“For he draws up the drops of water; they distill his mist in rain, which the skies pour down and drop on mankind abundantly.”
Job 36:27-28
A “soupy” kind of morning last week was welcome because it had been dry for a number of days. An evening rain brought a freshness!
We couldn’t pass up what might be some of the last “straight from the farm” strawberries this season. Sometimes large and late season berries aren’t as sweet but that was not true of these from Sand Mountain
Pam visited a dear friend last week who just happens to grow hundreds of hydrangeas of various types. No exaggeration. And of course… she just happened to have her camera handy!
These came home with her and will make their way into a Monday Morning Blooms post scheduled for tomorrow. I figure a variety of vases with some special arranging will take place but I personally like them in this 5 gallon bucket right here on the porch!
And speaking of the porch…Queen EM and Princess EK thought the Sunshine Cottage was a great place to camp out. When they asked their Da if I would put up the tent, I quickly said absolutely. And then I learned of the location they had picked out. So, what do you think happened next? I am also the one who keeps the frig stocked with chocolate milk that I try to hide from their mother and PJ.
Raindrop tears…
…refreshment from the heavens!
Our drift roses have yielded some gorgeous blooms in spite of the fact that the foliage and the plants in general have not looked healthy at all this year. We’ve not yet figured out what we need to do in order to have better looking bushes!
A green anole is showing off (he thinks). I saw him the next day, still alone, so I don’t believe this is working!
Our first blooms this season from our Lake Norman day lilies. This lily traveled by mail from North Carolina and has bloomed every year since it arrived!
Pam spotted this photo on social media this week. There was no credit given as to whom the photographer may have been. It caught her eye because it is our downtown, in early January, 1964. Pam and I were kids but we both remember the New Year’s Day snow storm. This was possibly made a day later as it appears stores are open and shoppers are out and about. I noticed a couple of newer model cars, including what I believe to be a Ford Thunderbird and a 1963 Ford in front of it? I am not great at identifying these old models but I do see fender skirts on what I think is the t-bird. Does anyone remember those? We thought it would be interesting to grab a pic from the same spot on Broad Street yesterday…
…a little different scene!
With June and meteorological summer now upon us, mimosas always help to announce the occasion.
A closer look at the “anatomy” of a mimosa bloom. Many of us have fond childhood memories of mimosa trees. They were good to climb. My grandmother had planted one that by the time I was 10 or 12, had perfectly spaced limbs for swinging like tarzan. Not native to America, however mimosas have been here since the late 1700’s when they were first introduced to our southern climate in Charleston, SC. Some folks love them, others despise them. The bloom is quite pretty but it does turn an ugly brown when it fades and the long brown bean pods appear and those hang around into the winter. Honestly, it is an ugly tree in the winter!
We will let this sunset be our throwback for today. June, 2020. Does it look like an angel in the center keeping watch over the evening?
”Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever”.

Thank you Carole…enjoy your day!

Happy Sunday, Pam and Butch! Those hydrangeas are swoon worthy!! Did you two know each other in 1964? Were you in the same class? I love mimosa trees…we use to pretend the blossoms were powder puffs. I still have a scar from falling out of one that my mother distinctly told me not to climb! It is very dark here this morning, and we are hoping for much needed rain. Once again, it is hard to pick a favorite picture this morning!!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Good morning, Roxanne. It is raining here this morning with rain forecasted for most of the week. We were also in need of rain. No, Butch and I didn’t know each other and we didn’t attend the same schools. We met in 1970, the summer before my junior year in high school. He had finished his first year of college. The rest is history ♥️
I loved climbing the mimosas. I don’t remember falling. EM loves to climb trees.
Happy Sunday and enjoy the rain!

Love the glamping tent for the girls! I know Pam was in heaven at the hydrangea farm, and I always look forward to Monday Morning Blooms and the beautiful arrangements they create. It’ funny that snow storms are so rare in Alabama that we remember every one! I hope you both have a beautiful rainy week, so good for your garden blooms!

Thank you Jenna. Yes we celebrate a snow in the South. Enjoy your week!

Good morning Pam and Butch-The strawberries look delicious! The hydrangeas are huge! Looking forward to seeing your lovely MMB arrangement. The girls are having fun in their camo tent. How cute! Your day lily is such a pretty color. I love the throw back pic to a much simpler time when we were all still kids. Mimosa trees are pretty but not my favorite as that’s where the small switches came from to keep me in line! Lol My grandmother used to say I’d thank her later for her making me behave and she was right! Good memories of a most special sweet lady that I still love dearly. We’re going to have a soggy week but we need the rain. Enjoy your day! Clara ❤️
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Clara. Yes, a soggy week for us, but we also need the rain. Oh, I remember those switches. We would later be grateful for the discipline. Thank you for sharing your love for your sweet grandmother. Enjoy your week ♥️

Good Sunday Morning my lovely friends, Butch and Pam.
The hydrangeas in the blue bucket were perfect! And the littles in their pink tent… priceless!
I loved your words… “raindrops from heaven!”
We got needed rain here the other day… but still praying for rain in our beloved desert. The saguaros are extremely thirsty!
The snowy picture of your downtown and the more recent one was something to see! I did see a Thunderbird! My uncle had a new Thunderbird every other year and I remember them when I was a young girl.
Happy Sunday my dear ones…💗
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Nancy. A visit to the hydrangea farm is food for the soul. Hopefully rain will fall in your beloved desert.
Happy Sunday, my friend♥️

Oh to have such an hydrangea source so close at hand…just beautiful in the blue bucket. Looking forward to the presentation on MMB. What an opening of the gate
to the past those two photos of the downtown avenue were. Don’t know why, but the
older snow-laden town sight tugged at my heartstrings. Simpler times – hopeful days.
However, the couple holding hands while strolling in the later picture suggests times
don’t change that much if we but watch. The camping royalty at Sunshine Cottage have the right idea about keeping Grandpa at the ready for refreshments.. How children open their arms to relationships and new experiences. And I opened my arms to bringing home a similar supply of strawberries while they still came freshly picked. So blessed. Another uplifting Sabbath in words and pictures from Pam and
Butch. Many, many thanks.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much dear one! Can you believe royalty plays in a camo tent on the porch, and said royalty requires chocolate milk! A bowl of fresh strawberries was a wonderful start to the day!
Bonnie Morgan says
Happy Sunday! Glad you had some refreshing rain and it looks like more is on the way.
The girls have caught on quickly who to ask and get what they want.
Those strawberries look delicious.
The bucket of hydrangeas are beautiful colors. I look forward to MMB tomorrow. Thanks for the reminder.
Enjoy your Sunday.

What a fun post. I love the thought of the girls camping. And strawberry season — I had my first harvest — nine berries. A few short of a shortcake but very sweet!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
The strawberries were so sweet to be at the end of our season.

That sunset is stunning and does look like an angel watching over the earth! I imagine those sweet girls had such a fun time camping in the tent. Your day lillies are so pretty with that lovely pink color, and I love mimosas trees. They always remind me of summertime. Wishing you both a wonderful week ahead!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you sweet friend. Wishing you sunshine!

Love the B&A of your small town street. It’s fun to see the changes, but sure confirms us being old, lol! I am in the camp of despising mimosas, sorry. But the hydrangeas and strawberries are both big yeses!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
We don’t have any mimosas on our property. I think their blooms are pretty, but that is about all they have to offer. Thanks, Rita!
Alice Genzlinger says
I remember the thunderbird. I worked for a doctor that had a red and white convertible thunderbird. He would send me to the local hospital for ether and I got to drive his bird with the top down. I told his wife that I felt special. She told me that as long as it was me that it was alright. She was a find lady and he was a wonderful doctor. Thanks for showing the mimosa. My grandmother had them lining the path up to her house. Yes we climbed them. I never even got a scolding from that sweet lady. All the grands loved her and tried to behave in her presence,
Pam @ Everyday Living says
How fun that you were a convertible thunderbird. Those mimosas were so fun to climb!
