Happy First Sunday Of Autumn!
βMay the Lord give strength to his people! May the Lord bless his people with peace!β
ββPsalmβ¬ β29:11
Days and nights are equal now as the sun makes it’s way a little further south each day! There is something about the angle of light this time of the year that adds a special beauty to early mornings and late evenings.
Turkeytown Creek (yes that is the real name) was peaceful enough last week to allow wading out into the middle. Flowing out of the Appalachian foothills, the water is always cool.
Autumn Fire Sedum is a perennial now growing in an area where we normally have potted annuals. The future will tell if it is a good choice but for now it is providing very nice fall color!
It is intriguing to observe the various stages of growth and maturity as the seasons come and go, even the wide variations on the same plant or tree…
…as can be seen on these Magnolia seed pods which are only a few inches apart!
Emma K loves to be outside and she appears hopeful that someone will open this door! Maybe peering out is the next best thing.
EM was given the responsibility of entertaining and caring for Rufus for the weekend. An interesting school project that she took very serious!
With the arrival of autumn, harvest cannot be far away. Like the Magnolia earlier, the progression of cotton is fun to witness. It is interesting to find all stages represented in the same field, even on the same plant sometimes. First there are blooms…
…and then beginnings of the boll…
…then the opening…
…with some fully open but almost hidden by the foliage…
…and finally a field white unto harvest. This field is very near the one that still has plants in bloom! I guess “cotton picking” will go on for quite some time!
Some of our summer bloomers haven’t received the word about fall or they are choosing to ignore it!
Sunshine ligustrum provides a touch of gold and flows into the change of seasons quite well
We thought we would present you with an autumn bouquet to wish you a pleasant and colorful week!
Looking back this week we chose to recall 2013 and one of the most photographed and picturesque places in the world, Santorini, Greece!

I do love fall and the angles of light right now. The progression of plants is so intriguing too. Cotton is not native to our state, so I loved seeing its cycle in your photos. Have a great week.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
I think the autumn light is the prettiest of all. I so enjoy watching the cotton mature with white fields all around us!
Bonnie Morgan says
Apparently army worms are very active this year in our area for the cotton crop. I’ve seen the crop duster planes and heard they are bad this year. I love seeing a field of cotton. It is usually the middle of November when our cotton crop is at its best.
I’m glad EM has enjoyed her school project. I will never forget a young man in his late 20’s speaking about receiving a soft Teddy Bear in a Samaritans Purse shoebox. He said it meant the world to him as a young little boy to have a soft bear to cuddle. That was a lesson to me and I try to find one for my boxes each year.
I think you will like the Autumn Joy Sedum. It is very hardy and multiplies and is easily rooted.
I always enjoy your travel pics. Santorini has always been on my bucket list.
Have a blessed week.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Farmers have such a tough time, there is always something eating crops, droughts, too much rain. They persevere through it all. Sweet story about the young manβs testimony. I love doing the Samaritanβs Purse shoeboxes. Wishing you a lovely week.
Carole @ From My Carolina Home says
Lovely flowers! My geranium is blooming its head off now, when it should be done by now. It has five huge flower heads on one plant, crazy thing. But the leaves are showing signs of turning in the trees, and it was wonderfully cool as I sipped a hot coffee on the veranda at dawn this morning.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Sipping coffee at dawn on the veranda sounds lovely!
Alice Genzlinger says
Butch, wow, the amazing pictures, the words spoken. My memories are flooding back. Working in the cotton field chopping weeds then late in the afternoon after school picking cotton with a sack on my back. Who said only the poor had to pick cotton. Only Those that had never picked. The South lives on in my soul and is revived on occasion when you bring it forth in picture and song.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Alice, I remember when I was a child that my Mother would go and pick cotton. That is back breaking work that is all done by machine now. Wishing you a lovely week.
the Painted Apron says
The plant progression photos are beautiful and fascinating, you both are so knowledgeable when it comes to all things growing! The photo of Greece is stunning, it’s so nice that you are revisiting the places you’ve traveled during this time of limited traveling. Enjoy this glorious fall Sunday Pam & Butch!

Sandra at Maison De Jardin says
Such a beautiful post, Pam. Oh, how I love the photos of the cotton fields. Mississippi memories for me. And, the photos of the magnolia are wonderful. I have always enjoyed their pods. Emma is growing into a lovely girl, it seems like yesterday you were showing photos of her just toddling around.
Wishing you and your family a beautiful day and week ahead. May all of you stay well.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Sandra, I love to watch the cotton mature. It is an amazing plant and the white fields are just beautiful! Wishing you a lovely week!

Thank you Maristella!
Maria says
Itβs been so nice to travel down βsouthβ with you! The weather is beautiful here though, also, in the 70βs, prolonging summer a bit. The sedum and hydrangeas are all a lovely color. The mums of past years have all survived and are bursting open! What looks like white daisies are opening up too. The plant gets bigger every year.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you for traveling down South with us Maria. We are expecting highs only in the 60βs tomorrow. Your flowers sound lovely!
Clara says
Pam, Wonderful transitional photos of the cotton. The fields around us are all white. They’re so pretty. That creek looks so peaceful and inviting. Your sedum should do well; it’s a lovely color. We have the purple variety in large urns my Mom had started. They bloom year after year thankfully. Your sweet girls are precious. I love your fall bouquet in the copper pitcher. Fall is a favorite. The sunsets are breathtaking and is always a reminder that God is watching over us all. Our summer flowers are leggy but still blooming. Santorini is a wonderful vacation stop; it’s just beautiful. I found it amazing that you could walk, take a mule or the ventricular to the top. We chose the ventricular! There was an older lab sleeping on the wall. It always concerned us that if he moved the wrong way in his sleep he would end up at the bottom of those steps! Enjoy your week! Clara β₯οΈπ
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Clara, the purple sedum sounds beautiful, especially since your Mom had started them. Santorini is magical and I would love to return. I hope we can once again travel. It sounds like you have done a lot of travel. What is your most favorite place that you have been?
Clara says
We loved Europe for the history and architecture, especially the Italian cities. They are magical. For Biblical reference, Ephesus since we’ve never been to Israel or Egypt. It gave me such a special feeling being there and walking the same pathways that are referenced in the scripture. Enjoy your day sweet friend, the temps are dropping and we’re enjoying it so much! Claraβ₯οΈ
Pam @ Everyday Living says
We loved Ephesus and Philippi both. Israel is one of our favorite trips, havenβt been to Egypt. Thanks for replying, I love to talk travel.
Karen (Back Road Journal) says
Happy Sunday to the two of you. I enjoyed seeing how plantings have evolved as the season has changed. I had Autumn Fire Sedum in my first New Hampshire garden. It bordered the sidewalk leading to our front door and not only survived the snow and ice but actually thrived. I loved how the color changed as the months passed by as I think you will.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Karen. I hope my Autumn Fire Sedum will thrive.
nonie says
Being I am in the North! I have never seen a cotton plant and am amazed at how they grow. Thank you for showing how the cotton plant grows. May you have a wonderful, blessed week.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Nonie. Wishing you a wonderful blessed week!
Shannon@Belle Bleu Interiors says
The autumn sedum is gorgeous! I planted a few different varieties to see what it does. I agree the way the light dances around this time of year is so pretty. I hope you all have a blessed Sunday!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you and wishing you a lovely week, Shannon!
Heritage Hall says
Dear Pam and Butch – I cherish this Sunday time with you and your message. The transitioning of the various plantings is fascinating and was captured beautifully in your photos. The Princesses are growing in favor so quickly and EM is showing her care-giving spirit once again, while EmK continues to demonstrate her inclination for adventure. They are such a joy. The
prayer walk in Washington quelled misgivings and confirmed that His Spirit lives on in those who acknowledge Him, as I always sense in you and those here in your Sabbath gatherings. A blessed day to all.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Hello Mary. The girls are a joy, they not only look different, but have very different personalities. I have friends that were able to go to the prayer walk. Have a lovely week!
Richard A Schweck says
Thank you again for the Peace that you give me by sharing God’s word and his lovely blessings in the beauty of our world Have a great day
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you so much Richard!
Roxanne Bernard says
Hard to believe this Southern girl has never seen the blooms on cotton! It is beautiful!! The girls are getting so big…EKβs red hair is glorious! And EM is such a good caregiver…to her sister and her bear. We are not seeing much Fall color yet, but the days are so much shorter. It was quite dark and foggy as I drove to outdoor church. A small plane suffered engine failure just up the road from us and made an emergency landing in a pasture. It was quite eerie seeing it through the fog. Thankfully, nobody was injured. Wishing you a most joyous and peaceful week.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Roxanne, our highs tomorrow will only be in the 60βs. Fall has definitely arrived. How scary about the small plane, that could have been tragic. Happy week!

Autumn is advancing … And you leave us a great report of the plants that fall looks like. All interesting and some magical, that’s how I see them … Some plants are unknown to me.
Emma is also almost unknown to me because she has grown a lot, I am not a girl, now she is an old woman. As for Ella Mae, she’s older. It reminds me that my grandchildren (and they are boys) also had the task of looking after a stuffed pet at school for a weekend.
What a luxury !!!
A hug

Enjoyed seeing the stages as cotton bolls evolve. We have a two year old Magnolia tree and Iβm wondering if it will have the pretty seed pods. I think Iβm a southerner living in the Midwest!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you JoAnn. Your magnolia is probably too young.
marmeladegypsy says
I love the sedum and I wish I had bought another plant in the spring. Well, next year I’ll be on the lookout. (Last year I bought nothing!) And oh, what a wonderful Sunday face with your sweet girl!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Jeanie. I do love sedum, I hope these do well!
Mildred Hoppe says

I noticed the shadows today… looooonnnngggg. Fall is here when the shadows are loooonnnnggg!
I love how you showed the plant progression. And am so impressed how you know the names of so many of them.
We have cotton fields here in AZ as well. They are always fun to see.
Em is quite adorable taking care of the stuffed animal.
Thanks so much for the beautiful post!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you for joining me, Nancy!
Cheryl says
Seeing that cotton field made me think of where we lived in SC for so many years. When we first moved there, we had a 130 acre cotton field across the road from us. It was quite a sight to see. This post brought back some very precious memories of a special time in our lives. God bless you, sweet friend.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Cheryl, I know that was a beautiful scene, 130 acres of white. I am pleased it brought back precious memories!
