“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.””
John 16:33
Hello sweet friends. I hope your Mother’s Day was as wonderful as possible with our current situation. My sweet hubby grilled hamburgers (a personal favorite) and we took lunch to my Daddy’s to enjoy with him. The weather has been absolutely amazing. As I keep saying, this is the prettiest spring in my recent memory. It was unseasonably cool last week with a couple of mornings of light frost. The days have been most pleasant, in the mid 60’s to low 70’s.
Not only has the spring been glorious, but so have the wildflowers. I set a very simple tablescape next to our wooded picnic area with a vase of wildflowers as the centerpiece. I saved you a virtual seat for a symphony of birdsong and the sweet fragrance of honeysuckle and privet!
“Botanic Garden” dinner plates by Portmeirion were chosen to complement the wildflowers. Portmeirion artist Susan Williams-Ellis came up with the idea for Botanic Garden in 1972 when she was looking through rare books and discovered a 19th century volume of beautiful, meticulously drawn floral illustrations…Hydrangea Macrophylla (Hydrangea)…
…Lathyrus Odoratus (Sweet Pea). With its delightful mix of floral motifs and signature leaf border, Botanic Garden is a true British classic. Each plate bears the common and scientific name.
My favorite candle stands have found their way to the table once again!
Who says rabbits are only for Easter! The rabbits that are constantly seen in my yard disregard the myth that they are only Easter decor. My Renaissance Man found a couple hiding in the garden recently. Ella Mae was so glad it wasn’t Mr. McGregor that found them.
The gorgeous orchid-like bloom is from the bristly locust found growing in our woods. We discovered their blooms last year and I couldn’t wait for them to bloom this year.
Located next to a grove of pine trees, the rustic picnic table has wonderful shade for most of the day. The table was kept simple to allow the wildflowers to be the star!
“Wild flowers don’t care where they grow.”
-Dolly Parton
The wild, free flowing, and loosely arranged wildflowers are the bristly locust, privet (smells so sweet but considered a menace and highly invasive), yellow hawkweed (growing in one of our pastures), and fragrant honeysuckles growing everywhere.
“There is poetry among the wildflowers.”
-Rachel Irene Stevenson
If you pay attention to the stem, you know why it is called “bristly” locust. The pendant clusters of fragrant rose-pink flowers are attractive to bees and butterflies in mid and late spring.
The showy bristly locust flowering shrub grows to eight feet tall and wide. It is native to the Southeastern United States.
Thank you for your lovely visits and gracious comments. Wishing you a delightful day!

Wow Pam, this is my favorite table so far this year. Pink and green being my all time favorite combination. And the lose wild flower arrangement is stunning in the green urn. Gods garden of flowers can’t be beat. If I was a rabbit I’d hide out in your garden also. Have a Blessed day.

Thank you Alice. I have enjoyed foraging for wildflowers, you never know what you will find. Wishing you a wonderful day!

Delightful table. I sense your enjoyment of foraging for wild flowers together with Butch and learning the names. How fitting to use Botanic Garden plates. It is nice to have both the common name and botanical name on the plates.
I am intrigued by the bristly locust scrub. I have not seen it before. The orchid like bloom is gorgeous.
Your runner accented the floral arrangement perfectly. I like the rabbits on your table also.
The weather has been so very nice. I am so thankful. Have a lovely week.
I finally finished my post on birds.

Loved this blog – bringing up so many memories of my childhood, when honeysuckles grew wild all along our road. We would open them up and taste the honey (or perhaps just our imagination!). Love how you paired the flowers to match your Portmeirion dishes. I have the bowls and a large bowl that match this set. It always makes the meal more special. Thanks for sharing – Blessings

Loving the pink and greens Pam and wildflowers always catch my eye. I bet your daddy enjoyed having a good old hamburger with you. I haven’t had a grilled burger in a while. Maybe it’s time to grill some up. Nothing better than an old fashion grilled hamburger is there? Hope you have a great week dear Pam. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

Good morning, dearest Pam! What a beautiful arrangement! You’ve inspired me to go out with the clippers this morning and forage for wildflowers. I’ve never seen bristly locust around here, but it is gorgeous. I love the color of your candles and those beautiful candlesticks. It has been so cool and breezy here too, I actually wrapped up in a blanket to sit on the porch yesterday. Now they are saying it will be near 90 by the weekend! Have a splendid day!!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Good morning Roxanne. Yes, take the clippers and forage, just be careful my friend. It is supposed to be in the upper 80’s here by the end of the week. Have a wonderful week dear one!

This is breathtaking Pam, so stunning! The flowers definitely are the star of the show, gorgeous arrangement! I agree, bunnies aren’t just for Easter and they are welcome any time. I love the fresh green palette accented with blue, pink, and yellow in your lovely Botanic Garden plates. The candlesticks are perfect and beautiful! Is there anything better than a grilled hamburger, one of my favorites too! Thank you for making the world an even more beautiful place with your uplifting posts and incredible tablescapes 💕

Love your alfresco table Pam. I really like the locust blooms; they’re beautiful. Your wildflower bouquet is so colorful and cheerful. It’s amazing how many wildflowers you have available to use and enjoy in bouquets. I’ve purposely been enjoying the wildflowers more thanks to your wonderful posts.
We’ve been blessed to have a glorious Spring! It has really helped during the lockdown. Happy Tuesday! Clara ♥️

Your wildflower arrangement and botanical plates are a beautiful combination. The pinks and greens do lift our spirits. Your rustic table situated near the rustic fence makes for a beautiful setting. Your arrangement is perfectly beautiful. It too makes me want to forage for some beautiful wildflowers. It has been so cold here. I have been covering my plants almost every night. We do expect warmer temperatures later this week. Have a good week.

Thank you sweet Dianne. Have a delightful day my friend!

As usual, your flowers are gorgeous and your table is lovely. I have completely lost my desire for tablescaping. With no one to visit, I’ve just left up the one from last month. I need to change it, to keep things fresh, but my inspiration is gone, particularly with all the freezing temperatures we’ve had killing off the flowers. But it is going to warm up later in the week, so we will see.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Carole. It has been harder to be inspired during this time, hopefully things will return to some form of normalcy soon!

Your foraged wildflower bouquet makes a beautiful centerpiece on your picnic table Pam. So pretty with your Portmeirion Botanic Garden, which you know I love! I love bunnies but we’re about to be over run with them. They’re living under my Potting Shed and eating all the new tender growth on the perennials. I’m afraid I’m going to turn into Mrs. McGregor…don’t tell Ella Mae 🙂
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Mary. I understand your pain with the rabbits, I expect they will be nibbling or chewing down on the garden. Gardening is not for the faint-hearted!

Rustic classic or classic rustic…take your pick… but in either case what a charming and welcoming outdoors table scape.
The rabbits, candle sticks and dishes are perfect appointments to that lush centerpiece of wildflowers.
I imagine your dear Dad relished those grilled hamburgers and trimmings. Sometimes simple is most delectable.
Love your EM McGregor observation…so sweet.

Your bouquet of wildflowers is so beautiful and made my heart go pitter patter. I seeded one of my flower beds with wild flowers for the first time and I so hope within a couple of months I too can have a gorgeous wildflower bouquet on my dining table.
