“Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! “For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor?” “Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid?” For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.”
Romans 11:33-36
So many simple, yet things of wonder to encounter on a drive through the country. There’s wonder because all things have a story!
The volunteer crop in one of last year’s cotton fields is not what you would normally consider if you set out to find some spring color, but we are glad we didn’t pass this by!
Add a blue sky background and this plant takes on elegance. Ella Mae would want a beaded necklace made out of this! Even if it is a weed, probably Heart-wing Sorrel; give credit where credit is due.
It has been a very good season for roses around our area.
A St Joesph’s lily that Pam’s mother planted many years ago. Pam looks forward to seeing this special plant bloom each year. It is fragrant and a staple in southern gardens.
I (Butch) call all our local creatures Pam’s pets. Not sure she likes the idea. This is her green anole checking out a newly spray painted bench!
This shrub has gorgeous blooms and is often overlooked. The Bristly Locust is native to our region …
…and it is clear to see why the name “bristly”!
A member of the pea family, it will have pods with seeds.
Briers (blackberries) competing with privet and a few other shrubs and vines to put on a flower show. The privet will bloom soon and it actually has a nice fragrance.
One of several varieties of oxalis growing around our yard. Did any of you chew on the leaves of this plant as a kid? Especially the variety with the yellow blooms? It has a lemony flavor and some of us guys would try it out occasionally. Pam had never heard of such! But it has medicinal properties and has been used for several ailments including some use by the Cherokee. We weren’t so crazy as kids after all!
Thanks to Appalachian Digital Media for a great waterfall pic made in northwest Georgia’s Cloudland Canyon State Park! Easy to practice social distancing there!

So interesting to see things that are different there from here, and some like oxalis that are the same.

Thanks my friend!

Butch, thank you for naming these plants and yes, we had the yellow variety of oxalis and yes we did chew it. But growing up in NC I wasn’t familiar with heart wing sorrel, bristly locust or st. Joseph’s lily. The heart wing sorrel is precious with its heart shaped flower. God made a beautiful earth and everything in it.

Amen, and yes He did!

Good morning Pam & Butch! The pictures are wonderful as usual. The lily is beautiful and I can understand why you enjoy seeing it because it’s your Mom’s. I have so enjoyed seeing my Mom’s irises as well. It does seem the colorful spring plants have been more vibrant this year. The bush roses are outstanding! I must agree with Pam that I have never heard of chewing yellow oxalis but nature does provide many medicinal options. The waterfall looks like a great spot to have a picnic. I can hear the water hitting the rocks. Stay safe sweet friends ❣️ Clara ♥️

Enjoyed all your blooms, the waterfall and especially the old barn. I always think old barns have stories to tell. I grew up on a farm and loved our barns…sometimes making a play house in part of one. Have a blessed Sunday and week ahead.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Dianne, we were driving down a country road yesterday morning when I spotted the barn. We turned around for me to get a photo. I know you love old barns. Wishing you and Bob a joy-filled week!

Good Sunday morning, Butch and Pam. The photos are lovely. I have never seen the St. Joseph’s Lily, what a treat for my eyes. It is gorgeous. I wouldn’t want that little green creature being referred to as one of my ‘pets.’ I remember them from my summers in Mississippi, they were everywhere and on everything. And, they moved too quickly for my liking.
Have a beautiful day and week ahead. Stay well, my friends.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you dear Sandra. Butch likes to tease me about all of our varmints and wildlife being my pets. Trust me they are not🤣. Have a beautiful week my friend♥️

His wonder in it all….. those lovely pictures…St. Joseph must be proud to lend his name to your Mom’s lily …. The heart winged sorrel, so subtle, the bristly locust, like baby orchids, the oxalis’ healing properties and pondering the history of that old barn… and oh the glory of that waterfall….Just the joy-filled treats needed to cheer this dim, rainy day. A blessed and
enriching Sunday be yours, dear Pam and Butch.

Thank you dear Mary. God has placed so much beauty on planet earth, if we will just open our eyes! I hope you are doing well!

Your opening scripture is so wonderful! The wild flowers are all so beautiful! Love the textures and colors in the second picture.
Your bench looks great white. Butch I need you to refresh my garden pieces.
Kudos for knowing the names of all the native bushes and wild flowers.
Happy Sunday!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Bonnie. Butch majored in biology and wanted to be a wildlife biologist. He really is smart when it comes to identifying plants, trees, etc. He has taught me so much about wildflowers and how to appreciate what I would have called weeds. Happy Sunday afternoon!

What beautiful photos…I’ve seen many of these blooms but did not know their names! I love the smell of privet blooms too but wow, is that stuff invasive along with honeysuckle. The waterfall looks like a wonderful spot to relax and picnic! It was another rough weekend here with yet another tornado touching down.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Roxanne, tornadoes are so very frightening. Was it close to you? Were people injured?
Roxanne Bernard says
Pam, the line of tornadoes passed about 5 miles of us once again and touched down in Greenville, causing a lot of damage. Thankfully, no lives were lost. We do not live in a “tornado belt”, so to have tornadoes on the ground on Easter and now once again is incredible. We watched on TV as a line moved across for 4 hours with many supercells, hail, etc but just a few miles away I could see the stars at my house. Why do they always come at night?
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Roxanne, we live in a very vulnerable area for tornadoes. The terrify me! I am thankful you are safe.

I so enjoyed your photos, Pam. I appreciate nature so much more now that we are staying inside, missing spring and all it’s glory.
