“Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.”
Romans 12:10
Hello sweet friends and Happy Thursday! Welcome to the garden as we celebrate one of summer’s most perfect flowers!
I have been a fan of zinnias forever…
…their colors are amazing. This one looks like the petals have been waxed!
For several years I have said, buy zinnia seeds, anyone can grow them.
This year was not that easy. I ordered lots and lots of seed packets. I could not wait to plant several varieties that I had never grown. We waited and waited and not a single sprout appeared. Not to be defeated, we arrived early at Lowe’s, wearing our masks and gloves, to purchase more zinnia seeds. We came home and planted. Guess what… they never came up. This was so puzzling! We did everything the same as we always had. My Renaissance Man said we would try once more, and thankfully the third time was the charm. We still don’t know what happened. Did birds eat the seeds? Did rain wash them? It remains a mystery!
First time for a white zinnia!
I just love this color! What is really strange, this is one of the original seeds that we planted.
The Creator’s world is so amazingly detailed! With thoughts of such intricate design in everything He made, it is mind boggling to consider how much more attention He pays to all of us who have a soul and who are made in His image!
For an easy centerpiece, place zinnias in bottles. You can see this tablescape here.
Zinnias mix so well with sunflowers. This was my Monday Morning Blooms arrangement this week!
A sentimental stoneware pitcher holds a bouquet of zinnias!
A pale shade of lavender…
…and bright lipstick red!
Butterflies love zinnias. Last October I enjoyed chasing Monarchs to snap a few photos!
Thank you for you sweet visits and taking precious time to comment. Wishing you a lovely day!

Just beautiful Pam! So glad you prevailed and third time was the charm! My seeds sprouted but the bunnies were ravenous and ate all the tender seedlings despite the Liquid Fence I applied to keep them away. I’ll have put my thinking cap on for next year to see I can outwit them! 🌸🦋
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Mary. Gardening is not for the faint of heart. Happy Saturday!
Sandra at Maison De Jardin says
Pam, your zinnias are gorgeous. Like you, this was my first time ever having trouble with them coming up. I also planted three times before success and they just don’t seem to be the same as in past years. I couldn’t begin to say what happened. We had snow the first weekend of May (yes, that is correct) and my only thought was perhaps the ground was not warm enough.
Enjoy your beauties and your garden, summer is going by fast. Blessings, sweet friend❤
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Sandra. Zinnia issues may be that it is 2020?? Wishing you a lovely weekend!
Roxanne Bernard says
Pam, I planted mine in a raised container and have lots of healthy stems but sparse blooms. Go figure. But my black eyed Susan’s that I actually did not plant have taken over a flower bed and have been blooming prolifically since May. Maybe we should just chalk it up to this incredibly strange year! I saw James Farmer posted on Instagram where he gets his seeds and just replanted for a Fall crop…I’m going to try them.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Roxanne, I say the zinnia issues can be chalked up to 2020. I saw the James Farmer discussion. He orders from Johnny Seeds.
the Painted Apron says
Oh Pam, I have been waiting for a zinnia post! I adore your zinnias and I too was puzzled when you recently mentioned that they weren’t blooming…as you are both avid gardeners I hope you can solve this mystery! I am so glad the third time was the charm and now you have blooms!

Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Jenna…Happy Saturday!
Penny at Enjoying The Simple Things says
I love zinnias. So glad your third time worked! I planted 350 seeds along my split rail fence and they are just starting to flower. But I only see about 20 plants! I think mine got washed away.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
So many have had zinnia problems this year. Maybe you can enjoy a few bouquets!
Nancy says
Praise the Lord they all came up …finally!
Good Morning dear Pam… how I love your Zinnias!
I did not plant any this year as we got here to late.
So I will sit here and gaze at your beauties. And the never ending bouquets that they will provide.
Thank you for big smiles today. Happy Thursday!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks Nancy. Zinnias do provide lots of fresh flowers for the kitchen!
Della says
Glad the seeds came up the third time. They are lovely. Such pretty colors.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Della, I am enjoying them!
Nancy Sharp says
Your garden is always so beautiful. It is always a mystery why sometimes things grow and sometimes they don’t. We have one place in our yard that refuses to grow. We’ve been here eighteen years! Usually Florida St. Augustine grass will grow anywhere. Not there. We have seeded, sodded at least 5 times, plugged, fertilize etc. I keep saying pour concrete!😂I think it’s an Indian Burial Ground.😀
God’s creations are so fascinating if you take the time to really look at them closely. I love doing that in pictures as well as in real life.
Thank you for letting us enjoy your garden.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much Nancy. God creations are truly fascinating!
Clara says
I am so thankful you had zinnia success! Ours never came up and we weren’t as persistent due to other projects demanding attention. Your stoneware pitcher is so pretty. I love it when it makes the scene. Pam, your garden is just beautiful. Lots of work, we know, but wow does it show in your pictures! Thanks for sharing with us! Enjoy this beautiful weather. We’re below our norms and it’s wonderful. We actually ate outside yesterday evening! Very unusual for this time of year. Enjoy your day! Clara♥️
Pam @ Everyday Living says
I am so sorry yours didn’t come up. I hearing that a lot of people have had a hard time with zinnias this year. Enjoy your weather and have a wonderful day❤️
barefootlilylady says
Your zinnias are beautiful. I’m so very glad I planted some this year too…in fact, I think one of your posts last year may have influenced that decision.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks Cindie. I love making arrangements with them!
Kay Shumate says
I as well love Zinnias. I have 2 neighbors that theirs return every year without them planting new seeds. Glad your man tried a 3rd. time. God is good.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Yes, He is! Thank you, Kay!
marmeladegypsy says
Zinnias, hydrangeas and sweet peas are my three favorite summer blooms. You ace the zinnia category for sure! I love your bright bouquets on your tables. I wish they were a perennial in our area. Next year I must do more!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Jeanie, I also love sweet peas, pretty in a cottage garden!
Karen says
Several years ago at our Walgreens they had flower seed 10 pkgs.for $1. I bought some zinnia seeds and planted them several years, saving the seeds each time. This spring I bought 3 pkgs. for a lot more money but wanted some zinnias again. I planted two of the three and not one came up! So I can relate to your story. ☺ Yours are bea pitiful so thankfully you persevered!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Karen, it seems that so many of us have zinnia problems this year. Have a lovely weekend!
Bonnie Morgan says
Pam and Butch,Your zinnias look great. I planted at least six or seven packets and they came up but bugs ate them. They I planted more in starter containers and transplanted them which was back breaking only for the bugs to eat again. So I started spraying them with Neem Oil and I sprinkled slug bait around the plants. Then, they got very tall and leggy with no bottom leaves. So then I figured they needed some fertilizer and that has helped. I staked them but they really are too leggy. Can you cut the top off and they bush out and bloom?
I’ve replanted more seeds and I will fertilize from the beginning next time. The garden soil I used in the bed had fertilizer in it so I didn’t think they needed fertilizer but they did.
It has been a very frustrating attempt.
I bought some zinnias at the Farmers Market but they only had them that one time. I think I could grow them if I had enough sun.
Thanks for your post.Your pictures are very pretty and show the intricate details of each blossom. My mother grew them all the time and they are nostalgic for me.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Bonnie. I have chalked up all of my gardening woes this year to 2020! Wishing you a lovely weekend my friend.
lulu says
I remember last year you mentioned how easy zinnias were to grow and how much they added to your garden. This year I decided to follow your lead to see what happened. Result is quite successful and next year I plan on having more as they have such lively colors and bloom and bloom and bloom!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Linda, I know your zinnias are just beautiful in their Maine climate.
Maristella says

Persistence Is the name of the game in all of life including planting seeds. Your zinnias Are beautiful especially the white and the one from last year’s seeds that didn’t come up.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Amen, Alice…wise words! Have a love weekend.
Cheryl says
Oh, my goodness! They are ALL so pretty! I love zinnias, too. I never knew there were so many color varieties! It would be hard to pick a favorite, but I think the lavendar would win out for me. I just love that color so much. Thank you for sharing such beauty with us, sweet friend. You are such a blessing!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you dearest Cheryl. Wishing you a delightful weekend!
Tea With Jennifer says
Delightful as always Pam. Maybe ants had a feast on your seeds, that happens here.
Bless you,
Jennifer

Thank you Jennifer. Have a lovely weekend!

Thank you, you too! 😀
Shannon@Belle Bleu Interiors says
Pam, as we have both said gardening is not for the faint at heart. I had a similar problem with my Zinnias. I planted lots of seeds but only got a few flowers. I have been able to get a bouquet each week, and I have found that the more I cut the flowers more grow back. I think next year I’m going to buy an oval stock tank and plant them in there. As always, your flower arrangements are stunning and belong in a beautiful flower book. I hope you enjoy your day, and have a most beautiful weekend, sweet friend!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Shannon. Wishing you a lovely weekend, my friend!
Sharon White says
Simply stunning. Thanks for brightening our days!

Thank you Sharon. Wishing you a lovely weekend!

Pam, all those flowers are just beautiful! I have tried zinnias before without much success, but you have convinced me to try them again next spring. I will put them on my list of plants to try and look forward to a nice surprise. Can you tell me where you order your seeds?
Thanks for always sharing such lovely posts and encouraging words. I know if we lived close, we’d be friends!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
This year for the first time I ordered seeds from Floret Farm in Washington. The farm is amazing. If you use Instagram, follow their page.
Thank you for your sweet comments. I am sure we would be friends.

What is it with the zinnias this year? Lulu must really have a green thumb. Your third try produced bountiful color and your
arrangements is lovely. My roses this year have been outstanding and I so enjoy your apricot drifters.. The crepe myrtle
this year have really filled the scene to overflowing with pinks and lavenders. Nothing like a garden to provide peace as
reward for the hard work. Have a blessed day all.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Happy Saturday Mary! I can’t figure out the zinnia issues this year. I guess it falls in the category of 2020, who can explain it all. Have a joy-filled weekend.
Karen (Back Road Journal) says
Zinnias just say summer to me as if to reiterate the summer heat with their bright bold colors in the garden.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Happy Saturday and thank you Karen!

Your zinnias are gorgeous. I too saw the James Farmer IG video and I think I’ll go ahead and plant some for Fall now too. Glad to know where he gets his seeds, I may order from there. What month do you plant your seeds for summer bloom?
On another note, did you see the notice about James Farmer’s launch in Perry of his new book? I was entertaining the idea of trying to go if I can talk DH into driving me there. I have a knee issue which is prohibiting me from driving.
Carolyn/A Southerner’s Notebook
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Carolyn, I would definitely go to Perry for the launch of James Farmer’s new book. I am definitely going to order from Johnny Seeds. I plant my seeds in May. Let me know if you go to Perry! Take care of your knee. Happy Sunday!
asouthernersnotebook says
Do you start your seeds in cell packs or do you just plant them right in the ground? I wouldn’t think I would have to plant them in cell packs this time of year but I’d have a better idea if they were going to come up. I’ve never planted zinnia’s from seed. Hope you are having a happy weekend.
The truth is I haven’t been able to do much gardening this year either (crying) because of my knee issues and I am also having a hip issue. (rolling eyes) Hopefully I am getting this resolved soon.
Carolyn/A Southerner’s Notebook
Pam @ Everyday Living says
I am so sorry about your knee and hip issues, that is no fun. I always plant my zinnia seeds in the ground. Have a blessed Sunday!
Elizabeth Phillips says
Oh Pam, So glad you didn’t give up planting the zinnias seeds. What a mystery! Your zinnias are absolutely beautiful! Such a beautiful post! Of course you know, I love zinnias! lol! Have a blessed week! 🙂
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much Elizabeth. Wishing you a blessed week!
Cheryl King says
My mother was always a fan of easy “zinnies” as she called them. She said the tiny yellow parts in the center looked like cross-stitching, so now I habitually look for the cross-stitches in mine! You have some great colors- I think I will look for some of these next year!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Cheryl, I have never thought of the centers looking like cross-stitch, but they do!
barefootlilylady says
I planted a cutting garden of zinnias in two raised beds this year. Each bed is a modest 4’x4′. I only wish I had planted them here and there in my flowerbeds too. I decided on zinnias because they’re just so very lovely in color, but also because they make such a superb cutting flower. Though my sweet momma is in heaven now, I still like to drop in on the folks at her former abode, BeeHive Assisted Living and Memory Care. Rather than my daily visits, I now drop in once or twice a week, always bearing flowers to use in little tabletop arrangements for the residents. Zinnias are perfectly content to sit in a vase of water looking picture-perfect until I arrive bearing fresh-cut flowers on my next visit.
I love all of your zinnias, but that waxy-looking red one of yours has a unique beauty to it.
Blessings,
Cindie
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Cindie, you are so thoughtful to take fresh flowers to Bee Hive. I love the ease of zinnias and they last forever in a vase! Happy Thursday!
Donna vaughn says
I love zinnias! Yours are beautiful! I have wanted to plant some since my retirement a few years ago. Didn’t get the seeds planted in time, so I planted several starter plants around the end of June. They only grew about two or three inches. 😞 Not sure what I did wrong.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Donna, I don’t know what zone you live in, but I plant directly into the ground. I hope you try again, they really give their beautiful blooms until autumn!
