It’s beginning to look a lot like Chr…, no not yet…Autumn!
βThe grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.β

It’s beginning to happen…leaves are finding a new home. And Ella Mae would love these because many are pink! Fitting since we see a lot of pink displayed in October. These are down a few weeks earlier than most around our neck of the woods!
Yellow seas are showing up everywhere. It seems to be the dominant color in the countryside right now.
Sorry…I know goldenrod is everywhere, but it is still my favorite wildflower. It was once our State Flower until 1959 when it was replaced with the Camellia. I almost never see a camellia in bloom. We do have one in our garden so we do observe a few beautiful blooms, usually in late fall and early winter around Christmas.
This coleus has been around all summer and we started to replace it with a different plant for autumn, but decided it was offering a lot of fall-like colors under the arbor!
The little “pumpkin princess”!
The bigger “pumpkin princess”!
Another favorite is the aster. We had asters in our garden a number of years ago and we need to restore them to an area near the house. This is a wild one growing near the edge of the pasture!
I mentioned last week that I had indulged in one of the best hamburgers I had ever encountered in a neat place in Montana. Here it is before…sorry I can’t show you an after!
When wildlife decides to come to town things can get interesting!
October is berry time as many plants now have their fruit maturing before winter. It is not only leaves that offer color!
This is dogwood.
I always admire this beautyberry growing near my office.
The invasive privet has an ample supply of seeds that will soon turn a deep purple.
Although not a berry, the local persimmon trees are loaded with fruit that should make a few wildlife species happy. The fruit is edible but we choose to leave it for the opossums and other creatures. Don’t bite into one that is not fully ripe! A lot of folklore surrounds the persimmon seed as being able to forecast the extent of the upcoming winter.
John Lennon would’ve turned 80 last Friday. This weeks throwback takes us to Liverpool, England, and the gate at Strawberry Field. This replica of the original gate stands in front of a brushy area where a Salvation Army orphanage named Strawberry Field once stood. John Lennon grew up just around the corner and used to hang out here, playing behind the orphanage and attending garden parties.
When John wrote the song “Strawberry Fields Forever” and the Beatles released it in 1967, the home instantly took on world fame! Pam and I did not add our names. Seems there were enough without including ours.
We understand that since our visit, restoration has occurred, and in 2019 the gate was opened to the public. Preserving the memory, the area is now a tourist attraction. This was not the case in 2015.
Often clouds contribute to awesome sunsets but this one wasn’t bad even with fairly clear skies and taken with a cell phone!
Wishing you a pleasant and peaceful week!

Good morning. So enjoyed this colorful post while having my coffee. It has been so long since I have seen an aster. Mother always grew them. The colorful berries and goldenrod sure speak of this season. I could hear John Lennon singing Strawberry Fields forever. The two pumpkins are always the stars of your show. Have a blessed Sabbath and new week.

Happy Sunday and thank you Dianne!

Good morning! It is beginning to look like Fall here a bit, but it feels hot and muggy with rains from Delta. I love goldenrod, it is everywhere here too. The Pumpkin Princesses are as adorable as ever. Funny story…years ago we use to have a Dairy Princess when my department was Dairy Science. In cleaning out a closet one day, I found the tiara. For years I kept it on my desk, and when the students acted up I would say βdonβt make me put on my crown!β. Worked like a charm!!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Roxanne, I always love for you to share your memories with me. That tiara worked! We have had a lot of rain with Delta and still raining this morning.

Thank you Rita. Enjoy your week!

I am always amazed by how color changes with the season. Here in Maine, much of the color is disappearing fast as temperatures drop and the wind blows leaves to the ground. Oh, I share your like of goldenrod and was happy to learn that it doesnβt cause allergies as some think.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Everyone seems to think goldenrod is the culprit. Around here it is ragweed during this season.

Good morning, dear Pam. Just when I think those girls can’t be more adorable along come a photo and proves me wrong. They are so precious. We had a persimmon tree in VA. and I have a recipe that a neighbor there gave me for a persimmon cake – it is delicious. Love the goldenrod and all the leaves. Things are really turning lovely autumn colors here. We plan a drive in the country today.
Have a beautiful day and week ahead, dear friend.β€
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you dear Sandra. Enjoy your drive…it sounds lovely!

Good Morning to the beautiful Everyday Living Couple! It sure is wonderful to see signs of Autumn in your neck of the woods! The goldenrod is quite beautiful and to think I thought I was always allergic to it! But itβs actually ragweed that causes my allergies. I can now make goldenrod bouquets! Although I canβt find any heard in the desert. Lol!
The Pumpkin Princesses are getting bigger! They are just so precious!
We drove by Strawberry Field when we were in England. Thank you for the fond memories!
Happy Sunday to you both!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you dear Nancy. Yes, it is the dreadful ragweed. I would love to go back to Strawberry Field, now that is open to the public! Wishing you a lovely Sunday!

Pam, Your sweet girls are growing up. We know they are enjoying the Sunshine Cottage. Wow, that burger looks delicious! When we were out west many years ago it was amazing the amount of wildlife that roamed the national park hotel grounds at Zion. That’s where I saw my first and only porcupine along with many mule deer feasting on the tender grasses. Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to preserve the beautiful maple leaves, they’re so colorful. The sunset is gorgeous. It rained here all day yesterday from the hurricane but thankfully no bad weather. Hope you are feeling better! Take care of yourself sweet friend β£οΈ Clara β₯οΈ
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Clara. I havenβt ever seen a porcupine, but Butch has. It rained all day yesterday and is still raining this morning. I do fell better, had to get an antibiotic. Happy Sunday, my friend β₯οΈ

You cannot show too much goldenrod for me, Butch. It is one of my very favorites, too. Yes, your leaves, like ours, are finding a new home on the ground. But all so very beautiful!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Jeanie. I know you are enjoying vibrant fall colors!

Finally made it to your post today and what a rewarding read. The Pumpkin elder (now that is what
dressing for a Fall frolic is all about) and Pumpkin younger (her hair is in keeping with the color of autumn flame) are a joy to behold.. Love that pebbled path leading to the cottage. John 80? say it isn’t so…time flies, but fortunately we have Strawberry Fields to remind us. So glad to hear our Pam is feeling improved…this rainy weather is a blessing when one considers the storm that might have been.
Prayers for all those in its path.

Mary, your comments are always a joy to read. I am feeling better my friend. Were you a Beatles fan? I wasnβt, hard to believe I know. Enjoy this autumn week!
Karen (Back Road Journal) says
I do love your Pumpkin Princesses, they always bring a smile. I was surprised seeing so many leaves on the ground, it seems soon, but this has certainly been a strange one as far as weather and nature.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Karen. That was unusual for the tree to shed so many leaves this early.
Alice Genzlinger says
Persimmon pudding is a favorite. Your post reminds me to shop for persimmons. The Elk are bugling in Colorado and they are dangerous during the mating season as well as when with their young, in fact donβt go near them at all. My goodness how Queen Ella Mae has grown!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Alice, we went out for dinner this afternoon for the first time since the pandemic began. We dined outdoors at Bottega in Birmingham. Reading that you like persimmon pudding, I tried a persimmon dessert and it was outstanding, Persimmon Semifreddo! Yes, my guys know how dangerous elk are during mating season.

Those sweet smiles! I wish I had a ball of yarn in every color of the leaves in your first photo, what a blanket they would make.

I love the pink leaves. So very pretty and thick.
I love the travel pics you show and thinking of the Beatle songs like Strawberry Fields takes me back.
You capture such adorable pics of the girls.
Love the sunset photo. I enjoyed the sunset from our hotel rooms but the pictures are scenic with the parking lots as the view.
Enjoy the new week. We got home this afternoon.

Thanks Bonnie. I am glad you are back home safely. I know you enjoyed your time with your sweet family. Enjoy your week!
