“And, “You, Lord, laid the foundation of the earth in the beginning, and the heavens are the work of your hands; they will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment, like a robe you will roll them up, like a garment they will be changed. But you are the same, and your years will have no end.””
Hebrews 1:10-12
One morning last week as I opened my truck door to hop in and leave for the office, the thought struck me that it was a nice morning to take a walk. I have a lot of thoughts that I never act on but…Instead of leaving for work I strolled along the pasture fences waiting for daylight!
As it turned out, taking a hike before sunrise this particular morning wasn’t such a bad idea!
A day trip to Gibbs Gardens in north Georgia is always a nice experience. Last week was no exception when P J and I drove over and spent a few hours on an absolutely “picture perfect” autumn day. Our main interest were the millions (yes literally millions) of wild flowers. The fields of cosmos were stunning and…
…attract numbers of migrating monarch butterflies. The monarchs pass through in October and are usually on their way further south by early November.
New Guinea impatiens were decked out and seemed refreshed by the morning dew.
Common corn-flag (on the left) I suppose gets it’s name from looking similar to a corn stalk? It is really a gladiolus and sometimes called Eastern gladiolus.
When WL gets older he may not approve of being featured amongst a floral grouping of pics but will likely be a bit happier as part of a farm setting. So, in case he sees this in the future I hope the following will somewhat redeem me!
I was sowing annual ryegrass along the fence line and number 53 came over to investigate. They normally won’t let me get too close but I guess it’s different when they want something!
With light rain and a little chill in the air the lingering summer blooms and the ongoing autumn changes offer a nice blend of color combinations! Transition!
A dozen times over the hot summer I thought the creeping Jenny was dead and I reached to pull it up but noticed a small sign of life. So, I would water it well and give it another chance. The soil depth in the old rusty statue is very limited and even planting something there was an afterthought. Look at this nice autumn display that would’ve been missed if Jenny had not been given some second chances! There has to be a lesson in this!
A few more beautiful and tranquil scenes from Gibbs Gardens as fall color was definitely beginning to show itself.
The Monet inspired bridge…
…and other water reflections were at their best on a perfectly calm day with ponds as slick as glass.!
To complete last week we were able to party thanks to our son and daughter-in-love (ACR), and of course the little ones. ACR, along with EM and EK made Pam’s favorite, Hummingbird cake, and family and friends had a wonderful time celebrating PJ’s #!th birthday. And, no Hummingbirds were harmed in the making of the cake, only waistlines.
”Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever”.

Happy Birthday Pam! I have never had a Hummingbird Cake. I may need to bake one! Yours looked delightful.
The reflections in your captures at Gibbs Gardens are stunning! Definitely reminiscent of Monet’s Paintings.
However, I’m so glad that Butch stopped and smelled the roses before he set out for work and enjoyed that breathtaking sunrise. It’s truly the simple pleasures that make us all so happy. Plus, we got to see it tooooo!
Happy Sunday to you both and Happy Halloween.

That early morning experience, given the photos, was a God-moment… You really brought Gibbs Gardens to life for us through your other takes, Butch…. The lovely creeping jenny illustrates the “never give up” benefit of holding on and
nurturing. WL is a heart-melter and the girls in school are going to be goners. So many of us are already.A blessed birthday to our cherished Pam, who defies the years and redeems every moment in love and wisdom. So glad hummingbirds were preserved in creating that tempting cake. A happy Sabbath wish and gratitude for your sharing.

Thanks so much, Mary. Your heartwarming comments are always appreciated. Sending hugs!

Thanks for taking us on your visit to Gibbs Garden. So pretty. There are no flowers left in our yard. It’s cold here and we are expecting our first snow this afternoon. 😡 Also Monday and Tuesday.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Oh, no snow. Stay warm, Alice!

Belated birthday wishes to Pam. Hummingbird cake has been around for at least 40 years and I’ve probably made almost that many.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Alice. I love hummingbird cake, it is my favorite dessert. It is an old recipe that appeared in Southern Living and it is still one of their most requested recipes.
Alice Genzlinger says
I still have the Southern Living magazine that the Hummingbird cake was first published. If also has the cream cheese braids that I made that Christmas too,
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Alice, I used to keep all of mine but I ran out of room.

Good morning, Butch and Pam. The photos are all wonderful. The cosmos was amazing, One could cut bouquet after bouquet there. Dear little WL and his big blue eyes.
