Hello sweet friends. The weather was absolutely gorgeous this past weekend and we enjoyed working in the garden and just being outdoors. How was your weekend? I hope it was wonderful as well!
“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.””
Psalm 91:1-2
It is Monday Morning Blooms with my lovely friends Lidy, Mary, and Shirley. We are honored to welcome a special guest today.
We will celebrate Memorial Day on Monday, May 31st. Most of us consider it the beginning of summer. We plan outdoor barbecues, picnics by the lake, beach trips, and parades. It is important to remember the true meaning of the holiday. It is a day dedicated to honor the fallen soldiers, those that never came home, that fought and paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
You will find the links for my talented friends at the end of this post.
Our special guest is one of the sweetest bloggers, Shannon from Belle Bleu Interiors. She has a gorgeous home decorated in her signature French country style, a personal favorite of mine. Shannon shares her love for all things home with her readers.
Our common theme for this edition of Monday Morning Blooms is red, white, and blue. The weather was perfect for setting a garden table!
“Our flag does not fly because the wind moves it. It flies with the last breath of each soldier who died protecting it.”
~Unknown
My floral arrangement is simple…no fuss involved! Hydrangeas along with red and white dianthus (sweet Williams) were placed in one of my favorite vases! Cobalt blue bud vases also hold dianthus. With two late season frosts, torrential rain, and nights in the forties, flowers have been hard to come by. I was so happy to have a few stems from my friend’s hydrangea farm and the dianthus from Deep Roots Flower Farm.
A vintage white embroidered cutwork table cloth provided the foundation for the table setting.
“Those who have long enjoyed such privileges as we enjoy forget in time that men have died to win them.”
~Franklin D. Roosevelt
Navy placemats, chippy chargers, Spode “blue room” dinner plates, and beautiful Crown Linens napkins along with ruby red stemware and hammered stainless flatware complete the tabletop!
I love as the sun begins to set and a stillness settles in over the garden!
We always host Memorial Day at our house. Butch will fire up the grill and we will have our traditional hamburgers and hot dogs. The meal would not be complete without a freezer of homemade ice cream!
In 1971, Memorial Day was declared a national holiday by an act of Congress. It was then placed on the last Monday in May. Prior to 1971, the holiday was officially known as Decoration Day for more than a century and was always observed on May 30. It was a time for the nation to decorate the graves of the war dead with flowers.
“And I’m proud to be an American, where at least I know I’m free. And I won’t forget the men who died, that gave that right to me.”
~Lee Greenwood

Pam, I always know I’m in for a treat when I have a virtual seat at a table in your garden! Both your table and flowers are gorgeous and the perfect salute to Memorial Day! I love the addition of the Sweet William in the cobalt vases and pop of red from your goblets and CLD embroidered napkins! The weather has been glorious this past week and perfect for dining outdoors. . . later this week when we’re in the 90s, not so much. 🙂 As always it’s a treat to join you for some flower therapy. Thanks for the beautiful start to my day. Happy Monday ♥

Gorgeous Pam!!!….I did not realize that the 50th Anniversary of making Memorial Day a national holiday was this year! Oh your flowers are always so beautifully selected and arranged and how I envy that you have flower farms nearby. Oh my gosh, I started pinning the first picture and couldn’t stop because each one is so beautiful. The vase takes my little blue-and-white-loving breath away. The Crown Linen napkins are surely in the right hands at your table! So pretty, the gardens in the background, the colored glass (another favorite of mine), the flowers-all of it. I love the quotes you have used as well and I will write them down. Thank you for a beautiful journey to your garden.

Thanks for reminding me that it’s 50 years the USA is celebrating Memorial Day. Red white and blue it will be. I especially love the quote by the unknown person. So many of our sons and daughters, husbands and fathers, brothers and sisters, are not at home with us because they gave their life that we may have a safe and free country. Praise God that He has held us safe under His wings. I pray we never stop remembering that!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Yes, Alice praying we always remember!

Oh, the hydrangeas look so pretty in that red vase! Great choice! I am so thankful for all the soldiers who have fought for us, and knowing how they sacrificed makes it even more painful to watch our precious nation being brought down by such evil. It is hard to celebrate during such a time, but for the sake of those dear patriots, we must keep their remembrance alive.
