“He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?”
Micah 6:8
Hello sweet friends. I have had such a heavy heart and wasn’t sure if I should post or not. God’s Holy Word always has the answers, but it seems that I often go everywhere else before I go to the One who knows and loves me best. The scripture at the top ask the question, what is good? What does the Lord require of me?
Do justice. Love kindness. Walk humbly with my God.
If those of us who are followers of Jesus would be obedient to this scripture, it would certainly change the climate of our land. May these words burn in my heart and may the change begin in me.
During the last three months of difficult times, I have strived to share a message of hope and beauty in our everyday living. It is always my desire to encourage you.
“If all flowers wanted to be roses, nature would lose her springtime beauty and the fields would no longer be decked out with little wildflowers.”
-Therese of Lisieux
My Renaissance Man and I have become extremely interested in finding and identifying wildflowers. You may have noticed our many wildflowers in our spring Simple + Southern Sunday posts. I have made two wildflower arrangements for recent tablescapes here and here. Today I am paying homage to Queen Anne’s Lace, one of my favorite wildflowers!
Queen Anne’s Lace grows wild over virtually all of the continental United States. You will see it along roadsides, ditches, overgrown fields, or patches of disturbed soil. It is also known by the names of Wild Carrot or Bird’s Nest.
The legend of Queen Anne…
Queen Anne was tatting white lace. Does anyone tat anymore? It seems to be a lost art. Sorry I digressed from the story. The beautiful white lace she was tatting became the white lacy flowers of the wild carrot plant. She pricked her finger and one drop of blood fell. That became the central dark red or purple floret that is present on some, but not all Queen Anne’s Lace flowers. Legends disagree as to which Queen Anne was tatting such lovely lace. Note the dark reddish/purplish floret in the above photo.
With the prolific wildflower in bloom, it was easy to cut and make a sweet arrangement to enjoy on the picnic table.
I am astonished at the intricate detail…
…by opening our eyes to the wonder of God’s amazing creation!
The flowers really look like lace!
“Wildflowers don’t care where they grow.”
-Dolly Parton
Queen Anne’s lace was brought to North America by early European settlers as a medicinal herb. Parts of the plant are mentioned by herbalists as a diuretic.
“There is poetry among the wildflowers.”
-Rachel Irene Stevenson
Is it an herb, a weed, or a wildflower?
I choose to call it a beautiful wildflower…
…and it makes for a lovely and free bouquet!
I love mixing Queen Anne’s Lace with other flowers. To view the original post click here.
Thank you for your kind visits and gracious comments. I continue to pray for healing and peace in our land.

I grew up on a farm and the field beside our house was full of Queen Anne’s Lace in the summer. I always thought it looked like snow. It was beautiful! I never knew the legend behind it. That’s so interesting!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Hi Michelle, Queen Anne’s Lace pops up everywhere! I do love seeing it covering a field! Thank you for your visit!

Growing up in KY. As a little girl I loved wildflowers, but Queen Ann’s lace was one my mother wouldn’t let us play with, she said they had chiggers, lol
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Joyce, I read that somewhere. The insects do seem to love the flower! Have a lovely day!
Linda says
You are right about Queen Ann’s lace mixing well with other flowers. The only thing I don’t like about is is how tiny white particles find their way to whatever surface they are on. What I do like is how available it is once it starts blooming.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Linda, it does make a little mess. Have a wonderful weekend.

Thank you pointing us once again to God’s beautiful creations. That is refreshing in today’s storms. I also think your words of acknowledging your heavy heart and then praying for our nation is so much better than giving your opinion on our nation’s troubles. I have seen several bloggers get terrible comments from their readers. Of course some readers are just going to be nasty anyway. The blogs I read about home decor, flower arranging and cooking are to get away from the ever-present news broadcasts. I will keep praying for our nation. Our God is in control!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much Nancy. I feel that we have enough opinions, I just want people to know I care deeply and I know that prayer is always the answer! Wishing you a lovely day!

The scripture you chose is perfect Pam, I knew you would have the right words to share with us today. I loved hearing the legend of Queen Anne’s lace, it is an incredible gift from Mother Nature…I always love the attitude of wild flowers, they happily grow in any area, and bring beauty. You are so lucky to have so many right there, the vase on your picnic table looks wonderful!

Do justice. Love kindness. Walk humbly with my God. These words have been with me for days now. Queen Anne’s lace is so beautiful in fields everywhere. Years ago I did a wedding reception for a young girl who could not afford one. I got a group of her Mother’s friends together and she had a beautiful reception. We had some beautiful flowers but at the last minute one of them brought in bundles of Queen Anne’s lace. These beautiful flowers completed our floral arrangements. This sweet girl went on to medical school and is a successful doctor. So glad you gave this beautiful flower a place of honor on your blog. Like you, I am searching my heart and repeating the words in Micah.
Blessings to you wonderful friend.

Let us all bind this Micah verse to our hearts and trust that in the eternal scheme of things, His
Will will prevail and that He desires what is best for us. The peace of heart that comes from that
spirit of trust has already been purchased at great price and available to those who seek it. Let
not our hearts be troubled. Like Queen Anne’s Lace, let us just bloom where we are planted.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Mary. Let not our hearts be troubled. Amen

Based on our vintage linen finds in recent years, tatting has gone by the wayside. However, when we find them, we relish in the discovery! They still command good prices (if we keep from hoarding them ourselves!). I love Queen Ann’s lace wildflower.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
A friend told me she knows someone here that is still tatting. I must check that out.

Thanks for this post Pam. Growing up we had a lot of Queen Ann’s Lace around our house and my mom would pick bouquets of it for our table. She would also give us a sprig or two and a glass of water with food coloring in it and it would tint the lacy flowers that color. Such fun, beautiful memories. I wish I had more of it growing around my house. Blessings!

Queen Anne’s Lace is so beautiful and intricately designed. Thank you for continuing to write, even when you think you can’t. God is using you in an incredible way. God used you to gently admonish me when you wrote, “God’s Holy Word always has the answers, but it seems that I often go everywhere else before I go to the One who knows and loves me best.” You have also encouraged my grieving heart very much today. God bless you, Pam.

You surely do encourage us, my friend, and you are such a blessing. I am also blessed by your transparency in sharing that your heart is heavy. It helps to know we are not alone. I have never seen such a troubled time in all my life, and nothing seems or feels right in our world. SO much hate and disdain and upheaval. I am glad we are not getting out much right now. It is such a gift to be able to stay inside our homes or working in our own yards and just using this time to be near the ones we love most. One thing all of this is doing – it is teaching us all what is really important and helping us to let go of what isn’t. God’s purpose will prevail, in spite of all, and may He just ever continue to pull each one of us closer to His side and help us to keep our eyes on eternity and not on the troubling things of this life.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Cheryl for your sweet words and sentiments. God’s purpose will always prevail.

Thank you Pam for the reminder to go to the One who loves us most. It’s so easy to try and figure it out on our own. I love the verse you chose. I did a sampler with that verse on it years ago.
Queen Anne’s lace is beautiful by the sides of our highways here in Dallas area. Blessings as we look to the Source of everything.

Thank you so much, Cherry! Your sweet words warm my heart. Amen and Amen!
