“I will praise the name of God with a song; I will magnify Him with Thanksgiving.”
Psalm 69:30
An arboreal view of a November sunrise in our Appalachian foothills. It is good to have connections to Appalachian Media so we can enjoy such beauty together!
Mix peaceful water, fall color, and late afternoon sunlight and the results can be quite pleasing to the eye!
A herd of 30 or 40 were down the hill and quite some distance away when I started performing my cow call. I am serious. I stood very still and began bellowing like…well I am not sure what it sounded like, but the entire group headed my way, the leaders on the run. When they closed within 20 yards I faced a stare down. I suppose the sound they were hearing and the figure they spotted just didn’t match up. Curiosity would only bring them so close.
The hardwoods with their falling leaves get most of the credit for fall color, so I thought I would pay tribute to our overlooked evergreens. Pines have autumn color and lose needles too. Pine “straw” is quite useful and attractive and I like to place it in areas as a covering and/or mulch but I have not done so this fall. What types of mulch do you use?
A roadside area that is typically mowed on a fairly regular schedule failed to get any late season mowing. This allowed a grove of young sumac time to spring up and then provide some nice autumn color.
Queen EM gets a little feature this week because school pics just happen to be available!
I alluded last week to the fact that leaves aren’t only pretty while on the trees but often offer lasting beauty and interest when they find their final resting place on the ground…
…especially the golden Gingko leaves as they settle on green winter rye!
A windy and fast moving cold front has a way of changing the look of the landscape overnight as “fall” is in the air.
Sometimes the conditions and timing are such that you automatically grab your phone because you must try to capture what has presented itself while opportunity prevails. You just know you gotta do it!
Looking back one year to our delicious and cozy breakfast by the fire at The Swag. PJ reminded me this was last time we traveled. I think we are very ready to get away for a few days but currently have no plans!
Do you ever wonder what animals think when they see themselves in the mirror?
With autumn colors everywhere, including this post, I decided that I had shown enough pics of changing leaves. But then, while on a walk by the lake, this presented itself and I couldn’t pass it up!
A late autumn bloomer that graces our roadsides, the groundsel bush can be showy and a nice addition to the quickly changing landscape! On the down side, the bush has toxic seeds and is toxic to animals.
One of the more unusual skies at dusk last week. We are amazed by all the beauty that surrounds us. It changes day by day and moment by moment!
Wishing everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Such gorgeous photos of your beautiful world there. Who would have thought leaves on the ground would be so beautiful? It looks like you arranged them the way. Lol. Funny about your bellowing story.

Happy Sunday to you! Your color is fabulous. We still have a lot of green and some gold but the trees are getting more and more bare as the days get colder and shorter. All the photos in this lovely post remind me of warmth and beauty. Happy week to you all.

Thank you Jeanie. Happy week to you and Rick!

So beautiful. I have enjoyed fall through your lens! I noticed while driving yesterday all the leaves on the Gingko trees have fallen and look like a pile of gold. W had rain on Friday and it most definitely took many leaves that remained off. Queen EM is a beautiful child! Have a wonderful week of Thanksgiving, Pam and Butch.

Lovely post. Each picture has its own beauty. I especially like the Ginko tree pics and the sky at dusk. I enjoy your commentary very much, Butch.
EM is so much like her Mom. Sweet expression in her school picture.

Your great photos of the fallen leaves create a mosaic blanketing the earth… the wonders of nature you capture are so impressive. Beloved EM continues to grow in grace and beauty . The caption under the herd having heard and then seen
the figure before them….”What the H ???” (apologies – could not resist)

Good morning, Pam and Butch. The winners of this week’s contest are: Beautiful Ella Mae takes 1st place, the 2nd place is the gorgeous tree at the lake, the 3rd is the Gingko tree, and last but not least is the Sunset.
Butch, we are so jealous of your pine mulch. We had it in abundance in VA and that is not the case here. It does make a beautiful mulch and adds quite a lot to the soil. Have a wonderful day and and Thanksgiving week!

Thank you Sandra. We have had a beautiful fall season that is still hanging on!

Ok Butch. I’m sitting here trying my absolute best to imagine your cow call. Is this something you do often or was this something that came on all of a sudden? Of course I’m Laughing. The cows kind of look perplexed.
What a stunner your Queen EM has become. I know you are so proud of her. But watch out, the red headed princess is going to be a looker too.
I never get tired of the trees in color. I love trees in all seasons. What would we do without them. Die most likely as they provide us with oxygen. We have so few here not like you there in the South.
Hope your Thanksgiving is full of joy and blessings.

Alice, Butch and I had a really good laugh about the cow call. You have a wonderful sense of humor. We have had a beautiful fall and it is still hanging on. Wishing you a blessed Thanksgiving dear one!
