“The flowers appear on the earth, the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land. The fig tree ripens its figs, and the vines are in blossom; they give forth fragrance.”
Song of Solomon 2:12-13a
Happy Labor Day! I hope you have been enjoying the long weekend and have taken some time to rest and relax. Labor Day seems to be the unofficial end of summer and the beginning of autumn. Blog land has been filled with fall for several weeks. However, it is rather difficult to pull out cozy throws when the temperatures are in the 90’s. The question remains…Is it summer or fall?
It is the first Monday of September and do you know what that means? Yes, it is Monday Morning Blooms with my talented blogging friends. I am so delighted that you are here.
A bowl of mostly dahlias are wearing pretty shades of autumn!
My table is a mix of summer and fall, since it is hard to decide which season it is. This could probably be classified as either.
You will find the links for Lidy, Mary, and Shirley at the end of this post.
Top Row: Bodacious Dahlia, Dahlia Avignon
Bottom Row: Lavender Perfection, Holland Dahlia
These four types of dahlias have been growing in my garden, but note that none of these blooms are in the arrangement. My dahlias are finicky! There were lots of buds, but no blooms when I made the arrangement. Thankfully I had Plan B!
The April Cornell tablecloth has been in my collection for years and is a wonderful complement to the bowl and flowers. The oval bowl with the peacock handles is “Artesian Road” by Tracy Porter, as are the four individual bud vases.
Dahlias, zinnias, hydrangeas, and coleus are the flower ingredients for this mounded arrangement. I am so thankful for my friend Leah at Deep Roots Flower Farm who had plenty of dahlias to choose from.
Early morning light streaming inside Sunshine Cottage for a warm autumn glow! You might notice through the window an object in the pasture that resembles a deer. It is an archery target and decoy for my Renaissance Man and our son. The old saying, “the difference between men and boys are the price of their toys”, is fitting. Deer (the real kind) are regular visitors to our pasture!
“Ah, September! You are the doorway to the season that awakens my soul…but I must confess that I love you only because you are a prelude to my beloved October.”
-Peggy Toney Horton
My favorite candle stands, with pumpkin-colored candles, and a vintage lamp complete the vignette.
I have a large collection of books on gardening, flowers, and interior design. I love displaying them and keeping them nearby for perusing and inspiration.
“There is a wealth to September with its bounty of saffron blooms and golden light and flaxen grasses. Its gifts are for the taking-for those who know true riches.”
-Greta Crank

Pam, Your arrangement and dahlia blooms are beautiful, set off with your stunning AC tablecloth! I always have tablecloth envy when I visit. 🙂 I love the light you have streaming in your cottage appropriately named cottage. How wonderful to have a flower farm to visit for blooms. I haven’t tried to grow dahlias, I fear they would be bunny food. I’m looking forward to a further peek at the interior of your cottage as I catch a glimpse at your bead board walls, blinds and animal print chair. ..we’re in for a treat! Wishing you a Happy Labor Day ♥
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Mary. The flower farm has been a life saver since our grocery stores have had nothing. I am enjoying my little cottage and making memories with my girls!

You know how much I love your beautiful flower arrangements and how beautifully you coordinate them with your magnificent tablecloths….you hit this “prelude to Fall” out of the park and I am so happy to see the first glimpse of the inside of the Sunshine Cottage. The flowers are truly gorgeous and how amazing that you have that flower farm to visit. I am spying lots of beautiful things in the cottage and cannot wait to see it on Thursday…I know it will be stunning! Happy MMB Pam…loving joining you and our wonderful friends today!!

Beautiful arrangement, and I can see your cottage has a glam appeal to it. The view from inside the cottage – I was initially trying to decide if that was the dining room, but knew the beadboard was a clue! Looking forward to the reveal!

Rita, I am trying to make do with what I have. It is impossible to buy anything locally and everything is back ordered that I try to find on line!

It is a delight to start my day with such beauty in flowers and beautiful quotes.Your vignette with the gorgeous dahlias is stunning. What a gorgeous spot to photograph. Your styling is so elegant and so YOU!
I can’t wait to see Sunshine Cottage on Thursday! I don’t know how you have done all this so quickly and during a hard time!

Thanks so much Bonnie. I am constantly behind, I feel like I am always forgetting something!

Good morning Pam! What an exquisite arrangement and a perfect accompaniment to the AC tablecloth. I am in love with the peacock bowl! We have peacocks out here at my neighbors…they are beautiful until they fly onto my deck and destroy my container flowers (then I call them buzzards with pretty feathers!!). The peek inside Sunshine Cottage is so enticing, can’t wait for the tour. 🌞 And you are so right about men and their toys!!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Buzzards with pretty feathers 😂😂😂 The sound that peacocks make is eerie, sounds like a baby crying. We had one show up a couple of months ago in the pasture, but he kept moving. We can’t imagine where he came from. Thank you Roxanne!

What a wonderful “peek!” I love dahlias. My mom and grandma both grew beautiful ones. Not my talent but definitely a bloom I love and appreciate!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Jeanie, I haven’t done very well growing dahlias, so thankful for the flower farm close enough that I can go often!
Sandra at Maison De Jardin says
Such a lovely arrangement. I love hydrangeas when they take on the blush color and mixed with dahlias. A lovely combination. Looking forward to seeing the cottage, I know it will be a delightful treat.

Your arrangement is perfect with your AC cloth. Definitely a treat to get a glimpse of the interior. I had guessed the walls would be bead board. Beautiful! I can only imagine how stylish it will be…your style…simple elegance and lots of flowers. A beautiful start to this Monday.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Dianne, you made a good guess about the walls. Thank you dear!

Finally a peek into the cottage and what a peak. I’m going crazy to see the rest but first the flowers. Beautiful Pam. You have such a talent to take what you have and mix it together to get a picture for us worth painting. Your Tracey Porter bowl is so pretty. I’d like to see it without the arrangement too. I’m thinking your coffee table books are going to be a star in the cottage. I’m in love with all I see. Thank you Butch for the cottage that will be a blessing to all who visit either in person or by this blog.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Alice, your comments are so encouraging. Yes, some of my coffee table books will be out because I love to be surrounded by books!

Thank you Clara. We had a peacock show up a couple of months ago for a day or two and then disappeared. Their sound is eerie, like a crying baby!

Good Morning dear Pam… your arrangement is a delight to the eyes! I enjoy dahlias but sadly do not have them here at the LakeHouse. So I am thrilled to see yours! They bring a smile to my face.
