“For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly. O Lord of hosts, blessed is the one who trusts in you!”
Psalm 84:11-12
We are blessed to have wonderful neighbors. This is a couple of our nearest neighbors to the east. They often greet me when I venture near their place.
Upon leaving my neighbors, I happened to look up and what did I see…a Waxing Gibbous!
Last week and into this weekend it appears we are entering peak time for color. So, I hope you will indulge us a bit as we share how things are shaping up for autumn around our house.
This “maple row” offers about every color you might expect to see this time of year!
The deep orange of this very mature maple against the lingering green gives the orange an added punch!
I was setting out daffodil bulbs for PJ one afternoon when my gardening crew arrived to assist. You can probably tell by the eyes that all 3 were intent and focused on watching a demonstration on how to plant spring bulbs. Truth is, I believe the girls were hoping I had chocolate milk and might offer some if they posed for a pic. And WL is always happy to be anywhere, especially in the care of his sisters! BTW, after a short delay, I did get the bulbs planted.
To give you a break from the relentless autumn colors, how about a window display of Christmas trees made from pom poms? I think that’s what these furry looking balls are called.
My roasted shrimp appetizer with garlic butter, onions, and pickled peppers. I love helping PJ celebrate her birthday and usually indulge in such dishes strictly as a way to honor her on this special day! (She also had an appetizer)
The ash trees (I think that’s what they are) downtown make a bold statement in the fall. A nice canopy over an American flag display as we celebrated Veterans Day last week.
A particular maple downtown is one of our favorites and never disappoints. We try to get by and make a few pics every year.
I thought I would give you a short break from orange and add a little gold. Another favorite is the gingko, also called maidenhair tree. We also love the look when the yellow leaves settle in the green grass. With upper 20’s last night, that will likely be soon!
Another awesome color of autumn is blue. There is something about the light this time of year that brings a blueness to the sky that seems different from other seasons. And of course our highly recommended plastic owl stands guard over the patio for the purpose of preventing birds from building nests in unwanted places. And just for the record, don’t waste your money on a fake owl. Birds built a nest on top of the column just beneath the owl and they love to perch on it’s head as well. Really scary owl!
PJ captured some great color but also a neat touch from the past with the very old RR bridge in the background!
Garden lighting brings out some unique color at dusk!
Our look back this week is Santorini, Greece, 2013. Given the opportunity, we would most definitely visit again!
Thanks to Appalachian Media for an aerial of construction of a new divided 4 lane highway nearby. For over 50 years I’ve heard talk of a “coming soon” replacement of the old curvy 2 lane highway that stretches through our part of the county. Finally the last 5 mile section is under construction so I suppose “soon” has arrived. The old highway is dangerous and handles a lot of traffic. Progress is often bittersweet. A highway is needful, but it hurts to see beautiful green pastures peeled back.
Wishing you a pleasant and peaceful week.

As usual, the photos are beautiful. Falls colors are just magnificent, and you caught them in all of their splendor. And also, as usual, the children are beautiful. Lots of love to all.

Amen, thank you Ruthie. Wishing you a wonderful week!

Thank you for sharing autumn colors. I miss that so much living in Florida. Even when some of our trees turn, and it’s usually in December, the colors are not vibrant. I always love your Sunday posts.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you Nancy. We had our coldest temperatures and a heavy frost this morning. Leaves will be falling!
Lisa B. says
Oh my goodness, I love your photos. We have some beautiful trees here, too, in Northeast Tennessee, but having only lived here a few years, I don’t recognize them. I know we have sweet gums, which are vibrant, and some maples and oaks, but I did not know the yellow ones are probably ginkgo and the multicolor are ash. Thank you so much for identifying the trees that are in color in your area. God’s beauty is all around us, isn’t it? Happy Thanksgiving.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much, Lisa. I love seeing the trees change into their autumn colors. Happy week to you!

The trees are beautiful right now and brrrr, it is chilly! I love the photo of your gardening crew, so adorable! Funny stuff about the owl, we used to have one hanging near our boat to keep the birds away and it didn’t work either 😂 I hope you both have a wonderful week!

As your surroundings have always transfixed me.. – Paradiso – with much assistance from your attention and labor. Are there
any little ones more endearing than your three beautiful moppets garden crew? I can imagine their fascination with and enjoyment of that neighborly duo. How well you capture the essence of the colorful closing of this season. The pictures just
dazzle. Glad to see Pam is still celebrating her birthday…quite a dish – Pam and the shrimp….. Sabbath blessings to all.

Thank you, Mary. Enjoy your week!

Good morning, Pam and Butch. What glorious autumn photos. You all are on the same schedule for color as we were in VA. The leaves are mostly gone here and we are to have a snow and rain mix today that will probably finish them. Of course, I have to talk about the beautiful children. Little Wyatt is just dreaming about taking off, he will be something for his big sisters to keep up with. It is wonderful to see the Ash trees thriving. I was told by a gentleman at our WV Botanical Garden that there is a blight of some sort after them. And , oh my, the gingko is magnificent.
Wishing you all a wonderful day and week ahead!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Sandra. I hope you enjoyed the snow and rain mix. It sounds like the perfect day for soup simmering on the stove and a good book to curl up with and a cozy throw!

Another beautiful edition to your Sunday posts Pam and Butch. And the expressions and tousled hair of the grands make me smile. So adorable. The maple trees are magnificent, you are so lucky to be able to gaze at them before they drop all their leaves. Have a Blessed Sunday…we are having our Missionary Conference this week, so a busy time for all.
Hugs Always
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Kari! I know the mission conference will be excellent and eye opening!

I look at the windows of your publication and I only see beauty everywhere: in principle I love autumn … so you pressed the right key so that I love it right away …
But following the reading I find that group of girls and a boy from whom I have stayed for a while seeing the beautiful faces of him and especially what they have grown up !! But there are already a few women and an older boy !!!! very handsome…
Autumn and its color palette … children … a good meal … But what more could you ask for !!!
Just spend a few good days enjoying nature that gives us its best colors.
A hug

Unless you have seen fall foliage in person, you might think that the colors on the trees had been edited. Having lived in New England, I know how truly breathtaking the fall foliage can be, thanks for sharing. You have both posted wonderful photos of your darling grandchildren but I think this one has to be my favorite of all time. A professional couldn’t have done any better.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you for your sweet comments, Karen! Taking photos of my grands is my favorite!

I can’t think of which picture is the most beautiful but of course it’s the grands. Oh to live close to my great grands. The colors here have been magnificent this year haven’t they. Our leaves are all gone because the winds have been terrible. Yesterday was my 80th and my geraniums are still blooming. It’s impossible. The frost hasn’t killed them yet. Signs and wonders the Bible says.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Happy belated birthday sweet friend. I hope your day was wonderful! Thank you for your sweet comments, always!

The prognosticators (whoever they are!) said we would not have a beautiful Fall…wow, were they wrong! Mother Nature has displayed her best finery this year. The supervisors looked like the bulb planting had their full attention, what a genuinely happy group of sweet grands. I’m with Butch on progress; I know it is necessary, but it makes me sad seeing all the trees cut down.
Hope you enjoy our first cool weather of the season!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Roxanne, our fall has been gorgeous! We have now had several consecutive days of frost. I love that we enjoy all four seasons! Enjoy your week~

Oh, the colors have been so extraordinarily special this year! Zach and I took a long mountain drive the other morning on our way to a gig, and two different times, the view literally almost took my breath! I told him if anyone could see what we were seeing and still say there is no God, they are deranged. His handiwork is everywhere I look here in the mountains! Worship rises within me when I see it, and I can’t help but feel a bit closer to Him while gazing on it all. Thank you for sharing your amazing photos and how grateful I am that He has spared all our lives to see another beautiful autumn season! May He continue to bless you all.
