“The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.”
Zephaniah 3:17
Hello sweet friends. I hope your week is going well as we continue sheltering in our homes. We enjoyed gorgeous weather over the weekend, even though the winds were quite strong! With beautiful weather in progress, I am excited to share my first garden tablescape of the year. We have already been in the picnic area for several tables, but the garden is beginning to fill out and I couldn’t wait any longer to share a garden table. I have saved you a virtual seat for Quimper and wildflowers!
A couple of years ago my sweet blogging friend, Rita at Panoply, gifted me this beautiful vintage Quimper faience pottery in the “Soleil Yellow” pattern. With its sunny color, I thought it would be perfect for the first garden table of the season.
I decided on a simple tablescape allowing the wildflowers and the pottery to be the stars of the table.
The cobalt blue tablecloth complements the Quimper!
The pottery was manufactured sometime after 1930, most likely during WWII. It was a popular gift from soldiers, who were stationed in France, to their loved ones during that era.
Each piece is hand-painted and is made in the Brittany region of France. The octagonal shape of the plates adds more interest. On each plate are a male or female Breton, the countryside peasant people dressed in traditional attire.
I have been on three trips to France, but have never visited the Brittany region. It is now on my list of places to see.
My sweet Renaissance Man foraged our acreage and found lovely wildflowers for the table!
Noritake stemware highlights the blue on the Quimper faience.
White daisy fleabane, pinkish-lavender fleabane, butterweed, and a few daffodils make up the arrangement!
Man has created some lovely dwellings, some soul-stirring literature. He has done much to alleviate physical pain. But he has not…created a substitute for a sunset, a grove of pines, the music of the winds, the dank smell of the deep forest, or the shy beauty of a wildflower.

Thank you for your visits and gracious comments. Wishing you a delightful day!

I’m a follower but I’ve never before commented. Today however, I had to!
What a beautiful tablescape and what a wonderful friend who gave you the gorgeous Quimper dishes.
I love all Quimper pottery and have been collecting it for years. Most of my pieces are in the white or in the light blue background. Your yellow dishes and cups and saucers are amazing!
I was able to visit Brittany several years ago, on a trip with my sister. At the HB Henriot faience factory, we were like two children set loose in a candy shop. In addition to the wonderful pieces, the staff is lovely and they will gladly package and ship your purchases for a small fee. I encourage you to visit Brittany!

Ana Maria, I am so glad you commented. I would love to see your Quimper collection, it sounds outstanding. How wonderful that you and your sister visited Brittany and the HB Henriot faience factory. Did you purchase and have shipped home? Thanks so much for sharing with me.

Ana Maria, you should join the Quimper Club International. Visit the web page. We would welcome you. It is a great group of collectors.

Good Tuesday to you, Pam & Butch! It makes me so happy to see the Quimper being utilized for a tablescape, and in the garden no less! The blues of the stems and tablecloth (beautiful!) really do complement the pattern, and the wildflowers tie it all together. I’m happy you accepted the Quimper. The fact that you’ve been to France three times makes it more meaningful as a token memory. Your garden landscape could easily pass for a French countryside with just a tiny bit of imagination. It’s filling in so beautifully. I realize it’s loads of work, but it’s such a wonderful place to enjoy once the work of early spring is complete. I’m looking forward to seeing many more tablescapes in your outdoor spaces.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Rita, I could never thank you enough for the beautiful Quimper. My precious daughter-in-love fell in love with the pottery when she first saw it and said I sure hope you will give that to me one day. I was surprised because she had never asked for anything. I loved putting together this simple table.
Sarah says
Oh, my Quimper loving heart is thrilled to know your DIL loves Quimper. The Soleil is one of my favorite patterns. The happy, sunny yellow can’t help but put a smile on one’s face. I love your setting in the garden and the blue textiles and details. The wildflowers are a perfect touch!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much Sarah. I love Quimper and was thrilled when Rita gifted me this set of Soleil!

The Broome quotation speaks so much truth and fills me up. Children raised in big cities and never given the opportunity to walk in the woods have missed one of God’s greatest creations. There are many treasures to be found on those walks and the smell is wonderful. I grew up going for walks with my grandmother through the woods with her teaching me about the smallest details that make up the woods.
I love your tablecloth, the wild flowers and Quimper. Are those bees on the tablecloth? I would have a fit to find one like it. i
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Alice, I discovered that Harvey Broome played a key role in the establishment of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. He certainly loved and understood the importance of the wooded areas and to preserve them. Butch and I are studying all of the native wildflowers in our area and it is fascinating. Yes, those are bees. I bought several of the tablecloths on clearance at Williams Sonoma years ago. I use them when we are having outdoor parties!
Sandra at Maison De Jardin says
Pam, your table is gorgeous. And, oh, the Quimper Ware is beautiful set on the deep blue tablecloth. What an absolute treat it would be to enjoy being a guest at your table in your lovely garden. I must not fail to mention your flowers are so pretty and are perfect for your setting.
Have a wonderful week, stay well, my friend.

Oh Pam, how absolutely stunning. Loved learning about the Quimperware. To see it in yellow is a delight. I have two plates in my shelf with a yellow rim-one of a man, one of a woman. I bought them for myself after 9/11. A good friend died in the Trade Center and she loved Quimperware so I bought it as reminder of her. Thank you for another beautiful glimpse into your world. God Bless.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Ruthie. Thank you for sharing the poignant story of your pieces of Quimper. I love to know more about my friends that read the blog. May God bless you!

This tablescape is delightful in every way! The pretty wildflowers in the yellow pitcher were perfect for your table. I love knowing the names of the wildflowers. The cobalt tablecloth was a good choice to compliment the Quimper! I was thinking about that pattern yesterday.
Profound quote about wildflowers and other things.
Thanks for a pleasant start to my day.
Pinning!

Thank you dear Bonnie. Butch and I have become fascinated by wildflowers. We have them all over our property and the 250 acres that Butch oversees!
Roxanne Bernard says
Oh my goodness, what an unbelievable gift from Rita! It does look like you are in the countryside of France. I never, never get tired of my favorite combo of yellow and blue. And I am loving learning the names of these wildflowers. It appears I have a bumper crop of poison ivy growing in my woods. Pam, where did you find that beautiful trelliage I spy in the background?
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Roxanne, blue and yellow make a great pairing. Beware of the poison ivy! I have a couple of the tuteurs, treillages, or whatever we want to call them 🤣🤣. I bought them years ago to use for a wedding! I love them!

Hello Dear Pam,
My goodness what a special friend Rita is to have gifted you such a lovely set of Quimper! I remember her purge and I was able to purchase a darling little tulip planter from her. She had the most delightful selection of goodies!
Naturally I adore every single detail of this table-setting and the fact that you are enjoying the beauty of the Southern outdoors to this magnitude.
Such a sweet and natural bouquet of wildflowers and underneath all of this stunning Spring beauty is the tablecloth!
Well you know this certainly added to my Tuesday afternoon joy.
Blessings to you sweet friend,

O Pam, one does not have to close one’s eyes to imagine being in France, there it sits on that tablescape. The flowers were chosen and set with a florist’s eye, Butch. Your sunshine yellow Quimper is so cheerful and that beautiful cloth is a perfect foil for highlighting it on cobalt blue. Rita could not have found a more receptive and deserving friend to bless with such lovely pottery and you were blessed with the gift of her generous friendship. The joyful stories that your pictures tell and these are particularly beautiful and nostalgic. Viva la…..
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you dear Mary. I do have to compliment Butch, I could never do this blog without him. Happy Thursday!

Oh my goodness, this is so charming and beautiful! I love the cobalt from the tablecloth with the yellow from the pottery! The colors remind me of seaside towns, and as I have been looking back at my trip to the Amalfi Coast trip, where lemons and sparkling blue water are both abundant, the color combo has been on my mind!! The garden backdrop is perfection. This would be the most relaxing and sweet meal amidst such beauty!

This is a beautiful tablesetting – classic and elegant in a very simple way! I love the colors of the plates along with the beautiful tablecloth. When my Grandmother went to France, she brought Quimper home with her for my Mother. They are both gone, and now and I am keeper of the Quimper! I honestly do not use it much, but the memories it holds for me are very precious. Visiting from Between Naps on the Porch Monday Metamorphosis.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much for your visit Kristine. How lovely that you are the third generation and keeper of the Quimper.
