“Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.”
Psalm 90:14
Happy first day of spring! It is “official” (as of 10:33 AM CDT) although for some of you… it does not feel like spring!
These 3 apparently think it is already summer or else PJ and I need to get to the shoe store? WL only wants to be free to pull daffodils but he appears to be in custody!
These harmless looking bundles of green will soon become spring terror for all those who have seasonal allergies. Pollen and more pollen as everything around will be coated in green dust. Blame it on the guys, as these male cones or catkins only appear in the spring.
I made some aerial shots of nearby Weiss Lake last Sunday as I took a short trek up on Lookout mountain. A lot of wonderful farm country lies just beyond the lake! Planting time isn’t far away. Hoping the farmers can afford fuel and fertilizer!
A nice setting for a church. I am sure the folks that attend realize it, but this view really highlights the location.
Back in the day we did a lot of skiing on this part of the lake. PJ has retired, both from skiing and as an interior decorator/designer, but I remember when she had clients here. I thought they had some of the best views on the water, especially at sunset.
The delicate bluets start showing up in the lawn this time of year. These azure bluets have a distinct yellow center. There are several varieties in our yard, like tiny bluets, which live up to their name…they are very small flowers!
Believe me, this taste as good as it looks…shrimp and crawfish risotto with sugar snaps! PJ shared several bites with me after I finished my chicken scaloppine!
Redbuds are blooming and I wish we had one in our yard. As legumes they have bean pods. I found some low hanging pods on a tree by the lake and this one appeared to have a remaining seed. I left it but I wonder if I could have grown a tree from this bean?
This is a pine but you’d not know that without looking quite a few feet up at the top of the tree. Maybe English Ivy grows extremely fast but regardless, I think this Ivy has been here for a while!
I saw a large yellow swallowtail butterfly on one of our warmer days last week. I tried to get a pic since we usually don’t see them this early in the season but it stayed on the move…a bit harder to find an abundance of nectar I imagine. But, after seeing that butterfly, and finding these colorful beauties at a local shop, I decided that I would surprise Pam and give her a springtime thrill. I brought these home and before she arrived, I placed them in what I knew was the most awesome and perfect display location on the front of the Sunshine Cottage. This pic is where they now hang on my privacy fence that is by our garage. You may come to your own assumptions and conclusions!
Dogwoods, spring, and Easter just seem like they all belong in the same sentence! I had never closely examined dogwood blooms in their early stages until yesterday. They always grab our attention when those radiant white blooms pop wide open, but no need to wait another week when we can begin to enjoy them now!
OK…a break from all things spring. This was last Sunday afternoon on the mountain. Winter has been reluctant to give it up. I have somewhat kept up with the Alaskan Iditarod this past week and watching that makes me ashamed to display this as a winter scene!
Hiking along, I discovered what appeared to be a tree supporting a huge boulder, with the help of a little guy with a hat on. Do you see him?
When I turned a corner and looked straight up I was a bit unnerved. I suppose this outcropping has been here for possibly hundreds of years but it looks as if nothing is supporting it!
Please use your imagination once more and tell me if you see what I see…the rock on the right is a snapping turtle. Alright, I know it’s a stretch, but that’s exactly what came to mind when I stumbled across these formations.
Blessed to have witnessed another beautiful closing of the day. Quite a gift!
Have a wonderful first week of spring!

Yes, it took me a minute, but I saw the snapping turtle.😀 I have never seen a Dogwood before full bloom either. You rarely see Dogwood in my neck of the woods. Thanks for another great walk in your area.

I didn’t see the little guy with a hat on, saw the snapping turtle but my favorite picture is of the three grands holding Wyatt back from picking daffodils. I have always thrilled at the budding trees and flowers of Spring. Hope springs eternal. So PJ didn’t approve of the fake butterflies on the Sunshine cottage? Butch it’s the thought that counts.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thank you, Alice. The grands are our favorite photo, also. Hope you start seeing signs of spring soon in Colorado!

Pam and Butch, The grands are so cute. I like the butterflies on the fence. The colors are so festive. What a nice surprise. I saw both the man and the snapping turtle. That rock formation is a bit scary knowing what is holding it up! Spring in bloom is such a wonderful sight. Love the lake shots too. Enjoy this beautiful day! Clara❤️

Thank you sweet Clara. Wishing you a beautiful first day of spring!

A delightful Sunday stroll with you. Yes, I believe Wyatt is being held hostage so he doesn’t pick the daffodils. What a precious photo. Your butterflies look good on your fence. Didn’t have a lot of trouble concluding how this conversation went because there have been similar conversations at this house. A wonderful gesture Butch and a great place for the butterflies. How fortunate to have husbands who share in our joys.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
I am glad you understand the butterfly story. Thank you dear one!

I just love to read your blog. First of all, the photo of your grandbabies is absolutely adorable. I didn’t see the little guy with the hat on either. But I did see what you meant about the snapping turtle. When I saw the photo of the tree with the English Ivy growing on it, I cringed. We live next to a small piece of land that belongs to the state. I couldn’t believe the number of trees with ivy growing up them. So I started to research and found that this ivy will kill the tree and it will wreak havoc with any native plant, as it is extremely harmful and non-native. I couldn’t stand it so I begged my husband to do something. The best we could do is cut the vines at the base of the tree as close to the ground as possible. If it starts to come back, we cut back the shoots. Eventually without enough sunlight, the vines will die. How long that takes, I don’t know; but I do know that I like the trees so much better than the invasive vines. Lo and behold, the vines that my husband cut have died. Some have dried up enough that we can pull them down from the bottom. Several will fall off. We did the same thing in a small area that is full of non-native bushes and all of a sudden we spotted a beautiful tree in the middle. We made sure to cut enough of the brush to enable the tree to get more sunlight. I am pretty sure it is a native tree, but the name escapes me now.
Your photos are stunning. God has blessed us so much more than we deserve – our world truly is beautiful. I hope and pray it remains so for our grandchildren and their children and generations forevermore.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Lisa, thank you so much for your kind comments. Thank you for sharing the info and experience with the ivy. Fortunately we have no ivy at our place. Obviously, it is very invasive.
God’s creation is truly amazing! Wishing you a wonderful week!

Happy Spring! What a blue, blustery day to usher in the day here! The grands look ready with their bare toes, so adorable. I’ve had those “butterfly moments” too. 😉. As always, I really enjoy Butch’s walks and commentary…I always learn something new.

Thank you, Roxanne. He really thought the butterflies would stay on the cottage.

Happy Spring. I can’t believe how fast the grandchildren are growing…especially Wyatt. It’s nice that it has warmed up enough for them to go shoeless in the grass.

Good evening, Butch and Pam. As always lovely photos. Goodness, precious Ella Mae certainly has her hands full. Wyatt is a big boy, looks so happy and I can tell he is an explorer. You can actually see the muscles in Ella’s arm as she is trying to support him. Oh, what fun!
I immediately saw the snapping turtle, I love rocks and boulders. I have always wished they could speak.
Wishing all of you a beautiful spring and many blessings.
Pam @ Everyday Living says
Thanks so much, Wyatt is big boy that smiles all the time. The rock village is one of the top ten rock climbing places in the country. It is about 9 miles from our house. Blessings~
