Hello sweet friends. Are you as excited as I am for autumn? Have I mentioned it is my favorite season?
“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;”
Ecclesiastes 3:1-2
The September garden is taking on its autumn color!
The garden is definitely changing. The tree to the right is one of a pair of Sioux crape myrtles, they lose their leaves early as you can see.
Many of the vanilla strawberry blooms are taking on their brown color which will remain through the winter…
…but a few still have their darker pink color!
Bloodgood Japanese maple is beginning to show changes! I love the juxtaposition of the maple against the chartreuse of the sunshine ligustrums! Limelight hydrangeas are almost overshadowed but have managed to peep through.
My Renaissance Man installed lighting in the garden for fall and the holiday season. I am loving the ambiance at night!
I am often asked if we have a gardener or yard crew. This sweet man is the head gardener and I am the crew! He is the hardest working person I have ever known, his work ethic is unbelievable. He started working summers and after school when he was fourteen. He turned seventy this past April and he still works full time and maintains our garden plus our twenty-one acres of land and helps our son with his eleven acres.
The celosia was planted from seed last year and it came back!
Weeding has fallen behind. It is a job I try to take care of, but I think I gave up. The head gardener has been lenient. He knows I have been busy all summer playing with our grandchildren. That’s the only thing that saved my job!
RM decorated the cottage garden!
I know you all have been expecting to see a finished cottage garden. So far, this is all we have accomplished. Butch extended the picket fence to include the cottage garden space and one flower bed was put in.
Hopefully the space in front of the cottage and within the pea gravel walk and the fence will be filled with some interesting features and plants by spring. A busy and wet summer managed to keep progress at a slow pace!
Autumn fire sedum…
…is showing out!
By mid September the garden is getting tired, just like me!
The Sunshine Cottage at the blue hour!
Thank you for your visit and gracious comments. Wishing you a joy-filled week!

I love your garden in all her seasons Pam!! So glad the head gardener has been lenient with you. 🙂 What a work horse Butch is and I love the new lighting. I noticed it twinkling in the background in your autumn tablescape post. I’ve given up and fallen behind on my garden chores with our 90 degree days and humidity. The past few days have been so nice with cooler mornings and a break from the heat but it’s creeping back up again. Love the drone shot and perspective it gives. Happy Tuesday ♥
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Mary, it is hot here again. I just haven’t the “want to” for weed pulling. Thanks so much 🧡

Oh, Pam, what a glorious property you and Butch have! That aerial view is spectacular. The amount of work involved with maintaining a property such as yours is both exhilarating and exhausting, I know. The new lighting, fence surrounding and bed within the Sunshine Cottage are wonderful new works this year. God bless you both with the energy it takes for your family and the rest of us to enjoy. Thank you for sharing.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Rita. You know the sweat equity with your former gardens!

Lovely! It has been so warm here that our fall season will get a late start. Not much happening except for the vegetable patch winding down.

Thanks Carole.

Pam, your garden is a magical place and I never tire of seeing it in all it’s seasonal glory! The new lighting is beautiful, you are really going to enjoy that. I can’t imagine how you two keep up with all that gardening, that is incredible! I love the drone shot, so fantastic to see it’s perfection from above. The Autumn Fire Sedum is stunning and the Sunshine Cottage in the blue hour is so lovely. Pretty soon your grands will be able to help you with all that weeding!

Thank you Jenna. EM only wants to pick flowers right now.

Pam, The head gardener is indeed a hard working man! Your garden looks professionally landscaped and your yard is always beautifully mowed. The new lighting adds even more charm to your garden. Love the Sunshine Cottage fencing and new flower bed. I must admit I have been remiss in my weeding duties. I figure the weeds will be easier to see! That’s a chore on my to do list. All your plants are so healthy and happy. The drone shot is fabulous! Enjoy your day! Clara❤️
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Clara for always commenting. I love reading your comments and encouraging words♥️
Shelia says
Hi Pam! Oh, your gardens and the grounds on your property looks so pretty! Love all of the different shades of the bushes peeping over the fence! You sure have a green thumb and it shows.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia 😉

Thanks so much Shelia. Have a wonderful day!

That’s ALL you have accomplished on the garden cottage? You make it sound like you just dug a couple of holes and thew in the towel! Well, that’s GORGEOUS. I know you won’t but you could stop right there and it would still be perfect! Fall blooms have a beauty all their own, even as they ease up and gently take a break.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Jeanie. I hope you are having a wonderful day!

Thank you Dianne. Wishing you a wonderful rest of the week!

I often wondered how you managed your gorgeous gardens. The heat this year kept me inside, and luckily I had weeded heavily in Spring, so at least it didn’t look too bad on our walks to the mailbox, lol and then scurrying back in. We will have lots of catch-up maintenance when the temps moderate. Gorgeous gardens and I’m waiting for my Sedum to turn…still white/pale pink, as it is my favorite for decorating! Hugs, Sandi
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Sandi. You were smart to weed heavily in spring!
Elizabeth Phillips says

The blue hour! Wow! Now to being too busy to weed; playing with the grands is the very best excuse I’ve ever heard. And, Butch did very good in excusing you!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Yes, Butch understands what is most important. Happy Wednesday, Alice!

Pam, your garden is amazing. What an autumn look it has and one would think that would be in our area. We are beginning to see a tinge of red or gold here and there but not too much. I love the new lighting and it must be wonderful to enjoy while you are sitting outside.
Enjoy these September days, we are already to the middle of the month. Have a wonderful week!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you dear Sandra. Enjoy the September days as they are passing quickly!

Your garden is stunning all year round! Lovely garden pictures my friend. And Butch is a fabulous guy! My sweet man is a hard worker as well. We are so lucky to have such wonderful men.
I too am tired. I’m all gung-ho in May when we arrive …but I am now pooped out. 😯
Loved all your pictures of your fall garden dear Pam… Enjoy the rest of your week!

RM needs a promotion for the light installation, the garden looks positively magical with the new lighting. It is so uplifting to see a couple still in love and wanting to “do” for each other after so many years! You have the perfect garden design because it is interesting and lovely in all seasons. I love the drone shot! I keep looking at all the trees and think”all those leaves are going to come down soon”. Just that thought makes me tired!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
It is a lot of sweat equity that has been invested. But, we love it and are so thankful that we still can do it all!
Thank you dear one!

Your garden is superb in any season due to its “good bones”…the forms are so well situated and combined and once the varying seasonal colors take hold, a whole new perspective emerges. Gifted RM produced another spectacular in the new
lighting feature…enchanting. I have to say it again, “Paradiso!” Each season you produce an atmosphere of beauty, serenity
and inspiration ….. a labor or love. Gratia….

Pam, your garden is lovely year round, but I know what you mean about looking tired. My containers need a refresh, and beds need to be cleaned up. Summer takes a toll. Like you, I’m tired too! Ha! Ha!
I love sedum and should remember to plant some.

Oh, Pam! This is my favorite post of yours – ever! I can’t begin to tell you how much I LOVE the lights in the garden! Oh, that one picture – it just takes me away! I could sit out there for hours talking to Jesus and sipping a cup of coffee. Your place is truly a heaven on earth. The flowers draw one’s thoughts to their Creator every, single time. I trust the Lord will keep both of you healthy and strong to continue your work there for many more years. You truly are a ministry to the world. Each person who comes here gets to read God’s Word AND the sights you share from your “paradise” are like a soothing, healing balm in these troubled times. God bless you both!
