“Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’”
John 7:38
Happy Tuesday dear friends. I sure hope everyone is well and staying cool. So many of you are asking about the cottage. It was completed last Friday and now it’s time to furnish and decorate. Yesterday, I tried to do a little local shopping for the first time since the beginning of the virus. So many of the shops and national retailers had extremely low stock, in other words, not much to choose from. The process of buying online will take longer, but it is ok. I will keep you posted.
In my opinion, sunflowers are one of the happiest flowers. We plant seeds every year and are always excited to see their big yellow faces!
Mammoth sunflowers live up to their name…
…this giant among sunflowers can grow up to twelve feet with large dinner plate size bloom
A giant bloom has formed and you can see a tinge of yellow inside!
Note the following stages of the bloom fully opening…
“Like a single sunbeam on a warm summer day, there is an exuberance and brilliance in a sunflower.”
-Unknown
Busy Bee sunflowers were planted for their smaller blooms and shorter stalks.
Bees do love them!
Sunflowers are the perfect stand alone flower or mix beautifully with other flowers! Do you see the happy sunflowers in the background?
Procut red sunflowers bloom early…
…with deep rich rusty-red flowers…
…that reach four to six feet tall!
I ordered these seeds from Floret Farm.
One of my favorite floral arrangements using sunflowers!
Have you ever planted sunflowers?
Thank you for your visit and for braving the heat in our Appalachian Foothills. I appreciate all of your gracious comments. Wishing you a joy-filled day!

Swoon Pam! Such a cheery post today, I love all your sunflowers! I’m especially taken with your Procut red…what beauties! I’ll have to find a spot where seedlings won’t be eaten by bunnies next year. I hope you’re staying cool in this heat and looking forward to seeing your finished cottage. ♥
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Good morning Mary. Our rabbit population has disappeared drastically. Butch has fox sightings for several nights on his trail cams. Even though the bunnies can be pests, I sure am sad that the they were discovered by their number one predator.
Bonnie Morgan says
Your sunflowers are so pretty and fun to watch them perform. Your arrangement is beautiful and I can understand how special it is to enjoy the fruit of your labors.
Mike has been seeing foxes on his morning walks. He whistles and one of the juveniles walks toward him. The other one is timid. He has made pictures for our grandchildren and they have named him Rufus.
I’ve never planted sunflowers because I do not have a place. We are surrounded by trees. So it is shade plants for me.
Looking forward to seeing your cottage. Very exciting.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Good morning Bonnie. Wow, foxes are usually shy and nocturnal. I am surprised Mike is seeing them. It is so hot that I have to be outside early for whatever needs doing. Stay cool and have a wonderful Tuesday!
Nancy says
Oh, Pam and Butch your Sunflowers have brought a great big smile to my face! They are a glorious sight on this rainy day here in Pennsylvania.
And take your time decorating your cottage. It will truly be fun shopping for your lovely dream come true!
And It’s true… lots of our shops and big box stores have slim pickin’s.
Stay cool my friend!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Nancy, we are in need of rain and hopefully will get some this afternoon. I have plenty of “stuff” for the cottage, but I need a couple of comfy chairs and some odds and ends! Happy Tuesday!

Good morning, Pam! I’ve got an old crock sitting by the kitchen door with a sunflower plant smiling brightly for all the world to see. I smile back every time I walk by. She’s a warm and welcoming presence as people come and go.
Love it.

Pam, nothing in the world is more cheerful than a sunflower! Yours are magnificent!! I haven’t done any shopping either but keep hearing stock is low. This may be a great time to browse your favorite thrift and juntique stores…that really is one of my favorite past times with one of my dear friends, and I miss doing it.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Roxanne, sunflowers do add cheer to a room or to my garden! My favorite antiques and vintage shop closed.
Sandra at Maison De Jardin says
Pam, your sunflowers are glorious. I do love them. We grew them in Va. and it was a treat to watch the birds after their seeds when they dried. They are such happy blooms.
Have a lovely week, dear friend.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Sandra, thanks so much. Yes, the birds do love the seeds!
Clara says
Pam, Your sunflowers are beautiful and I love them. Our agricenter plants acres of them and they are a favorite photo setting. Since we haven’t been out much due to Covid, we need to see if they did so this year. I’ve never had any luck with them due to shade and animals, but we’re going to keep trying! We’re developing new beds for next year since neither the zinnias or sunflowers came up this year. Your red sunflowers are a favorite and the bouquet is gorgeous. It’s so happy and I love the container. You’re right! The stores are low in inventory everywhere it seems. Thank you for such a cheerful post! Enjoy your week. I hope your sweet Daddy is doing well! Clara♥️
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much Clara. You are so sweet to ask about my Daddy. He is doing very well, I am preparing his dinner and will take it to him shortly.
Some of my more expensive zinnia seeds never came up. I think I will stick with the tried and true next year.
marmeladegypsy says
I think sunflowers are one of the most interesting flowers in the world, partly because in every stage, even decay, they have a unique and interesting beauty. You certainly have some spectacular ones. So many varieties. I have some strain at home but not the big seed-pod version, which I love the most.
I’ve hardly been out of my zone. There was the one shopping visit to that funky epicurean bait and tackle shop — the first shop I’d been in in four months — a trip to the pharmacy and one to the hardware store (accompanying Rick, who was doing the buying.) I confess I miss a good shop but also have no desire to dig in and do it. I can work with this for as long as it takes.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Jeanie, you nailed it. They are unique in every stage, even decay! Wishing you a lovely afternoon and evening!
Elizabeth Phillips says
Good morning Pam! What a lovely post! Such beautiful sunflowers and love the red rusty sunflowers too! I always enjoy looking at your pictures, I’m thinking about next year’s flower garden and would like to include different variety of sunflowers! 😉 Thanks for sharing! Have a blessed week!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much Elizabeth. I encourage to venture out and try a couple of varieties!
Heritage Hall says
Oh if only we humans had the natural gift of imparting the sunshine and happiness that sunflowers have…who could resist the
giving and receiving? Rusty sunflower is new to me and it certainly makes a lovely bouquet addition. Alas, so many shops are
low on items once so readily available. I am still trying to gather needlework linen/floss to get a project going….simply out of
stock. Your ingenuity will prevail and you will have the cottage whipped into beauty in no time. Cannot wait for the great reveal….
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Happy Wednesday Mary! I am working on the cottage a little bit every day. Have a lovely afternoon and evening.
Rita C. says

Pam, your sunflowers are beautiful! We were in Tennessee this past weekend and passed a lovely field of sunflowers. They are the happiest of flowers! I planted sunflowers years ago and only a few sprouted and grew tall. Just as one flower opened, an insect of some sort came in the middle of the night and chewed it in half. I was so sad! Love looking at your lovely flowers and look forward to the garden shed reveal!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Insects really like sunflowers and so do deer! Thank you Stacy!
Linda Primmer says
Wow, these gorgeous sunflowers do make me smile. They brighten any day. I need to pant some next year. Your bouquet is lovely. I especially love the red ones.

Your sunflowers are so pretty and I agree with you about them being a happy flower. What I love about them is that they last from summer and into fall. I can’t wait to see the cottage when you have it just the way you want it…I know it will be absolutely perfect.

Karen, thanks so much! Sunflowers just make me smile 🌻

I am seriously in love with your sunflowers Pam! I planted 30 seeds this year, some of them were pink! I was so excited! Only one popped up out of the ground. So for now, I will live through you! Thank you for sharing with Charming Homes and Gardens!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Those things just seem to happen. I planted zinnias three times before they came up, that was a first!
lulu says
I agree with you that sunflowers are happy flowers. A neighbor plants seeds every summer and I watch them every step of the way. They are about ready to bloom so for several weeks they will make me smile. Can’t wait to see what you do with your shed.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much Linda. They are happy flowers!
MilkGlassHome says
These are so lovely! I’m growing a mix of red sunflower varieties this year. We actually gave them out in handmade seed packets at wedding favors last year. They’re beautiful, but I’m loving the Skyscraper variety I planted even more! I’ve had nearly 20 blooms with long stalks for cutting. I also LOVE Floret seeds and would love to try some of their sunflowers! Thanks for the walk through your garden. 🙂

Patti Fralix says
Pam, your sunflowers are stunning! You have really turned into quite the gardener! I am most impressed. I have basically given up even having plants in pots this summer due to not being home enough to keep them watered. I miss the foliage, but I have had to accept the reality of the care that plants take. I can’t even imagine a garden!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Patti. Gardening is time consuming, but rewarding. Wishing you a delightful weekend!
Cheryl says
