Happy Wednesday everyone. We wanted to briefly take time to share with you about a wedding we attended some time ago…ours. That event was the sweet beginning of our everyday living together. 

We plan to celebrate our 49th Anniversary today in a simple but enjoyable way by dining at our favorite restaurant. Another year has flown by and has quickly become the past. So very thankful for these remarkable years!

If “what a difference a day makes” (and it surely does), then what about 365 of them? Whew!

“Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out, “Hallelujah! This from the year of our 40th Anniversary; we had to climb over a fence to get to this pasture. We’re requiring all pics these days be made on the home side of the fence!

Whether young, old, or in between, a year will bring about changes…planned changes and surprises.

A special place on the planet is seen behind us, the Sea of Galilee. We treasure the opportunities we’ve had to visit so many wonderful, historic, and beautiful spots both in the U.S. and around the world.

No year is without difficulty, but some sweet changes did come our way over the past 12 months. Most precious was the birth of our 3rd grandchild and first boy, Wyatt Lee, born in April!

Enjoying one of our favorite getaways in North Carolina. We’d love to visit in February, but they are only open from April through Thanksgiving.

The past year also brought us closer together as a family…literally! Another sweet change as our son, daughter-in-love, and the little ones completed their house and now live a golf cart ride away-down on the farm as we sometimes say. Many parents and grandparents live a significant distance from their loved ones and do not have the opportunities to see each other often or spend a lot of time together.

This looks like a Sunday afternoon where the smiles make it appear we’re in no hurry, but the truth is…lunch is ready and we are wanting to get to the table!

Another big change as the 49th year progressed was retirement. And quite honestly, we are still adjusting to the new routine, or lack thereof!

From the deck of a cruise ship, I do believe these smiles indicate that this is a fantastic trip, with memories being made exploring new places!

Not sure about us but the Montana Bitterroot scenery is magnificent! 

You may have seen this in the past. This was the evening of February 23, 1973, leaving for the honeymoon. Let’s call this the “Before”…


…and this very recent photo shall be called the “After”, after 49 blessed years. The differences are so slight! 

The fiftieth or Golden Anniversary has always been viewed as a celebrated milestone to reach. As we start a new year headed in that direction, it is our hope and prayer that we are able to share a blog post with you on 2-23-23. But we truly are not promised another minute and therefore will not presume upon the future except to know that God is already there and totally in charge. 

Thanks for taking your very valuable time and indulging pics of us! Hoping you know it isn’t really about anything we deserve or have done, but God’s Grace and Mercy that we wish to celebrate!

And just an added note: We have received notes and even Anniversary cards from many of our readers. This has meant so much to us and is thoughtful beyond measure.

  40. I’m visiting from Imparting Grace. Happy anniversary! We’re just a little ways behind you–we celebrated 42 years in December. We’re talking about retirement–haven’t decided on exactly when yet, but we’re discussing options and such. All of our kids and only grandchild live nearby except one. It’s such a blessing to have them close.

  44. Awe, such a sweet and thoughtful post. We celebrated #50 last June and are now approaching #51. We’ve seen lots of joy, lots of sadness but the good Lord has been with us every step of the way. Always such a joy to stop by and read your lovely posts. Blessings abundant!

I pray God will bless you with many, many more happy anniversaries and am looking forward to that 2-23-23 post and many more, if it is God’s will. Life surely is a vapor. When we hear “49 years” it sounds like such a long, long time, but I imagine it seems very brief to the two of you. Thank you for sharing your beautiful everyday living with us here. You two are such a blessing to us all!
