Hydrangeas In A Box

June 1, 2020~ Everyday Living, Faith, Monday Morning Blooms

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”
‭‭John‬ ‭14:27‬ ‭

Happy June sweet friends. Not only is it the first day of a new month, it is the first Monday of the month and that means Monday Morning Blooms. In our troubled and disturbing times, hopefully Shirley, Lidy, Mary, and I can brighten your day with flowers!

“It was June, and the world smelled of roses. The sunshine was like powdered gold over the grassy hillside.”
-Maud Hart Lovelace

I would have a hard time choosing a favorite flower, but hydrangeas would be in my top three!

There are so many varieties to choose and I have never met one that I didn’t love!

The links for beautiful flower therapy are at the bottom of this post.

One of the easiest ways to arrange flowers is in a wooden or metal box. I placed small jelly/jam jars inside and secured with plastic bags to keep the jars in place. After filling the jars with water and flower preservative, I begin arranging making sure to fill in all the gaps. It is especially important to cut your hydrangea stems on an angle, so there is more surface area for drinking water. Cutting hydrangeas in the morning is always best.

I am always on the lookout for wooden boxes…this Harry & David box was a Christmas delivery. The wood was natural, so I brushed a light coat of white acrylic paint, then wiped off with paper towel before it could dry. You can still see the grain, which was my desired effect. Easy…easy!

Last Friday morning I traveled to the hydrangea farm to visit with my dear friend and flower grower, Martha. She had the golf cart on standby, I jumped in and off we went to the fields. Hydrangeas are late blooming this year, normally her fields would be loaded with blooms. Martha carefully selected five different varieties…Snowflake, Nikko, Invincibelle Spirit, Let’s Dance, and Annabelle. Some were not fully bloomed, but it makes for an interesting arrangement.

As you see different angles of the box…

…the five varieties are evident!

Since I love floral linens for a garden table, I often choose from April Cornell’s beautiful English garden style collection. “Victorian Rose” graces the table.

Sweet contentment is found in setting a garden table on a late afternoon as the sun begins its journey to meet the horizon and the air starts to cool.  The symphony of birdsong fills the air and the sweet fragrance of gardenia is carried on the gentle breeze.

The plate stack includes: American Atelier “Baroque” charger, Royal Stafford “Asiatic Pheasant” dinner plate, AA “Baroque” salad plate, and Johnson Brothers “Rose Chintz” dessert plate with vintage Fostoria stemware.

“He has made everything beautiful in its time…”
Ecclesiastes 3:11a

Pam, You have the most gorgeous collection of April Cornell linens! Your box of hydrangeas from the flower farm is perfectly paired with your Victorian Rose tablecloth for a table in your garden! What a great way to repurpose your gifted Harry and David box for a centerpiece too. I have the porch door and windows open this morning, enjoying the cooler temperatures and am listening to birdsong instead of the news. As always it’s a treat to join you for some flower therapy and MMB. Happy June ♥

Oh Pam, this is so beautiful. Is there any more incredible blue than that found in hydrangeas? When I visited Gibbs Gardens the hydrangeas were in full bloom. The flowers are paired beautifully with your table setting…as fresh as the breeze wafting through your garden! Yesterday I found a large stand of flourishing zinnias that had self sown in the lawn. My dilemma…mow around them, mow them down, or try to transplant?

Pam, this beautiful display was the perfect thing to greet me this morning! I brightens my day and makes me smile. I adore hydrangeas. We have been planting them like crazy around our gardens! Many are loaded with buds getting ready to bloom. Your pretty rosebud chintz china reminds me of my grandmother’s Spode rosebud chintz. They are both very similar. Your closing quote is perfect and so well written. I also have to tell you, your opening verse is one I turn to often when I am troubled or upset. I join you in praying for peace and healing. Take care, sweet friend!

Pam, your table is fabulous from the tablecloth to the blooms. My Annabelle hydrangeas are always in full bloom on hubby’s birthday, June 17. But not this year, they are just setting on their blooms and they are about the size of a penny. However, I will be happy to see them when they arrive.
I love the rosebud chintz, it always tugs at my heart when I see it. Pam, I certainly join you in praying for peace for our land. Do stay well and have a beautiful week.

Pam dear, what beauty you show us with these wonderfully presented hydrangeas. I love the wooden container and the color and everything … It is a very elegant and simple presentation, it is beautiful.
I really like flowers, at home I have flowers everywhere, sometimes they are natural and others are made of fabric, but the point is to have flowers. When they are natural and planted, I talk to them and if they get a flower, I congratulate and pamper them … they are like my daughters.
Yesterday you asked me if I had already been with my daughter and my grandchildren, and I say yes. Yesterday I invited them to dinner and we had a great time. Dinner is early, around 8 in the afternoon that there is still a wonderful sun. It is usually at night shortly after 10 pm

He was seriously wounded in the Korean War and was awarded a Purple Heart and two bronze stars. Upon returning home, he married my beautiful Mother and they shared 54 wonderful years together before she passed away suddenly.

My brother and I grew up in a Christian home, bathed in love, calm, security, and contentment, under the care of the two finest parents anyone could have. Daddy was known as Pawpaw to his three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

My heart is broken, he was the best Daddy a girl could have. I know he is present with the Lord and I rejoice in that promise, knowing too, that my Mother is also in the eternal presence of our Heavenly Father.

Welcome to Sunshine Cottage and the March edition Welcome to Sunshine Cottage and the March edition of Tea on Tuesdays. My inspiration for teatime is the beautiful linens from @april.cornell With the celebration of their 50th anniversary, many Heritage Prints from the archives have returned. Eden is one of the beautiful patterns that has returned. It is a soft purple paradise where butterflies float, roses bloom, and soft sage leaves levitate. As an April Cornell Brand Ambassador, I was gifted these gorgeous linens! I have been a collector of @april.cornell linens for many years…the floral patterns resonate with my love of English Country.

I am serving my favorite, Earl Gray tea, from an Eileen’s Reserve teapot. Teacups by Grace Teaware and vintage Rose Chintz salad plates by Johnson Brothers add more floral patterns to the mix. Japanese Magnolia blooms were cut from my garden and placed in a lilypad teapot!

Mary @ homeiswheretheboatis.net and I welcome Nancy @nance_endless_summer as our special guest! LINK in bio for the blog posts. Have a wonderful day!

Happy Monday! With March bringing the promise of s Happy Monday! With March bringing the promise of spring and looking forward to our garden awakening, I planted a blooming bulb garden in my Sunshine Cottage! The butcher block countertop under a window, was a perfect place for a mini garden. Muscari, hyacinths, tulips, and daffodils danced in the sunlight and filled the cottage with an amazing fragrance!

Happy Tuesday! Welcome to the Sunshine Cottage whe Happy Tuesday! Welcome to the Sunshine Cottage where it is warm and cozy on this cold February day. It is Tea on Tuesdays and I have set a tea table with the “Blue Roses” collection that was a collaboration between @victoriamagazine and @april.cornell The exclusive porcelain pattern and matching linens have been used many times and I still enjoy their blue and white beauty. Instead of fresh flowers, porcelain ones require no arranging. Sweet treats pair perfectly with a traditional English Breakfast tea. Happy first Monday of February! After so many cold Happy first Monday of February! After so many cold days, we are experiencing a tease of spring with a 73 degree day that is forecast. After the gray and cloudy days, I needed a dose of color and decided to set a colorful citrus themed brunch! Using a bird gold and pewter stand, I mixed a citrus medley of lemons, oranges, and limes with pink and white carnations as the centerpiece. The table is highlighted with blue and white dishware. Fresh squeezed orange juice, French-pressed coffee and sweet treats of lemon poppyseed muffins, lemon cake with lemon icing, and lemon pastries are perfect for a small brunch. A faux lemon topiary belonged to my beloved Mother and seemed a perfect addition to a citrus-themed table! You are invited to join me and my Monday Morning Blooms friends, Lidy @frenchgardenhouse Sarah @sjpa48 and Mary homeiswheretheboatsis.net by clicking the LINK in my bio!

Welcome to Sunshine Cottage where I have been fluf Welcome to Sunshine Cottage where I have been fluffing for Valentine’s Day! For many years my Sweetheart and I have celebrated February 14th at home where it is quiet, no reservations are required, and we always have a table by the window!

I love the traditional colors of red and pink! Frilly carnations fill a vintage Staffordshire, ‘Charlotte’ pitcher which rests on an antique Limoges plate with a velvet gold-crowned heart. The plate stack consists of a Royal Stafford ‘Asiatic pheasant’ dinner plate, American Atelier ‘Baroque’ luncheon/salad plate, Johnson Brothers, ‘Winchester’ salad plate, and a vintage pierced Bavarian rose plate! I am a huge fan of mixing colors, patterns, and textures for a collected look.

I have joined 17 table stylists for a Valentine’s Day Blog Hop. Click the LINK in my bio to see all of the Valentine inspiration!

Happy Tuesday! On this very cold winter’s day, I Happy Tuesday! On this very cold winter’s day, I am serving my favorite tea, Earl Grey, in the Sunshine Cottage where it is warm and cozy! The magic of dancing sunlight enhances the table that is dressed with a warm tartan plaid throw repurposed as a tablecloth! ‘Winter Fauna’ bird salad plates from Pottery Barn (many years ago and now discontinued) remind me of the birds I watch from my kitchen window during the winter season. The Grace Teaware set adds more blue and white to the Spode ‘Blue Room’ dinner plates. Sweet treats were placed on a stack of Bordallo Pinheiro plates! A darling Hummel ‘Icy Adventure’ depicts a scene of an outdoor frozen pond with a pair of sweet ice skaters, a rosy cheeked boy and girl who have fallen down on the ice.
