We Gather Together

November 9, 2021~ Autumn, Blog hop, Everyday Living, Faith, Thanksgiving

Happy Tuesday, sweet readers. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays and I can’t believe how quickly it is approaching. I am joining twenty one table stylists for a Thanksgiving Tablescape Blog Hop hosted by my talented friend, Rita at Panoply!

“Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name!”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭100:4‬ ‭ESV‬‬

If all goes as planned, my precious family will be seated around our table as “we gather together to ask the Lord’s blessing.” I remember as a child, in our small rural church, we always sang a song that contained this phrase on the Sunday before Thanksgiving. I hold many precious memories of that time and place! The song, titled “We Gather Together”, comes from the early 1600’s and most sources indicate the author is unknown.

Gathering with those I love the most is a gracious blessing from the Heavenly Father. It is especially meaningful this year. Last year I prepared my Thanksgiving meal and made deliveries to family members. It was the first time in eighteen years we had been unable to host nor were we able to gather as a family.

Did you notice that I have changed tablescape locations? Since last spring all of my tablesettings have been in the garden or the Sunshine Cottage. Today, I am back in the dining room to share a Thanksgiving table!

You will find the links for all the creative table stylists at the bottom of this post.

As I was contemplating how I would style my table, I decided to keep things simple, use what I have, and not make any new purchases.

Our garden is beyond spent and will soon be put to bed. So, while pondering what to do for a centerpiece.. a light bulb moment occurred! A wood slice charger was the perfect foundation for a stack of well loved and often used American Atelier stoneware…charger, dinner plate, salad plate, and soup bowl. I keep a supply of moss, so it was easy to fill the spaces between the plates to soften the look. A velvet pumpkin placed on top finished my centerpiece! If you missed last week’s Monday Morning Blooms, you can see how I used velvet pumpkins for a vignette.

Early morning sunlight dances on a tablecloth that has graced many autumn and Thanksgiving tables. It has a lovely gold scrolled border!

“Reflect upon your present blessings, of which every man has plenty; not on your past misfortunes, of which all men have some.”
-Charles Dickens

Pheasant feather placemats have been a staple on autumn tables for the last twenty years. America Atelier “baroque” charger, Spode “woodland” dinner plate, and Bordallo Pinheiro salad plate complete the stack. A paisley napkin is paired with an amber napkin ring to provide jewelry for the table!

Eight different game birds are depicted on my Spode dinner plates. Each bird is illustrated in great detail and framed by Spode’s British Flowers border which dates back to 1831.

Left to right – Quail, Pheasant,
Bottom Row – Pintail, Snipe

“An attitude of gratitude is a never-ending prayer.”
-William Arthur Ward

Antler sheds and pumpkin stems…

…add a woodland vibe to the table!

Last Friday afternoon, my sweet daughter-in-love and three grands dropped by. EM, our five year old, walked into the dining room and was so excited to see the table completely decorated. She said, “PJ this is so pretty, don’t change anything on this table.” She knows me well because I had already decided to tweak a few things. After my darling girl said that, I didn’t touch a thing!

Mallard, Red Grouse
Lapwing, Wood Duck

“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.”
‭‭Numbers‬ ‭6:24-26‬

“Sing praises to His name, He forgets not His own.”

Pam, It’s so nice to pull up a virtual chair and have a seat in your dining room again. I love the different textures gathered together, from your feathered mats, velvet pumpkins, mossy layers, shed antlers and tree slice chargers. I’ve long admired your beautiful Spode Woodland plates. Your Bordallo Pinheiro plates add such a pretty green textural contrast with the brown of your Woodland bordered plates. I love that EM put her seal of approval on your table too. 🙂 As always it’s a treat to join you at the table and hop with you. Happy Tuesday. ♥

Pam, I share the love of the old hymn,” We Gather Together” with you. I also have many fond memories of singing that song.
Gathering Together is a special blessing and I visualize lots of smiles and laughter for you with your family sitting at your pretty and elegant table.
I’ve always admired your pleasant feather placemats. They are timeless in their beauty. Your centerpiece is lovely and creative. The softness of the moss between the layered plate stack topped with a pumpkin catches the eye. The textures of the velvet pumpkin stems and feathers along with the assorted colors and fabric patterns please the eye with variety.
I know you cherish the sweet comment from EM about your table.
    Happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy your family!

Pam, this is traditional excellence! I was wondering if you would move to the dining room for this setting. I think EM is absolutely precious with her comment, and I agree, it’s so pretty! That little one is definitely going to be a stylist. That fourth from bottom photo is just breathtaking with the sunlight and your table elements! The fall colors of your velvet pumpkins, glassware, napkin rings, charger vignette and pheasant placemats are just so crisp and clear against that soft blue on your walls and white based table cloth. Beautiful, Pam. Thank you for delivering your great style with us.

I just love the woodland feel you’ve created with the beautiful china, feathered place mats and especially the moss filled plate stack topped with the orange velvet pumpkin! The color palette is gorgeous, especially with the sunlight spilling in and creating natural highlights. I know your family will gather, enjoy this table, and have a wonderful meal!

Perfect. What an example you set for your grands…and EM is a fast learner as we have observed in the different settings in the Sunshine Cottage!

I also have the Spode dinnerware and have always admired the detail of the birds and their surroundings. Using the feathered placemats and green Bordallo salad plates add to your color palette.

I especially love the Charles Dickens quote.

Pam, your tablescapes never disappoint! The centerpiece is fantabulous! Moss is one of my favorite decorating mediums, and the way you used it here on that stack of plates is just wonderful! It adds so much color and texture, not to mention that wonderful smell that I associate with a woodsy atmosphere. With the wood slice as the base, it is the perfect woodland-themed centerpiece that works like a charm with your Spode!!! Your granddaughter pegged it: Don’t change a thing!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your wonderful family!

I so enjoy the quotes between the pictures. My favorite being the Dickens quote. I’m sure you take your precious time to make each post as lovely as possible and inspiring as possible. It’s so appreciated. I go into the living room and play “We Gather Together” each Thanksgiving when we are home. Another is Over the River and Through the Woods, not sure that’s the title but it conjures Up seed memories. Blessing to you and yours as all of us are gathering together this year only because He made a way where there was no way.

Pam, you have mentioned one of my favorite hymns, and I have been singing it ever since I read your words. The verses from Numbers is one that gives me such peace as our minister says it every week. I feel the same peace as I read the verses and quotations you select every week.
The Queen is correct…your table is simply perfect! Enjoy the rest of your week, my sweet friend.

Pam, your table setting is just stunning! I LOVE how you used the moss and plates to create a unique centerpiece. I’m crushing over those feather placemats, and I love the brown Spode transferware bird plates. I have a soft spot for woodland themes, and your table checks all the boxes! It’s always a pleasure to join you at the virtual table. Happy Thanksgiving!

I am so happy you are going to be able to gather together with family this year. Your table is so lovely and proves one does not need to purchase anything to set a lovely table. I am so touched by the story of your granddaughter telling you not to change a thing. She had it right! The natural elements of moss and antler sheds juxtaposed perfectly with the elegant velvet pumpkins. Wishing you a blessed Thanksgiving.

Happy Wednesday! I set a table next to our woodlan Happy Wednesday! I set a table next to our woodlands in memory of my beautiful Mother who was a lovely example of a Proverbs 31 woman. Mother had the gift of hospitality and shared it with everyone. Karl Rosenfield peonies from my garden fill a treasured keepsake pitcher handed down from my grandmother! A beautiful floral April Cornell ‘Lillianna’ tablecloth and Famille Rose salad plates elevate the status of the old picnic table next to our woodlands. I have collected bejeweled enamel trinket boxes for many years and shared a few on the table for whimsy and fun. For memories of my Mother, click the link in my profile.

With glorious weather, the table next to our woodl With glorious weather, the table next to our woodlands was perfect for teatime! It is Tea on Tuesdays with blogging friends Mary and Kitty. The table is enhanced by views toward the mountain, woodlands, and the large Snowball Viburnum. The verdant rye grass appears as a green carpet that has been spread for Easter! Vintage Fitz and Floyd ‘Herb Garden’ teapots, sugar and creamer, and oval tray are suited for springtime with their embossed bows, vegetables, and words. A bouquet of Kwanzan Cherry blossoms add more spring color to the setting.

I am serving a simple teatime with Earl Grey tea, savory egg salad filled phyllo cups, and sweet vanilla cupcakes with cream cheese icing, and macarons! A favorite cottage rose tablecloth and Essential napkins are by April Cornell.

We are most blessed to celebrate the resurrection of Christ, being the source of new life, yet new life that is eternal. The beauty of this spring will again give way to another autumn in a few months, but the significance of His empty tomb will never change! Happy Thursday! I love setting a table next to our Happy Thursday! I love setting a table next to our woodlands and this is the first one of the season, an Easter/Spring table! I love all the sweet bunny decorations, but Easter is so much more. We celebrate Easter because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. His bodily resurrection enables all those who choose to follow Him to have assured victory over our greatest enemy…death!

I look forward each year when some of my favorite blooms display their amazing beauty in our garden. Snowball viburnum in its full glory with large creamy white blooms. Climbing Lady Banks Rose is covered in hundreds of miniature yellow blooms cascading to the ground. An old-fashioned Bridal Wreath Spirea with its branches arching to the ground in a fountain-like growth habit is loaded with showy double white flowers in clusters of three to six that resemble a bride’s wreath. I still claim the Kwanzan Cherry tree even though it is now on our son’s property. Its ruffled pink double pink blossoms are some of my favorite blooms. All four of these blooms make up an arrangement with a few tulips from the grocery store.

A fluffle of moss bunnies hopped up to the picnic table. A ‘Charming’ tablecloth with Mary Lake-Thompson napkins and Williams Sonoma enchanting ‘Famille Rose’ bunny plates!

I often shared my sweet Daddy and his stories on m I often shared my sweet Daddy and his stories on my blog. My precious Daddy passed away peacefully on March 26th at the age of 94, surrounded by his beloved family! He was born during the depths of the Great Depression. That may have been part of the reason he was always content and loved the simple things.

“A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold.” Proverbs 22:1

After high school graduation he signed to play professional baseball with the Cleveland Indians Organization. His baseball career was cut short when he was drafted in the army. He was seriously wounded in the Korean War and was awarded a Purple Heart and two bronze stars. Upon returning home, he married my beautiful Mother and they shared 54 wonderful years together before she passed away suddenly.

My brother and I grew up in a Christian home, bathed in love, calm, security, and contentment, under the care of the two finest parents anyone could have. Daddy was known as Pawpaw to his three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

My heart is broken, he was the best Daddy a girl could have. I know he is present with the Lord and I rejoice in that promise, knowing too, that my Mother is also in the eternal presence of our Heavenly Father.

Welcome to Sunshine Cottage and the March edition Welcome to Sunshine Cottage and the March edition of Tea on Tuesdays. My inspiration for teatime is the beautiful linens from @april.cornell With the celebration of their 50th anniversary, many Heritage Prints from the archives have returned. Eden is one of the beautiful patterns that has returned. It is a soft purple paradise where butterflies float, roses bloom, and soft sage leaves levitate. As an April Cornell Brand Ambassador, I was gifted these gorgeous linens! I have been a collector of @april.cornell linens for many years…the floral patterns resonate with my love of English Country.

I am serving my favorite, Earl Gray tea, from an Eileen’s Reserve teapot. Teacups by Grace Teaware and vintage Rose Chintz salad plates by Johnson Brothers add more floral patterns to the mix. Japanese Magnolia blooms were cut from my garden and placed in a lilypad teapot!

Happy first Monday of February! After so many cold Happy first Monday of February! After so many cold days, we are experiencing a tease of spring with a 73 degree day that is forecast. After the gray and cloudy days, I needed a dose of color and decided to set a colorful citrus themed brunch! Using a bird gold and pewter stand, I mixed a citrus medley of lemons, oranges, and limes with pink and white carnations as the centerpiece. The table is highlighted with blue and white dishware. Fresh squeezed orange juice, French-pressed coffee and sweet treats of lemon poppyseed muffins, lemon cake with lemon icing, and lemon pastries are perfect for a small brunch. A faux lemon topiary belonged to my beloved Mother and seemed a perfect addition to a citrus-themed table! I love the traditional colors of red and pink! Frilly carnations fill a vintage Staffordshire, ‘Charlotte’ pitcher which rests on an antique Limoges plate with a velvet gold-crowned heart. The plate stack consists of a Royal Stafford ‘Asiatic pheasant’ dinner plate, American Atelier ‘Baroque’ luncheon/salad plate, Johnson Brothers, ‘Winchester’ salad plate, and a vintage pierced Bavarian rose plate!
