“Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.”
John 6:35
An old Methodist church in the northern part of our county stands near an active railroad. It is also near a crossing. By chance a train headed north toward Chattanooga rumbled past while we were stopped here. The whistle gave several warnings near the crossing. Pam and I wondered if the preacher had to pause the sermon briefly if trains passed during a church service? It was loud but southern preachers can be loud also!
There is something that is magic and exciting about the harvest. A feeling that comes in the fall when I pass a scene like this corn field. You can’t describe it, you just know when it happens!
By the way, do you see a figure at the end of the clouds on the right that looks like Thomas the Tank Engine? PJ says no, but I see a face. I’m probably the only one, but I am writing the captions and that entitles me to something surely?
The gulf fritillaries are everywhere but seem to favor the zinnias. And this particular tall, “stand alone from the crowd” zinnia is their choice pick…
…they are also very beautiful when the wing’s underside is seen. The passionflower is their caterpillars host, and they are sometimes called the passion butterfly!
Little Wyatt Lee is quite passionate too…about smiling and eating. He is growing which is a good thing. He needs to be strong and tough to receive the loving he gets from…
…these two. Queen EM and Princess EK love the little Prince and demonstrate their affection with firm squeezes and hugs!
September is a great time to walk some trails along the lake and bog area. A late season bloomer that provides a lot of nectar for pollinators is the biennial beeblossom. We’ve not featured this plant before but it caught my eye last week. To me, the blooms look similar to honeysuckle!
A couple of aquatic plants that I always enjoy are pickerel weed…
…and water hyacinth! Gorgeous late season displays.
You never know what you might find while riding the backroads. We had seen a sign that warned of a bridge with a 3 ton limit. After snooping around underneath, I’d say that warning isn’t a bad idea. This was a very muddy creek yesterday but I did note what appeared to be the remains of a rope swing hung from a tree. An old swimming hole perhaps? We had some nice closeups of the structure but sadly a lot of undesirable graffiti was a spoiler!
Just down from the old bridge, someone is doing a nice job of restoring an old barn!
With dryer, cooler air, and a nice breeze, comes the urge to eat alfresco. PJ and I took advantage of a wonderful late afternoon to enjoy shrimp po boys out on the patio. So good!
You will have to indulge us here with more than one late evening skyscape. A cool front pushed through and brought beautiful, typical September evenings late in the week and we could not get enough of this one!
We are awed at God’s handiwork and privileged to see His displays!
The kind of afternoon you wish you could hold on to for a little while. But then that would cause us to miss the beauty of the next moments.
A few moments later, in the afterglow… it was time to say good evening from the Sunshine Cottage!
Have a blessed day and a peaceful week!

Pam and Butch, Your sunset shots and the Sunshine Cottage pic in the late evening are fabulous! Your alfresco dining meal looks delicious. Wyatt is really growing and so are the girls. Their outfits are so cute. Always enjoy seeing their sweet faces Love the old church and barn. The creekside pic with rising water and old bridge along with the rope swing is an interesting shot. Don’t think I would jump into that muddy creek though! Always love the nature shots. You’re right about the southern pastors. Most don’t really need a microphone and can compete easily with planes and trains! Lol Have a wonderful week! Clara❤️
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Clara. I agree, I wouldn’t step foot in that muddy creek. It was a little too snaky for me. Wishing you a lovely week ♥️

Good morning, Pam and Butch. The photos are simply amazing. Those girls are growing way to quickly. Can’t you do something about it? I know you wish you could. And the little guy is so handsome, he is going to be great fun.
I love the old buildings, the always speak to me as I wonder about the souls who they once sheltered and also enjoyed them.
Your sunsets are breathtaking ~ only God paints such beauty.
Wishing all of you a wonderful week ahead!

Those evening skyscapes are breathtaking…. it takes the vivid imagination of one who sees images in clouds to capture the
beauty of the Lord’s creation at just the right moment, Butch. Bravo! Master Pooh is growing so quickly and his awareness
level seems quite keen.. must have something to do with the promptings and hugs from the Queen and Princess and all the
others who love on him. Another Sabbath filled with the soul-satisfying photos and messages derived from nature and the Word. A blessed one to all.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Mary. The little one is growing too quickly. He is a wonderful baby. always smiling!
Roxanne Bernard says
Wyatt has grown so much! He is going to catch up with the Queen and Princess in no time at all! The sunset shots are magnificent and the Blue Hour at Sunshine Cottage is perfection. I was grilling the other night and happened to look up just in time to see the International Space Station fly over!! It was glowing bright silver in the setting sun, and I nearly burned our meal watching it move from horizon to horizon!! I’ve pulled up the schedule again, so I can be ready and waiting for it…it is amazingly always on time.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Wyatt has really grown the past month. He is a wonderful baby, always happy and rarely cries. It is always exciting to see the space station fly over. Happy week, my friend!

I cannot get enough of your Simple Southern Sundays, whether it’s sunsets, grandchildren (you are so very blessed) or strange flowers I’ve never heard of or seen before. Speaking of never seen before, I cannot for the life of me find the Thomas the Tank image! Maybe next week you should circle it and make out the features for us! That’s going to drive me crazy! Have a great week, you two!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Rita, thank you for following Simple Southern Sunday. I couldn’t really see Thomas initially, but then I did. It is funny, since Butch started writing SSS’s, he has quite the following. He is amazing with his knowledge. He is a life long learner and he is teaching EM to love all of nature.

Oh the picture of the farmer harvesting his field. Thank you God for the bounty! And no I agree with EM but I did see the puppy siting in wind that’s blowing his ears back in the cloud. Did you see it?and I thought the vine was honeysuckle. Now the clouds I thought of the war that goes on between Heavens warriors versus the devils demons. A picture of Him fighting for us. My goodness Monday is starting out rather biblical. The queen and princess look so sweet and innocent. Wyatt surely agrees. May you have a safe and blessed week.

Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Jeanie. I took EM shopping and she loved the dress, so I had to buy it, of course!

Lovely pictures. Either the preacher could shout a little louder, or stop for the train. My guess is most would should louder. 🙂 The water hyacinth is so pretty. Never seen one before. God really creates some beautiful scenes for us here.

Those cloud formations are really something. It amazes me how God never runs out of ideas! May He bless you both!
