip cookie recipe that I love to use up those fresh strawberries we end up freezing for baking with later in the season.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
The strawberry/white chocolate chip cookie sounds wonderful! Thanks so much for your visits and wishing you a wonderful week!
Richella J. Parham says
YUM!! You’ve inspired me to check out the berry farms around here–hope I’m not too late to get some!
Thanks so much for joining the Grace at Home party at Imparting Grace. I’m featuring you this week!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you so much Richella. It is always an honor to be featured at Grace At Home!
Linda Primmer says
Strawberries are so good. Ella Mae is a cutie. Where we lived growing up, there was a strawberry field across the street. After the pickers were done, we could go in and pick our own.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much Linda and thank you for sharing your sweet memory!
