Happy Tuesday sweet readers! I hope your week is off to a great start. It has turned hot and dry in our Appalachian Foothills and I believe summer has arrived!
“By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.”
Proverbs 24:3-4
Some of the sweetest moments come from the unexpected, the unplanned, the serendipitous! One such moment happened this past Saturday afternoon.
Our daughter-in-love texted and said the girls want to come and play. Yes, of course! Five minutes later they arrived. Queen Ella Mae was carrying the case with the unicorn tea set that we had recently given for her fifth birthday. She greeted me with a hug, a kiss, and immediately asked if we could have a tea party. Princess Emma Kennedy agreed it was a wonderful idea.
I am all about a pretty, planned, and perfect tea party! But, this was unplanned…no cute unicorn cookies and no sweet tablecloth and napkins! But what I did have were two little girls that wanted a simple tea party with their PJ. As you might guess, I just went with it!
We discussed where the tea party should take place. Would it be the kitchen floor, the patio, the picnic table, or the Sunshine Cottage? The patio won out. I had a roll of unicorn wrapping paper that became our tablecloth. Notice there were no flowers, the darling faces of Emma and Ella Mae were more than enough…no floral arrangement needed!
Big sister decided on what color cups were to be used by each guest. Her favorite color is hot pink!
Little sister received the lavender, supposedly it is her favorite color or maybe it just matched her top? I love the heart on each of the cups.
The girls are not a fan of hot tea, sweet iced tea was served from the cute unicorn tea pot by the Queen. Big sister is no longer a princess, she made the announcement about a year ago that she is the queen and little sister is a princess.
Our only accompaniment to the iced tea were graham crackers. Simple, sweet, and sufficient! Princess EK was quite satisfied with the grahams and made it clear she needed additional servings.
As you probably know, I love taking pictures of the girls especially when I am not trying to get them to pose! I had no plans to turn my pics into a blog post, but after looking them over, I couldn’t resist!
This was not our first tea party. We have had many on the kitchen floor. Da and Ella Mae even had one on the picnic table that did not include me. Hopefully there will be many planned tea parties in our future, but the unplanned just might be the best! You can see a planned party here.
The unexpected tea party was a success. The girls enjoyed it and memories were made that I will long cherish and hold in my heart! Wyatt will definitely be invited when he is a bit older but I suspect such a party wouldn’t be his “cup of tea”. Have I mentioned how much I love being their PJ?
Thank you so much for indulging this doting grandmother. I appreciate your visit and love reading the gracious comments. Wishing you a most delightful day!

The photographs you took are such a treasure and turned out perfect. Those girls are absolutely precious and that sweet tea set is so pretty! I remember my favorite birthday gifts when I was a little girl was always a set of play dishes….imagine that-lol. I think dishes are still my favorite gift! Thanks again for sharing your tea party with us. It brightened my morning. We have had nothing but rain and clouds for two weeks solid. Enjoy your day, my dear friend!

Cute! Sometimes the unexpected soirées turn out to be the most memorable! And I love how the older sister has now proclaimed herself Queen and bestowed the (lesser but still fun) title of Princess upon her little sister!😄

What an adorable tea set! Spur of the moment parties are always the best, and the girls looks so cute sipping their “tea!” We didn’t drink real tea at CC’s recent tea party either, we had sweet tea and lemonade. It is truly a blessing to have grands living close by…I love that EM declared herself the queen and her sister a princess, that’s hilarious!

I have my gingham dress, organdy pinafore and Mary Janes in readiness (maybe I can manage a hair bow as charming as Princess EK’s) in hopes that I will be appropriately attired for the next impromptu tea party…Oh what fun! You are providing such a magical atmosphere for the lovely Queen and Princess, Pam, that I believe they will be fortified to always find beauty in their surroundings and lives.
They are prime subjects for photographing beautiful memories of growing up with their PJ.

Your attire sounds so perfect Mary. I must say the tea party was a smashing success. The Queen is already planning another one. Little Princess will be happy whatever is planned.

Debbie says
Your story is just delightful!!! I enjoyed each photo of your adorable Granddaughters and all of your heartfelt words. Being so blessed to be a Grandma as well… I also have a precious 5 year old Granddaughter and she and I have enjoyed special tea parties together. When I was a little girl my own dearest Dutch Grandmother always stopped for Dutch teatime every afternoon. When I was at her house I loved doing this special custom with her. We often had teamilk and buttered graham crackers sprinkled with sugar. I cherish those very special simple moments I shared with my Grandmother. I knew that I would pass this tradition on someday if I was blessed with a Granddaughter. I have a sweet little Demitasse tea set from Germany and the cups are just the right size for little hands. I have my Granddaughter make chocolate or strawberry milk in the teapot and then she pours it into our cups. I also have her serve a cookie on our little plates. Then she says, “What should we talk about now?” So we sit and visit and sip our chocolate milk and eat cookies together. Each moment I have created with her is such a Treasure. Your Granddaughters are such beautiful little girls. Enjoy each special moment of Grandmotherhood!!! You are so kind to share this sweet story in your wonderful inspiring blog! P.S. Grandsons are such Fun! We have three and I know you will enjoy the greatest adventures with your new little fellow as he grows up!!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Debbie, thank you so much for sharing memories of tea with your grandmother and now with your granddaughter. I so enjoyed reading them. Your sweet comments warmed my heart. Grandchildren are a wonderful reward for getting older!
