“Let the heavens praise your wonders, O Lord, your faithfulness in the assembly of the holy ones! For who in the skies can be compared to the Lord? Who among the heavenly beings is like the Lord,”
Psalm 89:5-6
We concluded our week with what will likely be our only snow event for the winter of ’21-’22. The picnic table in the foreground accumulated about 1/2 inch but it was mostly a dusting. It’s kinda pretty because we don’t see it often, however January would’ve seemed more appropriate. I know, some of you are finding it laughable that I called this a “snow event”!
A lot of muddy water from a couple of rain events last week but still a nice reflection. Today I have chosen to highlight what’s blooming in early March around northeast Alabama. The main reason… yesterday was possibly our coldest day of the winter season, and with temps in the teens this morning, the colors we are enjoying may disappear for a few days. March is an unstable month with a lot of extremes!
Our new daffodils have looked great so far. How they fare after a hard freeze remains to be seen!
Yesterday!!!
I discovered a local utility pole completely surrounded and overtaken by Carolina jessamine (or jasmine if you prefer). I was glad but surprised that the utility company allowed the plant to climb near the top of the pole. It did not appear to be creating any danger or harm and was nice standing next to the red, white, and blue!
These buds appear to be wrapped in their fleece jackets so maybe they will survive the sudden cold snap!
Our little Japanese Magnolia, having survived yearly punishment from the local deer, is now gracing us with a few beautiful blooms!
Emma K has chosen a career. With money received for Valentine’s and other occasions, she has equipped herself to enter into the profession full steam ahead. PJ and I both had an exam last week. I think we are fine but honestly, parts of the exam were a bit painful!
We had forgotten about this little patch of grape hyacinths (muscari) until our son spotted them the other day. They have survived a year of clearing, excavating, clean-up, and construction to make a nice late winter appearance. Thanks to Appalachian Media for the pic and the reminder of how resilient these plants are!
White is a dominant color across the landscape and country-side where we live in late winter and early spring. Bradford (Callery) pear were extremely popular for years and widely planted. Now that they have gone rogue and also spread easily on their own, they seem to be everywhere! A lot of negativity surrounds the plant these days, but it would be hard to argue that the blooms aren’t very pretty.
A sea of white where a group of planted trees line a drive. I did not spot thorns on these so maybe this is a group of the “good guys”.
I discovered a Carolina cherry laurel that I had never noticed before. The white blooms gave it away so I had to investigate. The black fruit from last fall was abundant on the entire tree. Birds like this fruit and I was amazed that hundreds of berries remained!
A few azaleas are blooming but it is really early for them here in north Alabama. As nothing else nearby was displaying such a burst of color, this was a standout.
Redbuds can be found scattered in the woods around home. One of the first to bloom every year, they are easily spotted because other trees are still mostly bare and do not yet block the view!
OK…this looks weird so I will explain. I walked up on a group of turkeys and we startled each other. Some ran off but others flew. Turkeys are big birds that spend most of their time on the ground and aren’t crazy about flying. A lot of people think they are not good flyers but this is not true. They can fly quite well and after I saw this pic, I would say they can also maneuver very well. I was just snapping photos and was shocked to see this bird making a turn completely on it’s side!
We had quite a few comments and questions about the “Mary Poppins” umbrella in last weeks post. I am aware that most people can use any number of electronic means to alter a pic, but not me. I prefer the old ways. Just don’t show the top of the pergola and use transparent fishing line that blends perfectly if the angle of the pic has the line backdropped by the sky/clouds. If you look closely at the pic on the right, the line that suspends the umbrella is visible where it’s backdropped by the green woods.

A busy late afternoon sky. These sunsets will now be occurring an hour later starting today! You did move your clock ahead I hope.
What a difference a day can make. We hope and pray your week is filled with good days. It will officially be the first day of spring when we see you next Sunday!

It was so crazy to wake up to snow yesterday after such a beautiful and warm Friday! I certainly hope we don’t loose any of the spring blooming plants, it seems like everyday more and more things are displaying flowers as you’ve shown in all your photos. I had no idea turkeys could fly, that is quite a picture! Thanks for clearing up the umbrella mystery, that is so clever! Have a lovely Sunday Pam & Butch~

Thank you, Jenna. Hopefully we return to more spring-like weather!

We woke this morning to 32 degrees which is keeping me inside this morning. As I look at your photos I’m reminded how grateful I am for the gifts of spring, a season of rebirth.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Yes, cold here this morning. Happy Sunday!

Nurse EK would be welcome at my house. She is so precious and might even follow through into adulthood. It’s amazing so much of Spring has arrived in Alabama and so little or none here. I did see the tips of the tulips has emerged from our hard as cement earth. Glad you explained the turkey in flight photo because I couldn’t guess what it was. Yes they do fly and roost high up in the trees on our farm in SD. I planted muscari between the boxwoods in our back garden. They have spread and in bloom there is a sea of purple.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Alice. I can imagine the sea of muscari and how beautiful it must be. Happy Sunday!
Nancy says
Well the mystery is solved! Fishing line and a pergola overhead! 😊
Is it Nurse EK? Or Doctor EK? Whatever she chooses… she will be great at it.
Snow? Oh my? However… we too have had crazy weather. Colder then usual and longer winter then usual here in the Valley of the Sun… aka… Phoenix, AZ.
Hope the cold temps did not damage anything.
Thank you for the Sunday Morning Stroll… loved seeing all the blooms and that Turkey!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
EK claims to be a doctor 😉 Let’s just say her bedside manner needs a little work. Have a wonderful week!
Nancy says
Oh you gave me my morning giggle!

Love your little medical professional. I hope everything survives for all of you that are not use to the snow. Our Spring will not start until April where things will even try to pop up. Love the Mary Poppins umbrella and what a great idea to use the fishing line. Tooo Cute!!! Happy Sunday Pam. Have a great new week. xoxo
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much, Kris. Happy Sunday to you!

As you know Pam, I look forward to Butch’s Sunday Musings and photos. Love the flower photos and the snow pics.
On our ranch in New Mexico, we had domestic and wild turkeys and yes they can fly but are a bit lazy and prefer not to. LOL However, another large fowl that loves to fly is the Peacock. We also raised them on our ranch and they would often roost on the top of our house!!! I miss all our animals…in addition to horses and cattle, and hogs, we raised chickens, Guinea fowl, Call Ducks, Pekin Ducks, Toulouse Geese!
Have a great and Blessed day my friends.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Kari. Wow, you really had a ranch with lots of animals! Happy Sunday!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Kari, Butch was asking where was your ranch in NM?

I love the idea of “snow event” — so long as it isn’t near me! I’ve had enough. That jasmine is more my style. Love all the wonderful photos this week. Enjoy the coming days!

Have a wonderful week, Jeanie!

It is uncanny how Butch aligns the Scripture so well with the photo tour each week. Sorry about the pain – it takes practice for a budding nurse/doctor to give an unpainful needle. Love EK’s look of assurance ..or is that satisfaction? In the teens amid the snows here, as well, and a good gusty March wind to complete the month’s promise. Surprise ! – turkeys can fly – who would have thunk it given their size and plodding steps. Thank you for the beautiful sunsets …nature does its thing no matter what the clock says….. A blessed week and continued prayer for the courageous Ukraine….
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Hello Mary. We had those gusty winds that blew over my daffodils. They are on the ground but still have some pretty blooms. Wishing you a blessed week and prayers for Ukraine!

Love your beuatiful blooms – grape hyacinths and daffodils are so wonderful!

Love all the March blooms in your region! I had daffs and found a surprise lungwort crop beneath my Hinoki tree on Friday, only to have 6″ of snow and frigid temps bury it on Saturday! A total collision of seasons, and I still can’t tell if the blooms and buds will be all right. Magnolia tulips in the neighborhood may suffer. I cleared out many tufts of what I think were muscari in my beds – just randomly sprouting but no buds (probably due to the overcrowding which started getting thinned last fall in our overhaul).
Love little Emma K’s investment. It was a smart one, because we ain’t gettin’ any younger! I hope y’all have a good week. Thanks for ‘splainin’ the umbrella, Butch. 😉
Pam @ Everyday Living says
It will be exciting to see what your gardens will be sprouting. I know you have plans to add and it will be beautiful. Have a wonderful week, Rita!

Emma, the buds in their “fleece” coats, the trick of the umbrella (very clever!), the turkey, and the promising colors of Spring….all followed by a beautiful passage from Psalms…soothing to the eyes and the soul! Thank you for lifting my spirit with the beautiful signs of hope and love! Emma is a doll, btw!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you sweet friend. Wishing you a joy-filled week! 🙏🏻🌺💚🎶🌸

Happy Sunday, Butch and Pam! How exciting that spring is not far away! I loved seeing all the beautiful spring blooms you shared. I’m looking forward to seeing some in my neck of the woods soon. March weather is unpredictable here as well. We had several inches of snow Friday, but we have warmed up to almost 70 today. Miss Emma K looks precious! Wishing you both a wonderful and blessed week ahead!
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Happy Monday, my friend! Hopefully you will begin to see spring blooms soon. Wishing you a blessed week!

Spring is on the way with all those early blooming flowers. Your photo of the turkey in flight is amazing. I have seen them fly around here (they roost overnight in trees), but never one doing a banked turn like that.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Carole. Hopefully, this morning is our last below freezing temps. Happy Monday!

Good morning (a day late!), Pam and Butch! What crazy, crazy weather we are having! We didn’t get your snow, but it was 22 Sunday morning. I bet the kids were thrilled with your snow. Everything was starting to bloom and green up here, and my reaction was noooooo! The Princess Doctor sounds like a great title for a Hallmark movie! A bit of news here…I just got scheduled for another spinal fusion on April 4, right at the start of gardening season. Prayers appreciated.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Oh my, Roxanne. I am adding you to my prayer journal. I wasn’t aware that was going to be
necessary?
Roxanne Bernard says
Pam, my legs have been numb and burning since about Christmas, so scared I’ll misstep and fall. I had a myelogram last week and the dye wouldn’t even go through my spinal canal. My neurosurgeon said he literally doesn’t understand how I’m walking. The good news is I’m not in pain.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Roxanne, I am so sorry. I am glad you are not suffering pain. Praying for you, dear one! Please keep me updated.
Heritage Hall says
Prayers here, as well, Roxanne…

Thank you so very much.

Love all the flower pics–a precursor to what we’ll enjoy here in Zone 6 within a few weeks. Thank you, Pam! Our little clutch of crocus have bloomed, the daffodils have sent up their rich green shoots. Looking forward to trying pansies in our deck planter–perhaps mid-April?–to enjoy some color before the traditional planting date of May 15.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Enjoy those first signs of spring, Nancy. Our traditional planting time is April 15. We usually wait a few days after the date. Happy Spring!

Love all the pics and I’m so glad the mystery of Mary Poppin’s umbrella has been solved! Very clever indeed. Emma K is precious – I’m sure that bedside manner will come with time lol. I did have a wee chuckle about the snow event, but oh my goodness – those poor daffodils. I hope they come back. Have a lovely week you two!

Thanks so much, Kim. Wishing you a lovely week!

Pam and Butch, What a lovely post. I do hope your little tulip magnolia tree does well! They are so pretty but the change in weather is hard on all of the plants. Your sweet EK looks ready to work in the medical field! She’s a little doll. We’re busy trying to correct the damages the last ice storm caused. It was rough on this southern gal! Lol We’re hoping spring is here to stay! Always enjoy your posts! Clara ❤️

Hello Pam and Butch. Forgive me for being so late to comment. I am having cataract surgery Thursday so have been busy doing test for that. Anyway, I do love all your photos and it is hard to believe your spring is so far along. That Jasmine is gorgeous and the fragrance must be marvelous. I do love precious Emma and her choice of careers. She would be a welcomed treat for anyone who was under her care. She has the cutest grin.
Wishing you happy spring days!

Thanks so much. Take care after your surgery!
