“The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him.”
Lamentations 3:25
Anyone care for a buttercup? Cattle and horses don’t like them and we understand they are toxic except in dried form (hay). Cows in this pasture may have to wander a bit to find something to munch on!
We forget about these irises until they surprise us and pop up on the road embankment near our house every year. They are in close proximity to an old home place and probably escaped from there. We’ve never been sure of their identity. They look a little like an iris called sintenisii but maybe they are a dwarf iris or Dutch iris? Y’all let us know what you think.
It’s easy to see why this tree is commonly referred to as a tulip tree. These fast growing trees are in the Magnolia family!
Because the blooms are on a tree and usually not at eye level they are often overlooked!
Big sister was providing a steady rock, but EK was not fond of the idea and was ready to travel on her own!
If little sister doesn’t appreciate rocking then EM may as well sit and pose!
The fragrances of May sure fills up our senses. Great time to be outdoors and slightly downwind from honeysuckle!
Our friends a little further north have blue grass. We have blue-eyed grass. It is not really a grass but gets the name from grass-like foliage. This is actually in the iris family.
This hosta is very near our bedroom window and we decided to give it a showing. We spotted a deer a few yards away a couple of evenings ago and persuaded it to leave temporarily. Deer love hosta so we figure it is a matter of time until these are no longer flourishing!
We are hoping the frog courtship is winding down as these guys are very noisy when wanting to attract attention. Maybe this is a good sign, resting on a hosta bed! The frog hammock is also susceptible to being devoured overnight!
We eased up to Cherokee Rock Village on Lookout Mountain only minutes from our house and took in the great views of Weiss Lake. The parking area was closed but we parked outside the gate. Social distancing was not a problem since we were the only people there.
We call this portion of Weiss “powerhouse lake” for obvious reasons. (Well, you will need to zoom in for it to be obvious here). We live about 4 miles southwest of the “powerhouse”, as the crow flies!

I don’t think I have ever seen a tulip tree. Really beautiful. You have provided us a lot of beauty on this Sunday morning. The girls are so precious. What a blessing for you. I hope the deer will stay away from your hosta. Blessings dear friends.

Hi Dianne. The tulip tree is in front of our house, they are pretty trees. Wishing you and Bob a joy-filled Sunday!

Good morning! And a beautiful Sunday morning it is here in S.C. The prettiest flowers in your garden are Ella Mae and Emma! The picture of the little frog on the hosta is fantastic. have a big bed of those irises, started years ago from a few transplants. The dear friend who gave them to me called them Louisiana irises. Last year Publix was selling 6 blooms for $4.00 in florals! Just took a morning stroll around the yard and discovered honeysuckle twining through many of my azaleas. If anybody has a good suggestion for getting it out, I would love to hear it please.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Good morning Roxanne. Thank you, we sure love our little girls. Thanks for the info on the irises. I will ask Butch when he gets back about the honeysuckle, he and our son are out in the woods this morning. The honeysuckle isn’t in our yard but is all over our woods next to the picnic table, it smells heavenly, but can take over. Have a lovely Sunday my friend!

Good morning Pam and Butch! It’s a joy to see all the beautiful pictures. Your precious girls just bring a smile to my face. The hostas we have are eaten by deer & bunnies usually until I tried putting coffee grounds around them and a few egg shells blended up. That seems to work pretty well. That little frog better be careful or it will be an appetizer! Weiss lake from your vantage point is such a perfect picnic spot. We could have as used it yesterday as we were eating a pizza in the parking lot under a shade tree with a nice breeze. It was nice to get out of the house! Just goes to show you how desperate we’re getting! 😂 Enjoy your Sunday! Clara♥️
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Good morning Clara. Thank you for your sweet words. I will try your suggestion about the Hosta. Clara, if only you lived close by, we have beautiful places to picnic. Getting out does help our spirits. Wishing you a joy-filled day ♥️

Happy Sunday! All of the pretty blooms you share always brighten my day! We have so many Hostas popping up, but I’m just waiting on them to disappear during the night. I’ve decided to transplant some to pots with maiden hair vine on the porch. Hopefully, the deer won’t find them there. Enjoy your day, dear friend!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you sweet Shannon. I may transfer some to pots also. Have a joy-filled day sweet friend!

Dear Pam, what a grand post. Outside of the girls, my favorite is the tulip tree. Those trees are all over WV and I never knew they bloomed. My mom even had a lovely one shading our patio. And the bloom is beautiful. It is always wonderful to learn new things. Now, to those precious girls. Emma has quite the determined look on her sweet face and dear Emma is more adorable with every photo. I wonder, Pam – how many photos would you say you would have of those girls?
I enjoyed seeing the honeysuckle and the fragrance is such a sweet gift. I am waiting for our honeysuckle on our arbor to bloom, it was planted last summer.
Again, Pam, a beautiful post. Wishing you and yours a happy and beautiful day. ❤
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Sandra. I have to admit, I had never noticed the blooms on the tulip tree until a week ago and it sits in our front yard. Butch couldn’t believe I had never noticed them. There aren’t any lower limbs and they are hard to see because they blend in with the leaves. He was so sweet to get on a ladder to get the up close photo. Isn’t it exciting that we keep learning so much about God’s creation? I probably have thousands of photos of the girls, I can’t help myself♥️ You will enjoy the honeysuckle on your arbor. Happy Sunday my friend♥️

for Sunday viewing. First time I have seen a tulip tree blossom and thank you, Butch, for that. Another sweet gift
from the Lord. The view from Lookout Mountain is such an encompassing reason why it holds myriad opportunities for clicking the camera…You are indeed fortunate to be surrounded by such compelling sights. Your weather looks ideal and doesn’t that little frog know how to relax veg out? Bless you, Pam, for bringing us this visual Sunday devotion.

I have Hostas also & bought Milorganite (Nitrogen Fertilizer) to keep the deer away. Didn’t know if you knew about this. We were spraying them but the sprinkler system would wash off the liquid when it came on. Found this at our ACE Hardware.
Enjoy reading your blog.

Lovely post. Are the blue flowers spider wart? I have several places in my natural area that they grow.
The pictures of the girls are so sweet. You catch great expressions.
Butch you do a great job on Sundays. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.
Thanks for all the wildflowers and info.
There are a number of deer deterrent plants that could grow near your tempting hostas. Mine seem to get holes in them from bugs.
Happy Sunday! It is another gorgeous day at my house. Hope it is at yours too.

Jenna, Butch tells me that the tulip tree often called a yellow poplar is one of the most common trees found in the South. Their leaves are shaped like tulips. The blooms are hard to see, they blend into the tree. We do have wonderful spaces and nearby lakes and river. It is a beautiful area!
