“I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.”
John 15:5
Hello sweet friends, I hope you all enjoyed a nice weekend! Summer is in full swing in our Appalachian Foothills with heat and humidity. It is the third Monday of the month which means a new edition of Monday Morning Blooms. Welcome to the garden where I am serving iced tea with a sprig of chocolate mint for your comfort!
“I’m glad it’s finally hot enough to complain about how hot it is.”
-Unknown
It appears that it was a nice pleasant early evening in the garden with a gentle breeze…
…not as it appears! I braved a heat index of 101 at 6:30 p.m. in order to set a garden table. Why, you might ask? It is limelight/vanilla strawberry hydrangea season and I wanted to show you their beauty. With three limelights, five vanilla strawberries, and two little lambs, they are putting on their best show now!
You will find the links for beautiful floral inspiration from Lidy, Mary, and Shirley at the bottom of this post.
Long-time readers know that I love color. Color has exploded on my garden table!
My plans to visit the nearby flower farm last week did not happen, but no worries with hydrangeas in bloom! As I was planning for this edition of Monday Morning Blooms, I pulled out the April Cornell tablecloth that I have had for several years. With the colorful floral pattern, everything came together quickly. I chose a blue and white vase to showcase the hydrangeas. My big beautiful sunflowers and zinnias are in bloom, but they did not pair well with the hydrangeas. I decided hydrangeas are a perfect stand-alone flower. After placing the hydrangeas in the vase, I thought they need might benefit by adding a little something. There it was…coleus!
I have had more questions about this particular stemware than any other. A friend gifted me these lovely glasses from Pier 1 many years ago. I am sad to see this business close their doors!
Vanilla strawberry hydrangeas are beginning to take on their pink color. They never turn red in our hot climate as they do in cooler zones!
Red placemats with cute beads, Spode Blue Italian dinner plates, Paula Deen salad plates, and hand-painted napkin rings highlight the colors of the tablecloth!
This should be the last time you see the cottage with its natural wood. Painting begins today! You might notice my mosquito lantern under the table. Mosquitoes, flies, and gnats have been the worst in my recent memory. I am highly prone to their bites! They fly all around the hubby and look for me.
“What dreadful hot weather we have! It keeps one in a continual state of inelegance.
-Jane Austen
Needless to say no one dined at this table. Our dinner was quite lovely indoors with the air-conditioning! Now it is time to visit my lovely friends.

Thank you for sweet visits and gracious comments. Wishing you a delightful day!

Pam, Your table and hydrangeas are just beautiful! I am a heat wimp and couldn’t even entertain the thought of setting a table outside with our July temps and pore-cleansing humidity. Mosquitoes prefer me over my hubby too, I tell him it’s because I’m so much sweeter. 😉 I love your colorful placesettings with your goblets and napkin rings, framed by your cheery red mats. I already miss Pier 1. As always it’s a treat to join you for some flower therapy. Happy Monday ♥
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Mary. The heat has been so oppressive and I am in a continual state of inelegance 🤣
Bonnie Morgan says
Your table is gorgeous. So beautiful with your hydrangea background. I relate to the heat and humidity. It was already 75 at 4:30 this morning. I have been trying to walk everyday so I have to hurry and get out there.
Love everything about your table. It is stunning!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Bonnie. Have a wonderful Wednesday and try and stay cool!
Kay Shumate says
I love all of your Beautiful table clothes you use. Do you have to iron them each time to start to use them? How do you store your cloths!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Kay, I store all of my tablecloths on hangers in a guest room closet. I have to iron some cloths, some I place in the dryer with a damp towel, and some I don’t have to iron. Happy Monday!
Joanie says
Pam, how do you keep the deer from eating your hydrangea plants?
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Joanie, the deer have eaten one of my hydrangeas in our front yard. I expect to get up one morning and see that all of the resident deer have feasted on our salad buffet!

Pam, you have an eye for putting color together like I have never seen. The AC cloth is beautiful and I think you have brought out every single color with exquisite taste. The Paula Dean salad plates are beautiful with your plates and centerpiece. This has to be one of my favorites. I can’t wait to see the color you have chosen for the GC. I have been anxiously waiting. You may have told us and I missed it. Your hydrangeas are outstanding. Have a wonderful week my friend.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you for your kind words Dianne. Happy Wednesday!
Liz says
Pam this is so pretty! The flowers are beautiful, love how you inserted the coleus into the hydrangeas! Love the tablecloth print and how you coordinated everything. Those hand painted napkin holders are a treasure! Can’t wait to see cottage painted and the interior! Take care in the heat! I’s no fun to be bombarded with bugs, ugh!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much Liz. The heat has been so oppressive.
Roxanne Bernard says
Pam, I love all your quotes today about the heat! Jane Austen surely was from AL or SC!! Gracious goodness, it is already hot here…even the pups want no part of it. I hated Pier 1 closed also, my local store was always quite busy. I chuckled at your response to a question above because I store my tablecloths in the exact same place. And I purchased a long, covered tub from Walmart to keep placemats which are stored under the guest room bed! I can’t wait to see the garden cottage after it is painted!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Roxanne. Yes, and I store covered tubs under the guest room bed 😂
Penny at Enjoying The Simple Things says
Your table setting is beautiful. I especially love the stemware!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much Penny!
Carole @ From My Carolina Home says
Those flowers are gorgeous, but you are sure tough to get out in that heat. I would have run out to cut the flowers, then set the table in the air conditioning. I cannot tolerate that kind of miserable heat. Really, if it is over 80, I’m too hot.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Carole. Yes, I should have set the table in the dining room!

Oh Pam, your table and hydrangeas are so delightful, how generous of you to brave the heat humidity and bugs to set and share this table with us! I love the color explosion you have created surrounding the beautiful hydrangea centerpiece! And soon you will be enjoying the AC in your garden cottage! The plate stack is fabulous and I especially love the handpainted napkin rings 😊 The quotes are hilarious, especially the one by Jane Austen, a continual state of inelegance 😂 the perfect description!

Thank you Jenna. The heat and humidity have been horrible and yes, I have definitely been in a state of inelegance 🤣 We did receive a big rain yesterday evening! Happy Wednesday!

Pam, your table and setting look absolutely gorgeous! Your flowers are beautiful and the backdrop of your cottage is perfect. I have not seen a mosquito lantern. I may have to check one out. Mosquitoes always find me. We have had an extra abundance of flying insects this year, too. We are also into the dog days of summer with high heat and humidity. I have so enjoyed my visit to your gorgeous garden, and I hope you have a wonderful day! Happy Monday, dear friend!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Shannon, you are a sweetheart! Stay inside and cool. Happy Tuesday!
Clara says
Pam, What a great job especially in this heat! The tablescape is just gorgeous! I love the wonderful cool colors. I will miss Pier 1 too. Your goblets are a favorite of mine. Love the colorful chevron napkins and napkin rings which pair so well with your AC tablecloth. The bouquet is absolutely beautiful! It looks so dainty and fresh in the blue and white vase. I must admit the mosquitoes dine on me regularly and bypass my husband! It’s because we’re tastier! I would prefer to be less tasty and share them! Lol Your garden cottage is a perfect backdrop for your alfresco table. We’ve been eating in AC too, especially after working outside. Have a great week! Clara♥️
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much Clara. Indoors is where I am today, it is just too hot. Take care of yourself my friend ♥️
Nancy says
And you survived! You did not melt and did not get eaten alive by the darn summer bugs.
Your hydrangeas are in full bloom. My Strawberry ones are just about ready to turn pink and my limelights are just thinking about it. I hope to make a lovely centerpiece soon. You are always my inspiration!
I enjoy your Tablescapes and April’s linens. I just purchased an Apron from her and a few tea towels for the LakeHouse Kitchen. I hope to share soon.
And look at your cottage coming along! Oooooooo…. How fun for you!
Thank you for your lovely verses. This is a time where we need God in our lives at every turn!
Happy Monday sweet friend.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Yes, I did survive! I will be anticipating a post with the AC linens, and I know it will be perfect.

Oh dear Pam. I swoon over your gorgeous hydrangeas and the garden cottage! I can see why you get many questions about those goblets. They are beautiful and yes it is a shame about Pier One’s closing. Your table is always happy in your garden. Thank you for braving the heat and insects ( they love me too 🙁) so we can enjoy your happy summer table and a peek of the garden cottage. As always, love joining MMB with you! Stay cool!!

Your table is so beautiful, Pam. Like you, every bug in California wants to bite me, so instead of joining you outdoors, I’d love to sit in your gorgeous home instead. 🙂 You have such a talent for creating beauty, your table is a treat and visual feast. I love that soon you will have your own outdoor building like my “little frenchgardenhouse” {you will have to name her!} It’s always a joy to join you on our special Monday Morning Blooms! xoxo

Thanks so much Jeanie. Hydrangeas are the most lovely of flowers!

All the bright colors seem to fit in perfectly with a hot summer day, it is a lovely table. We haven’t had many mosquitoes but no see ums come out in the evening if there isn’t an ocean breeze.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Karen, an ocean breeze would be fabulous!
Pattie says
What a BEAUTIFUL table and centerpiece! The coleus and hydrangea combination is lovely, and one I had not thought of before, despite growing both. Truth be told, nearly everything I’m growing looks a bit puny this year, alas.

Thank you so much for your visit Pattie. Have a wonderful Wednesday!

I’ve noticed I’ve gotten bit a lot more this year, too. As soon as I step out the door something is gnawing at me. I wonder if it has something to do with this miserable heat?

Jane would insist upon wearing linen in the heat of a Summer’s day…one must live with inelegance to appear elegant.
Your table setting (thank you for the effort) is captivating…and oh the flowers ! Coleus nestled in the beautiful hydrangea.
Those goblets are a tabletop treasure in any season and you always know “when” the moment is right. I am stretching toward the day your lovely cottage is christened and open to rave revues. Alas, Pier One…it was my go to place especially
for the red tartan last Christmas… now what? Now where? Keep cool, dear one.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Mary, thank you. I am in a constant state of inelegance these hot and humid days. Have a lovely weekend my friend!
